Hey Max! Really enjoyed watching this video! Cant wait for a year progression vid. from collection til now. I’ve just collected a beech tree myself and wonder its possible way of develop. Cheers! xx
Looks like a Fagus aka Beech to me. But I read in your comments you dug it in France. It's useful to use botanical names rather than common names to avoid confusion. European Hornbeam is Carpinus betulus.
I also think it's Beech (Fagus). I just collected one yesterday from the Carpathian mountains. Even the fact that the dead leafs are still attached is an indication that it's beech. Next time you for in that woods, look for specific beech seeds and pods on the forest floor. Then you'll be sure :)
MaxInLA ah, got it. I’ve been walking in a lot of local forests since covid has begun and hadn’t realized how endemic the beeches are where I live, so they’ve been on my mind I guess. Cheers man, keep us updated on this beauty!
Nice video, question, is it ok to completely cut oak, or birch back say to about 3 inchs from the ground, so nothing is left at all, I have some oak & birch in the ground, I want to cut back nearly to the ground.
Where are you from? Tell me in the comments ;)

Thanks for the feedback. Beech trees have darker and shinier leaves which is not the case here. I’ll add the scientific name in the description 👍🏼
@@maxinla2501 Your yamadori is a Beech. It is absolutely clear. It has a typical bark and leaves too. Hornbeam looks differently. I am sure!

waw .. its amazing bonsai material ..
Thank you 😄
Great work....👌👌👌🌳
Thank you ! :D
Max, Hows the tree doing?
For now the buds have swollen a bit, I think it will start to leaf out in the next three weeks
the collecting must be done in early spring or someting can be done in fall?
In spring is much preferred
@@maximilianschneider3809 Autumn is best for beech.
Are you sure that's not a beech? Looks beechy...where did you dig this bad boy up?
Beech trees have shiny leaves but this one doesn’t, but yeah those are very similar trees. I dug this one from the forests in the south of Versailles.

Boston Bonsai Idiot Thank you! Will do :) 👍🏼
When in march did you collect the tree, early, middle or late march?
yes

It's risky but possible if you keep moisture high and lots of sunlight
@@joshbrz8902 thanks
Did the tree make it?
Thats a Beech (Fagus Sylvatica) not a Hornbeam (Carpinus Betulus)
When I look on the web, the leaves match the Carpinus Betulus and not the Fagus Sylvatica which has dark green, flat and shiny leaves. 🤔
It’s a fagus grandiflora
Woww
Max et la botanax 👌
Mercax Rungax! 😜
Max, if you take one, you must leave one. Please be responsible for the future generations to come.
Squirrels do a lot of planting. It'll be fine.
So you stole it?
Twente ;)
Stoer :D
