I have this radio too and I too am still trying to learn how to use it all! Nice to see someone else going through the same learning process as me, seems like your right ahead of me. I have been unable to get it to work for APRS droid but the HT app seems to work fine.
I have a Facebook group for this radio and it's variants .. post your problems in it... Usually it's a corrupted aprs symbol... Also a new update was pushed out last week
can you do more info on exactly what is aprs to a non ham person? im studying currently and am interested in what i see with it but confused at the same time. is there a specific frequency used that everyone is on?
@temporarilyoffline yeah thats what I thought. If I change it via app will the icon perma ently change on radio too? Reason I ask as I saw myself beacon a telephone icon without the app, but ill try once more :)
What are your thoughts on the squelch threshold on the lowest setting. I find that even when the squelch is set on 1 (the lowest setting), is still way too tight on these radios.
One of the strangest things was all of the passcode generators out there that give you wrong codes. Keep trying different ones till you find a good one. I can't seem to get APRS to mute. My radio also has the wrong band plan, I've heard of a bunch of people getting radios with the wrong band plans. That's one thing I don't have a fix for yet.
The bluetooth app controlled radios by vero have me pretty excited ever since their GMRS PRO. Does the app allow you to type and send APRS text messages? In support of a trail race this weekend, we were talking about how great it would be if we could get everyone sending bib reports via APRS instead of copying via voice. Six of these radios and six tablets would do the trick (if you can type the messages on the tablet).
You can use the app to "text message" back and forth. I did it once in Dayton. I'd use a frequency other than 144.39 for the race day to make it easier though. Let me know how it works out!
I just got my N75. What a brain buster trying to figure out how to set all the settings... i also have the N7500. They might be great once i figure out the settings for APRS
If this handheld is the same as the mobile N7500 to use with the app, I’ll be buying one. That thing is pretty great for APRS. One note about the video, the first thing you selected about ID signaling over Radio seems to be a data burst every time you hit the PTT. Meaning, you will signal over repeaters too. I recommend turning that off.
I can get it to work through RF sometimes (APRSFI will update it about 30-1 hour later) and hit an local Igate (version 0.7.5). The issue I can tell is that the radio squelch doesn't open fast enough (not too much of an issue, just mute the sound), the Tx seems to cut it off and I don't see a way to change VOX. I was able to join one of the Chinese ham groups and talk to a few operators and get ack1 ack2 ack3 messages. The radio is nice, but Vero needs to work on a lot of software bugs (such as having to swipe left, go into settings, click fireware version, tap up the screen when it says "no updates available" 20 times before a new version is downloadable). I am also having issues lately with the app just launching on it's own with the recent update. We need to get a US based network groups established or at leased documented
I agree with all of that. I believe this the only radio that is this far ahead and all of the things I have seen wrong with it are able to be fixed in software.

IT DOESNT WORK WITH IPHONE. If you are looking for a Bluetooth APRS that works with iPhone look somewhere else. Tried and confirmed, this thing only works with Androids for APRS/Bluetooth. Just a public service so you dont waste your money like I did expecting that functionality that everyone in TH-cam mention. It will RX NOAA channels, but you have to program them in. I haven't seen a way to make it do alerts.

I don't see anyway to do that in the radio. Seems easy enough to add though.

I wish it had smart beaconing like the LANCHONLH HG-UV98 has Hopefully that will be added in later firmware updates.
I'm sure they will get it out soon, depends on how much memory they baked into the radio at the factory and how good their devs are.

I don't live in an urban enough area to have run into that problem. I'll check in when I am closer to a city.

Did you confirm how to use RF beacon and not the cell, if so could you do a video on how to beacon RF APRS only?
Sure did. Take a look at the map at the end of the video for results. Just disconnect the app and setup the radio and you're in business
you might be able to add induction charging using one of those adapters.
That's a good tip
