    I put mine up a few months after yours. Out in the open without any guy wires, still working great!

      So how is it supported? I've seen them lashed to a fence post.

      @@laszlokovacs8827 I have a pole in the ground of a height equal to the height of the first telescoping joint. I ran two layers of duct tape such that the fit is snug. There’s no wiggle there, only the remaining poles above swaying in the wind. I live about a mile from Steve so subject to the same weather and wind. It IS an awesome antenna!

      That's a good idea. Cal is doing that in his test ranch.

      @@temporarilyoffline I got the idea from him! It works. And you know today it’s quite windy here, all great so far!

    The worry I have at my place comes from the days we get 40-50 knot gusts off the lake and I can't put it in trees to protect it a bit. I'm still going to put one up.

      Poles are cheap compared to the amount of contacts and ease of maintenance. Check out Rod N6NII's comments below, he uses the pole-over method, his is free standing and has gone through similar storms. Its very "normal" for us to get 30mph winds here.

    Looks like a solid antenna. :)

      I've been very happy with it. Set it and forget it.

      This is my favorite antenna, The only time I would change my daily antenna would be for the neboola!

    Looks great after two years! Definitely holding up well especially in those harsh conditions.

      I haven't touched it since the last video. "It does the thing"

    Looking good. I thought the nearby trees may cause radio interference though.🤔

      Cal says they won't, and I've made VK and ZL contacts... so even if it does...

    Nice that it’s holding up good. Looks like the elements need to be tensioned some more though.

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They probably could stand to be re-tensioned... but at this point I want to run it as long as I can before making changes to see if it ever falls down.

    My only question or concern is how the SWR and other aspects of the antenna performs when in snow and both the ground and transmit plate are covered by something electrically conductive (ie snow). I wonder if raising the antenna about a foot, or even two, might be better or mess with things. Thoughts?

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the same thought, but band conditions vary so much that you'd never be able to test it. I still make tons of contacts with it. So I'm happy.

      @@M0RMY Raising it 1-2 feet or have the ground plate and the radiating plate both being in snow?

      White snow is not conductive. Yellow snow is conductive, avoid that. :) 73 de w6akb
