    Very well stated. The opposition only seeks the emotional, not the legal. This in turn keeps them chasing their tails when they ought to celebrate the opinion reflecting the final say remains with the People.

    • @observer1242
      @observer1242 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with you Mark twain. The final say should remain with the people because the people have a right to determine the kind of society we wish to live in. The other side of the argument is that the decision should remain with the individual because the individual has the right to decide the fate of their body and the fate of the body that resides within them. This is the nubbin of the controversy. Senator Lee’s discussion was superb. But the remains a problem. If a person kills a pregnant
      Woman, it’s considered a double homicide. Any inconsistencies here?

    • @larrymiller4
      @larrymiller4 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Exactly. it is the ideological vs. the philosophical. The former is irrational and demanding, the latter is reasonable and rational.

      Statistically in a given population of people you will find a few people who are good and decent. You know who these people are because these are also the same people who continue their nobility even when no one is watching. Sadly, only a handful exist in the world and in our government. I don't believe the rest to be bad or evil. They just decide to take the easy route. These days standing up for good may cost you everything you ever worked for in your life and turn you into a pariah. There is no right or wrong answer. However, that is how societies erode and come to and end.

Mike Lee of lying about his reasons for opposing a full investigation into the events leading up to the attack. The officers allege newly revealed text messages detailing Lee’s efforts to help former President Donald Trump reverse his 2020 election loss suggest he was trying to cover up his involvement."

      Lee cares about one thing: imposing his far right, unpopular ideology on the rest of us. Conservatives can't win nationally so they've corrupted the courts.

    • @girlwriteswhat
      @girlwriteswhat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Norma's whole story? She spent most of her time from age 10 (when she committed a robbery) to age 15 as a ward of the state, mostly housed in reform schools (penal institutions for girls in trouble with the law). She was then released into the care and custody of her mother's cousin.
      She told her mother that the cousin had raped her daily for three weeks straight, and her mother let her move back home. The cousin denied the claim.
      She got married at age 16, and quickly got pregnant. Then she divorced the guy, citing abuse, and the baby was adopted by her mother.
      Norma claims her mother tricked her into signing "insurance" papers that were really adoption papers. Her mother denies that claim. By all accounts, at and following the time of the girl's birth, Norma had a massive drug and alcohol addiction problem.
      She gave birth to another child about two years later, and placed her with an adoption agency.
      When she was 21, she was pregnant again, and living in Texas. Her friends convinced her to claim she was raped so she could obtain an abortion. It's unclear whether Texas had a carveout for victims of rape at the time, but she tried, claiming she'd been gang raped by a group of black men. There was no record of a police report or any evidence supporting her claim.
      She was referred to an adoption agency, and she reluctantly went, but was adamant that she wanted an abortion.
      Her case was taken up pro bono by a couple of activist lawyers. I assume she read that contract as carefully as she read her mother's "insurance" papers.
      Never in the three years the case took to work its way up to SCOTUS did she appear in court. Not even once. She had the baby, probably not by choice, and put it up for adoption through the adoption agency she'd been referred to.
      In 1987, she publicly recanted the claim that she'd been gang raped by black men.
      In 1995, she was working at an abortion clinic, and an Evangelical pastor convinced her to accept salvation. Once she was baptized, she quit her job and became an anti-abortion activist.
      In 2004, she petitioned SCOTUS to reverse Roe, because there was significant evidence that abortion harms women. Maybe after working at an abortion clinic, she knew something we don't?
      I find it kind of interesting that she focussed on the harm to women, and not the harm to the unborn, but okay. There's a hierarchy of compassion, and women are generally at the top, even above children. We've only got so much milk of human kindness to go around.
      But let's not lionize this woman. She didn't _choose_ to have the baby.
      Maybe if she was given the option to abort, she'd have backed out, but maybe she'd have done it. If she'd done it, maybe she'd have regretted doing it and maybe she wouldn't have.
      And to get the abortion she wanted, she slandered black men as gang rapists. Believing that was the one lie that would get her the golden ticket in a racist Republican state.
      All the Democrats claiming that Republicans are now going to ban interracial marriage, and "wondering" what "white supremacist lawmakers" would do if their little white daughters were raped and impregnated by black men (yes a blue check on Twitter asked this)?
      Well, Texas Republicans in 1968 could have put those questions to rest. But probably not the way Democrats believe.
      Because in the good ole 1968, deep red state of Texas, you didn't get to kill an innocent little mulatto baby just because her black daddy might have sinned against a white girl.
      Norma now claims her case was exploited by activist lawyers for their own political ends. I agree. A case like this doesn't get all the way to SCOTUS without a single dime paid or appearance made by the plaintiff, unless it's political activism.
      On paper, she was the perfect plaintiff. A young, innocent rape victim carrying a black rapist's rape baby.
      On the stand, she'd have been a catastrophe. It's no wonder she was never invited by her own lawyers to weigh in on her own case.
      And maybe she had an epiphany. Or maybe she's just found a better grift. Because her abortionist lawyers weren't interested in actually paying her to tell her story, but anti-abortion groups certainly were.
      And you know. You go with the people willing to butter your bread.

Many democratic voters have been blindsided by the anarchy that is trying to “ build back better”. These people are easily identifiable and as always they are not a large group but very loud. I can’t imagine casting my vote in a traditional manner and waking up to find I had voted for destruction hate and just plain evil and I truly believe many Americans are experiencing this very feeling.

    Leahy is lower than a snake's belly. He disgusts me. Senator Lee, on the other hand, is an outstanding patriot and scholar; he knows the Constitution and is faithful to the oath he took to protect and defend it!

    Am I correct on this.. I thought I remember hearing that Mike Lee is a Constitutional Lawyer/Scholar. Is that the case. If so, it makes sense he is so very clear, deliberate and thoughtful when he speaks of law.

      Yes. He was on President Trump’s short list for SC Justice. He most likely would have been nominated in his 2nd term had not all the ballot harvesting and ballot dumps happened to overturn the Election.

      I agree with you. There are a handful in congress like Sen. Lee that fight. I think it’s time the old guard to move on in the party. Let the young fighters take the party into the future. Come November 2022 we will give them the chance to do it right! If not, time for a change.

      Agree with you. If Roberts had a spine he would fire EVERY clerk and assistant clerk and strip them of their law license until the guilty party comes forward, is found out or someone comes forward with their name/names.

    Summarized, best I can puit it together (new to legal jargin, bear with me)
    "Just because Roe SAID it was absolute, did not MAKE it absolute, and given its immorality, who cares if our pre-determined choice got leaked? Its GONNA happen because we are a REPUBLIC, we can DECIDE these things, as is our protected right to DO so. We arent perfect, but we HAVE a process better than ANYWHERE that can discuss this diplomatically, be the answer right OR wrong"
