Hello my friends🙂 I am building this small cabin so that I can stay on my off grid property where I'm building the main log cabin from big round logs. I'll only be in this small cabin temporarily until I get the main log cabin done. My main goal for this cabin is that I want it to be super cheap and super quick to build. I build this cabin as an alternative to a hot tent so I didn't want to spend a lot of money and time on this cabin. I have a big main log cabin for that :D That's why I used fresh boards for the walls, which are much cheaper than dry boards. I also saved on parts such as the sink from a rotten rv camper, or the homemade 12v batery pack, the faucet is also second-hand, it doesn't seal well and water drips into the sink, but only when there is pressure in. As I don't have constant pressure in it, it's not a problem for me. I got the roof tiles and two large tanks for free, and I already own the cast iron stove. So I was able to build this cabin very very cheaply. Total spend is roughly 350 Euros (378 USD). Thank you all for the positive comments. I appreciate it very much. I was just thinking that if he wants to, he can use the temporary cabin for a tool shed once his cabin is built. Or even a guest house for those who just start to rub you the wrong way!
I've seen many videos like this. You're one of the very, very few builders who make the effort of protecting the bottom of your cabin from rot. Well done!
It is refreshing to see a young person who carefully plans things out, give attention to detail, does meticulous job, & isn't afraid of hard work. You are doing a great job!
It cost more than 400, more than 4000 or even 40000. Tools, logistics, wood, wares (piping etc.), and lets not forget the most expensive: the owned land. You couldn't even build this in your own backyard for 400.
This young man built a mini cabin while building his main cabin. Now that's what you call hard work & dedication. Very inspiring. I love log cabins so I'm looking forward to seeing it when it's all done.✨
I am 61 years old, and a lady, and I love watching you build this tiny cabin! I am really enjoying watching you build each thing, and watching each detail. YOU are very skilled and I really admire what you are doing. I wish I was not disbled and in a hospital bed. How I dream to be in a tiny house in the woods. I cannot think of how to accommodate a hospital bed! Man it is just so cool! I am thinking of trying to have a tiny house built to put in my Dad's backyard of his house. My Dad is open to it. I would have to have electricity though. I am thinking about it. Love your video. Thanks so much for posting. Just so happy for young people who can do this, live off grid and live in nature. Proud of you! Good luck to you!
Thank you, I really appreciate it. I'm sorry you're in a hospital bed. I hope you get well soon! Thanks again for the very nice comment. God bless you.
I agree with all your sentiments. So sorry about your situation. I watch stuff like this now and wish I had learned carpentry when I was young. It's so useful for so many things! At least we get to watch him do it! ❤
I love the sound of the hand saw. Zzzzzith, Zzzzzith. Not that loud power saw. Dad used the hand saw and other tools. If he used a power saw it was borrowed. He never owned one until Mom bought him one but even the hand brace was used for drilling holes. 73
I’m from the Philippines, and I’m planning to purchase a 200 sqm piece of land on an island next year. Ideally, I’d love for it to be in a spot that’s midway between a highland area with an ocean view and close enough to walk to the beach. I dream of it being surrounded by rainforest or jungle, where I can hear the sounds of nature, the birds, geckos, other animals, and insects around me. I also love the fresh scent of leaves, grass, and trees after it rains. I want to live a self-sustaining life close to nature in a cozy, small cabin. Being petite at 152 cm height lol, I’d love a space that feels snug and personal, just like the beautiful cabins in this video. Growing up with just my mom, I remember how she built our simple little hut. I admire her self-sufficiency and resourcefulness so much, and I aspire to be like her. Lately, I’ve been inspired by videos like these keep up the great work!
I love the fact the Matt is focused on things of substance. Congratulations on achieving your dreams. GOD is definitely showcasing amazing character in/through you. Very inspirational. Thank you for your refreshing content.
It's never too late. 😊 I'm 64 and building a small cabin alone in the Hawaiian Jungle before hurricane season. It can be done if you need to.😊 Matthias, I concur with all the compliments. Love this build. Can't wait to see the lig cabin.
I like your comment. I wish that I would have learned carpentry or woodworking when I was younger. I would have liked to build myself and my Mom a small cabin/house.

Well done young man. This small structure will serve you well in the future. You can convert it to anything you want. Like a tool shed or even wood storage. The possibilities are endless.
My dad had a manual drill like that when i was a kid. I have fond memories of pretending I was working with him, he held an actual power tool and hed let me play with the manual drill. thanks for the memories.
thank you for uploading a start to finish video of your temporary tiny cabin. it's one of my favorites because the red roof tiles look so damn good, and you fit so much in such a small space. cannot wait to see how the main cabin turns out!
I've noticed that you're definitely not scared of hard work. I was stunned by what you've achieved with such a simple, limited tool kit. I take my hat off to you. I'm an Australian who has lived in an out of Latvia over the past decade. I will be returning to Latvia in about 18 months from now and I intend buy off-grid land and build my own place. I've never done it before, so I'll be getting the experience as I go. I have zero carpentry skills to speak of. I will be learning from square one.
I’m hoping my daughter finds a husband like you, energetic, intelligent, independent, skilled, thoughtful, confident, patient, visionary. A real man. It is wonderful when young people have a dream and they pursue it without excuses. It doesn’t matter what that dream is. Your attention to detail is beautiful to witness. Thank you for sharing. I hope you have many fulfilling years in your cabin(s). You built so much detail into your interim cabin, I can’t wait to see the build for the big cabin.

Oh my Lord.....are you sure you are not from another planet????? This is absolutely amazing and so glad it popped up. I was ready to go to sleep, but then completely and utterly sucked in once I started watching. I admire your strength, courage and amazing skills in building such a beautiful cabin and can't wait till the main house is finished. I'm sure whoever you end up marrying will be very happy and content to live in the same way that you have chosen and I can tell you are most grateful each and everyday that God has blessed you well. I'm so glad I stayed up to watch.......but you couldn't have pulled me away. I just could not stop watching. Can't wait to see the next video. Thank you so much for sharing this Matt. You are an extraordinary young man. Be well and take care of yourself.
Hammer and nail? No power tools? Now that's doing it right, you've got more guts to grind out that project more than anyone I know, everyone wants to use power tools, smh, hammer and nail makes you feel like you really accomplished the task and I salute you for it good sir!!!
Matthias I am also amazed and impressed that you are building a log cabin by yourself, you are awesome and doing an awesome job of building your small cabin and your log cabin to live in
I’m so moved by this. I can’t build anything but watching this was riveting. And I agree with others and am inspired by your skills, your strength and courage and by your dream for your life. Congratulations to you and your family - job well done !
What an incredible young man, I have difficulty getting my sons to take out the garbage. Your parents must be so proud of you. Great work ethic and talent.
For a young man you are very talented. You father taught you well as you must have had a deep interest in his wood working method. Your parents giving you a chunk of property to build your own home is priceless. Cheers brother..!! 👍👍✌
Nice. Now that you have your creature comforts taken care of with your new lil cabin, now you can spend more time on site building that log cabin. You gotta good skills, measure twice and cut once!

So Young and with so many skills , You are an example for all youth men for all boys , in this days of laysiness of earning a quick and easy money thrue not onest and hard worck but thrue other wicked ways You Man are a example for all youth Young and mature men !
You should run vertical strapping before you lay the horizontal strapping for the roofing. That allows egress of condensation that forms under the tiles as the hot and humid air cools in the evening. As it stands the moisture will eventually rot your horizontal supports. Also if you choke up on your hammer grip a bit, it will take fewer strikes to sink a nail.
Всем привет. Matt Jacobs. С интересом посмотрел данный видеоролик. Очень познавательно и привлекательно. Работа выполнена (домик), по сравнению с другими, -- очень профессионально и аккуратно. Подписался. Лайк. Успехов. Пока.
I like your analysis and use of wood and materials. You have controlled the overall construction method and labor to the lowest cost. You have the brains and physical strength to complete the construction goals. This is what I admire most about you. . I look forward to you completing more construction of your home environment in the future. There should be a lot of construction equipment to be completed on this land, and the design and construction of garden landscaping is also a science. I suggest you think more about water, electricity and green energy. Combine with ecology to create a beautiful ecological home, so that you can grow vegetables, fruits and live a self-sufficient life.
Being a PERFECTIONIST is going to serve you well in life. Ignoring some of the ridiculous comments is also a Gift lol. Inspiring video. Thanks for posting it. 😊
You are the epitome of a very strong and confident young man. And so talented to boot. I have no doubt that no matter what you build or what you put your mind to, it will be superb.
This is so wholesome and shows a beautiful side of humanity. A young man working hard with his hands to build himself a good life with honesty, skill and integrity. I will subscribe ❤
Not as easy to transport if you are in the bush, but OSB plywood would be much cheaper than dimensional lumber for the roof deck. Would have gone for the slight extra expense of 4x4s for the floor frame for strength and longevity. You might consider hinging the bed up to be a Murphy Bed, only taking support and mattress thickness out from the wall when unused for more headroom when seated. Also, look into SHOU SUGI BAN, which is how the Japanese made bare wood exteriors on their cabins last for decades by charring it with fire. Lastly, over time push yourself to hold that hammer closer to the far end. Much more leverage there. Always great to see someone take the initiative to do a DIY build. Inexpensive builds like this could help the homeless out a lot.
Seriously, this is one of the most inspiring videos I've watched in a while. Your hard work and determination, the confidence, the patience, the quality of the build. Thank you for sharing the journey.
Bro I'm so impressed you're a baller!! Nowadays I could give a s*** less if somebody has fancy rings and fancy jewelry with name brand clothes and awesome shoes this is the type of thing that I find value in❤

A really nice cabin affordable price
Hello watching from Philippines. 🥰😘
You know, kid, many people’s hands are crooked and grow out of their butt. But you have straight hands that grow from the right place.
Go on, kid!
Your "temporary" cabin has far better quality than many YT builds, which are intended to be "final". You have awesome skills. 💪🏻❤️
Thanks man

And I was thinking that here in 🇿🇦that it would be protection against wood eating termites/ants.
The place is so cute and it’s my first time seeing this 😢
Generally, the people making these videos make multiple a year so the structures do not need to last
What did he put on the wood and what was the white product called? Sorry. I’m very new to this.

Thanks!
I love that woodstove😮😊. What are your plans for the little cabin after your done?
It's awesome seeing young people wanting to live this kind of life.

Keep up the brilliant work! I look forward to seeing everything you desire and hope for become a reality!
Thank you very much! I appreciate it!
Absolutely living the dream my friend. Love watching your journey.
Young ladies out there, this is the kind of man you should be looking for.
As a woman I agree
Nossa bonitão mandou bem 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Too bad I typically look for the guys who can't even text back...much less be bothered to build an entire cabin.
Yes ladies find a man that can take care of you because apparently you can’t take care of yourself.

Подписался. Лайк. Успехов. Пока.

Thanks, I'm really glad to hear that.
This has got to be the most inspiring thing I’ve seen all day
Wow, you did a great job! 🥰🌟🌟
Thanks!
I wish every young man had this mindset. How productive the world would be.
Glad I found your channel : now I know I am absolutely good at nothing. Thanks!
You have very skillful hands. It turned out to be a great house.
Thanks!
Thank you sir. I appreciate that. Yes, I agree with you about the idea of self-sufficient life. That is what I will try to achieve.
Watching from the UK, im amazed how talented you are for being so young. I’m subscribed. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Super šikula, Maty!
Děkuju!
For obvious reasons that cabin would look great in my nature town. 🏡🏡🏡
Turn on closed captions, he does say a bit about his build process in them, interesting stuff, nice work my dude, :D
Thank you my friend :D
a good young man. a man that shows that old ways arn't lost
Great work.
You, young man, are living the dream.
Thanks for the advice. Even if it's not perfect, I'm glad you like it anyway. I appreciate it.
People made tiny housea for the homeless, but the government does not allow it.
the tar does the same thing as the SHOU SUGI BAN with out having to not catch everything on fire
Seriously, this is one of the most inspiring videos I've watched in a while. Your hard work and determination, the confidence, the patience, the quality of the build. Thank you for sharing the journey.
Bro I'm so impressed you're a baller!! Nowadays I could give a s*** less if somebody has fancy rings and fancy jewelry with name brand clothes and awesome shoes this is the type of thing that I find value in❤
Yellow is an excellent choice
❤❤❤
Single handedly built a temporary cabin & log cabin to perfection. Smart & a very skilled talented young man!
