We recently set up a dedicated Mac for our mixer with a few apps running on it that make the sound tech's life easier. In this video, Dillon walks through everything we use the computer for.

GREAT VIDEO! Thanks!
Thanks for the tip on the RTA app. Will try it. 👍
Great setup!
Very similar. We use a Win10 box with two 27" monitors. One monitor normally runs M32-Edit as a second (faster) interface to the M32 and Reaper. The second monitor runs Waves Soundgrid for off-mixer channel processing. 100% agree running these apps on a shared ProPresenter Mac would be unworkable. Will be going to look for that patching software you referenced. Thx. D
Trackball gang!
Once you get used to it, you'll never go back
I am running a n100 mini pc for my mixer, connected it with usb and using Dante via I now have plenty of ports on the network 😂 half the cost of a dante mixer and much more possibilities
You actually can change the X32‘s RTA source to any input. I sometimes use it to ring out a room with the integrated oscillator.
Yep! It just isn't as effective when you need to utilize the X32's display for other things.
Thanks for posting. Watching the RTA while you were speaking makes me wonder if your room needs bass trap treatments to help eliminate low frequency buildup.
No low-frequency build-up. Just a lot of low-frequency ambiance like A/C, construction nearby, etc.
Why not just get the SD card made for this to record multitrack ?
🤷♂
If this is the dbx RTA-M mic it is a diffuse field mic which will show a large on-axis peak if you point it at the source. It is designed to be aimed 70 - 90° away from the direct sound, so point your mic at the ceiling and try again. It is also a pin 3 hot mic so it will create the illusion of a polarity reversal in all your measurements that is not really there.
Interesting...
@@collabworship just mentioned because I own one also and noticed issues when used incorrectly or pointed directly at the source
We utilize a similar setup with playback, but in our case I have the MacBook running Playback with Dante VSC so I can mix within playback and we have the iPad just remotes to start and stop things
Nice!
Future idea, add something like Waves superrack performer or live professor and show a bit of off-board processing on the new audio Mac. Like vocal tuning, other reverbs, etc.
That shouldn’t introduce some nice latency.
@@Bobby_Uterus it is used often. Especially for enhancements and reverbs.
With a Mac mini?
@@Bobby_Uterus A Mac mini will run superrack performer but it will introduce latency and that latency will increase in relation to your buffer size within superrack. I believe it’s around 5~6ms on the x32 platform running at 32 sample buffer size. Any DSP will be limited by the specs of the Mac mini and some plugins will add additional latency.
Correct, and vocalists will be the most affected by the latency. I suppose that if you are only processing front of house vocals and the singer is using IEMs it wouldn’t be as much of an issue.
Nice! Can open sound meter graph over time like audiotools? Or is it just live metering?
Likely can just record the reference mic into Logic for time series. Along with tracks from the X32.
hey id love to use sound meter.....i got a x32....what channel do u have it plug into??
Doesn't matter what channel you have it plugged into. You use virtual routing to choose the input (in our case it's "Loopback").
@@collabworship if you could show me...i would be interested
@@aaimginggraphics2411 Check the description of the video. Put a tutorial in there on how to get Loopback setup.
Tried this setup today and ran into a problem. The level of the reference mic in Open Sound Meter is way to high (30db above level measured by another meter). The reference mic is plugged into my SD8 attached to the X32 compact. I tried to reduce the gain on the channel the mic is connected to but it looks like it didn't have an effect. I tried to reduce the gain in X-USB in loopback and that didn't help either. How can I reduce the gain to get a closer match to the physical meter?
The only gain adjustment should be on the mixer. What is your current gain setting for that channel?
@@collabworship I set the channel gain all the way down. Then went to preamp under settings and set it all the way down too. The
@@wb9tpg1 That doesn't make any sense. Shoot me an email. dillon@collaborateworship.com
How are you connected to you pro-presenter computer for live audio? Are you splitting the USB to the two separate computers?
It isn't connected to the propresenter computer anymore. Now it's just connected to the new mac mini via USB.
How do you broadcast live now or do you?
@@Truck_Camping We are going analog out into a usb audio interface connected to another mac mini for live stream.
@@collabworshipthank you.
Are You using Dante from X32 to Logic Pro...? Ya Analogue Outs...?
Nope. Just the stock USB card.
