- It is time to work on this 13 year ilad yamadori pine that has been growing in my garden, preparation for digging it out of the ground next March! It looks like nemawashi is doing what it is supposed to be doing, so life is good!

Beautiful pine tree. The cracked bark gives the tree a dignified appearance.

I totally appreciate you finding 13 years as a relatively short amount of time! Ha ha ha! Honestly, I find that endemic species tend to grow better, easier and faster than introduced species, so this trunk in 13 years is kinda normal and I love it! Thank you James!

Good luck on your tree Haris! I suggest pure pumice for the first 2 to 3 years and daily listing on the foliage for the first month after digging. Cheers!

My friend thank you very much for sharing this very interesting video,i very like this beautiful and strong pine and i appreciated your job on the roots. You were right to put pine bark around the roots because,in addiction to protecting them from the heat,it promotes the development of mychorrizae! Have nice time 👍👍👍😉

Yes, sylvestris is a candidate, though I think that the mature bark of sylvestris does not match the black bark of brutia. So, black pine is a better candidate. Well see in 2 years! Thank you!

When is the best months to work with pines?
All year! Depends what the work is. Removing trunks and branches, early June or early November. Roots, very early spring or early autumn. If you have cool summers, June is great for roots as well. Wiring in late September to mid spring. Cheers!

Yes John. If I was living in a place with mild summers (like Sweden, Norway or the west coast of Canada and maybe even washistate etc) I would definitely do lots of pine repottings in June. New, very effective foliage is deployed so the tree is producing energy at the best rate possible. That means that roots heal aand regrow at the best rate possible. The only problem is that if you get hit with an extreme heatwave a week or two after the repot, you might even lose the tree. There is another big advantage of June. In early spring, you have no idea if the tree you are repotting is strong and healthy, if theresybeen winter damage or some infection on the root system. But in June, you definitely know which tree strong and healthy and which is not. So you repot the ones that rea definitely healthy (providing you have a mild summer). Since I do have relatively strong and dry heatwaves, I prefer September and October best, espeufir 5 needle species which are relatively weak. So that I know that I have cooler months ahead of me and a good effective a few months old foliage that has not seen winter yet. Cheers!
