I have followed your cooking for a few months and I just want to tell you, my Puerto Rican husband loves me more because I've followed your cooking recipes! The accupulia was like heaven! The sofrito was on point and now a staple in our home and I'm going to cook these pasteles tomorrow. Truly appreciative of your videos and recipes and breaking it down. My husband's belly really does love me more because of these videos. Thank you!
Just wanted to share that you can now buy grated frozen yuca. I found it at my local supermarket. Also, I use cheesecloth (I bought mine at Walmart in the sewing section) to wring out the water from the yuca. Just place the cheesecloth inside a colander and let the water drain out of the yuca. This is just a suggestion - it works for me. Thanks!
+Hilda Zorrilla How are you Hilda . Thank you for the suggestions. I really appreciate it. I enjoy doing it old school though. I love you for following!
I am well, Thank You! Happy Thanksgiving! After the post I ended up making pasteles myself the old fashion way! LOL - my right arm is still a little sore from all the grading. Take care...
My God, you have such amazing patience! That is so labor intensive and you did it all with a smile.! Looks delicious! I love your calm and relaxing way of teaching. You're amazing!
Omg this brought memories of when I was little and used to make these with my grandmom, good old times
Love Pasteles De Yuca ..Thank You For Sharing ..

At checkout input code : FREAKIN and save 30 dollars as well as free shipping
We love you for following. Check out our FB facebook.com/thefreakinricanrestaurant
+The Freakin Rican Restaurant There is a cheaper alternative to the Grandma Ann's grater which would run @ $280 with additional grating and french fry discs at QVC made by the Kitchen Aid company 13 cup Food Processor. Savings $90. Isn"t the Yucca core fiberous Derrek? I didn't notice if you had removed the cores in the presentation. I like your Sofrito and Meat for pasteles recipes and will give them a shot this weekend but not as much in quantity. Perhaps half the amounts you suggest. Question for you what was your yield total for your Pasteles de Guineo Video? Maybe 100..more, less?
The Freakin Rican Restaurant I really enjoy your videos, very informative and easy to follow if you're new to PR cooking. Thanks for the hookup on this machine.. I have had my eye on it for a cpl of years but thought it too pricey for me. Wth your promotional codes and 6 months to pay with PayPal credit I was able to get one-my Christmas gift to myself 👍😂. Thanks again . I'll be making pasteles for no he Buena!
This is a great grater although expensive but I think worth it. I wish it was around when I was younger and healthier. I had a stroke and don't make Pastelles anymore and have no room for it in my home. But for those that need a great grater this is great.
Just made this tonight. I made mine with Steak chunks and pimento stuffed olives. So delish.
This was posted right on my bday and yuca pasteles happen to be one of my favorite foods from home. What a coincidence. I'm sorry if I'm sounding a bit dumb here.

Is there a difference in recipe between empanada de yuca and pastele de yuca other than one is baked and the other boiled?

+Kelly Orama For sure, April and May is when we start doing festivals. So looking forward to it and seeing all our customers. I appreciate you following us. Thank You. I love you for following us!
I love the yucca pasteles, I'll eat the regular ones too but yucca pasteles are the bomb, another thing is I don't squeeze all the milk out of the yucca I've seen videos where they remove the milk out of the yucca just to add a can of carnation milk hum I think that defeats the purpose anyway to each there own,be blessed everyone and enjoy your pasteles. Oh one more thing don't just make them for the holidays .
The starch in the yucca milk will make the pastele gummy and hard after boiling.
After seeing this, I appreciate it a lot more when my grandma makes it
you realize just how much she loves you!
Hola gracias por el video. Una pregunta, tengo q usar la leche? Que pasa si no la uso?
You dont have to . just make sure then that its not completely dry . So dont drain out all the juice. you know. I always use alil milk. Thank you so much for commenting. Follow us at

I just love all your videos, wish i could eat your food. I have never eaten Yuca before as I am from Hawaii. I was reading about it and noticed you tasted the Yuca. It says it is very dangerous to eat the Yuca raw . Not sure if there are different varieties, just wanted you to know . Aloha
looks so good...pasteles are very popular to make in Hawaii, but we use cooking banana and taro :)
No sound 😞
Thank you!
Where can I get a machine like that to grate my yuca ....?????
Hey, how are you doing? Just subscribed to your video. I want to make this for my wife on her birthday and I do have a couple of Q's. one, how long do you boil the pasteles for? Sorry, couldn't hear how long. And two, what's a good substitute for achieve oil because where I live, can't find the achiote seeds. i was thinking sazon with achiote.
How are you . I usually boil them for 20 - 30 minutes once water has boiled.. And yes you can use sazon.. Thank you for watching. Follow us on our social media platforms. facebook.com/thefreakinricanrestaurant or instagram.com/thefreakinricanrestaurant and of Course visit our Website

+clarity023 How are you? Perhaps you can. Ive never done it. Perhaps if you cut the yuca up in small pieces you probably could. Let me know.

Oh wow, that's cool. lol
+Carmen Nieves I love Yuca pasteles. They are so good.
Why do you add milk?
I use coconut milk
Did you know that sofrito should be frozen every time u use it because it loses it flavor and potency. At the same time after a few days it becomes fermented.
+Carmen Nieves How are you , actually the oil preserves it. I usually keep one jar in the fridge and one in the freezer. Thank you for following us. Wow my moms name is Carmen Nieves..lol
Carmen Nieves on point u got that right! !
Make it easy thx🤘🏾
Chico said in Spanish y English. You r bilingual n my husband always mira tu recete el un fan tuyo . pero el sabe mas español. Te lo agradesco
Remember we r boricua .
LA YUCA NO SE ESPRIME, LA MASA DESPUES QUEDA SECA Y EL PASTEL DURO!
No not at all. You add some milk.. But you dont squeeze it completely dry. Thank you Follow us on our social media platforms. facebook.com/thefreakinricanrestaurant or instagram.com/thefreakinricanrestaurant and of Course visit our Website

I cook my meat the same way I don’t put water, just cover it and let it cook in it’s own juice.
There's no volume!!!
Morning. Prayerr
Guayadora de vegetales
Not everyone uses milk in their masa. What's the purpose for the milk? I don't get it. Also, the flavor comes from the meat filling as opposed to the masa.
makes it soft, you want to use 1 can. i havent watched the whole thing but i think he uses 2, that may be too much
the meat have a lot of salt
+Karen Vargas You can always take what you want from any recipe and make it your own. The video is to show you how to do it . For those that don't know. So hold back on the salt..
