Thanks for posting this Jake! Such great information! I wish I watched this video before I implemented Dante at our church. We're running an Allen and Heath GLD80 with the Dante Module and love it!!! A couple of gotchas with Dante that I experienced: 1. You cannot use both Dante Virtual Soundcard (DVS) and Via on the same computer at the same time. 2. DVS allows up to 64 channels but Via has a maximum of 16 channels. 3. Many DAW's only recognize one audio interface at a time so if DVS or Via is the interface, you will have to monitor your DAW through Dante unless you are using a Mac which allows you to create an aggregate device. Windows on the other hand does not have a native way to aggregate devices. I tried using ASIO4All but couldn't get it working with DVS (it worked with Via). Finally I got it to work using one of the Dante Avio devices to route the signal to an audio interface to drive my monitors. If there is a better way I would love to learn it.
Did you have issues with running PT on an aggregate device? Thinking of going there Avio route and just put my interface on the network. Trying to avoid buying the Dante Avid racks just to monitor my mix without affecting the main livestream feed
My church uses the same setup with the Yamaha CL5 and the QL5 TF Rack mixers and the RIO3224 RIO1608 RI8 and the RO8 stageboxes and all this is using Dante audio networking for a digital split between all 3 consoles and stage boxes.

We use Dante From an Alan and Heath GLD 110 we route 8 channels of audio from stage from our Ableton computer, we also have a keys MainStage rig that we also send 2 channels of audio to the board. We then send another stream of audio to a computer running Logic Pro that records our 48 channels and then is routed to an X32 that is mixing for live stream. In addition to that we are looking at adding an x32 on stage to be our IEM rig which will receive the 32 channels from our GLD board and then allow us to have a completely independent iem mix for our team. The Dante network is a game changer! However DO NOT USE EEE energy effecient switches we bought 2 Gigabit "green" switches right off the bat and thought whats the difference. We had 2 instances of complete audio drop out from Ableton. NOT good get the business class switches it does matter.
Yesterday, I explained this to my pastor as we run an M32 foh. He’s on board to integrate Dante, so it’s gonna be great using Logic for live stream, ProPresenter playback, a PC for canned music, and our plans to start using multi-track playback on stage, all using Cat6!

Great video, in this setup you dont need any of the "Dante audio ethernet dongles" only just an ethernet connection? with the virtual soundcard on the PC.. and how is the front of house (audio box) connected to the network
I like that you can route audio channels to different devices (Sharing inputs and out puts). But I have two Heath & Allen mixers sharing one I/O box on stage. One mixer for front of house, One mixer feeds a computer with multi track audio. With Dante are the input gains for the two systems independent or does one dominate the other. The house gains and the recording gains are not the same. I deal with Jr High and High school students that often hide from the microphone to avoid being heard. With the recording I ride the gain higher knowing I do not need to worry about feed back from the speakers.
That's technically not true, I think. A stage box with a preamp has only 1 gain control per input. If you split that stagebox to 2 consoles, probably 1 of them is controlling the gain/preamp, and 1 of them has only digital trim. That is a fine way of lowering/raising the input volume, but it's not the same as gain/preamp. So if signal is too hot and clipping at the preamp, digital trim is not gonna fix that.
I am loving the video!!!! I wouldnt use an M32 for this kind of network because the console is limited to only 32 card in, but the console can do 32 channels of digital in, and also the Aux ins are able to come in on other inouts. When you do Dante you can only pull 32 channels in
Going to start this setup this week, had a snafu with live service today. Trying to route audio out of propresenter to both the ATEM live stream and in-house was not properly or intuitive.
You can set up an adhoc Dante network between two computers. All you need is Dante virtual sound card on both machines. (And also Dante controller is nice)
We went live with Dante last week. The drums (8 channels), click&guide (1 channel) and track (2 channels) were sent over Dante from a Mac to the FOH console (A&H SQ7), then all channels from the FOH console were sent over Dante to the Broadcast Mac for mixing on LogicPro before sending it to the video guys. We had a 2 second blip in each service where the Broadcast Mac wasn't receiving any audio. It happened so quickly and resolved itself, so we're a little bit worried and hoping it doesn't happen again.

Jake, I currently use the same switches you have attached to your link. I have been experiencing a lot of inconsistency in the form of audio drop-outs and static build up but cant seem to nail down the culprit yet. Have you had success with no issues with yours?
Hello, enjoyed the video. We recently got Dante set up. We're trying to route the audio we have going through Ableton Live to be route back to FOH and to our live stream. How would we go about that?
I have a question about the network switches. You mentioned that you have two. One up front and one in the back. So are you somewhat daisy chaining them together? From the front network switch two the rear one?
Has anyone had any issue with Dante Via and Intel Mac Mini? With our M1 Mac Mini we can successfully send audio out to anywhere, but with our Intel Mac Mini, for some, reason it will only show that it's transmitting a signal but non of the receiving devices shows it being received. However if we reboot the Dante card within the Dante Controller app, then and only then will the receiving devices receive signal. Which makes no sense. So I am not sure if this is an Intel problem with compatibility with our Avantis and dante card or if the Intel Mac mini itself has an issue with it within that we can see to figure out. Audinate pointed me to Allen & Heath for whatever reason but this seems to be more of a Dante issue than a Allen & Heath issue.
Thank you for this Tutorial! Are you remote (trigger) ProPresenter SongCharts via Ableton (Midi) AND output the Sound from ProPresenter via DanteVia? Is Ableton Midi then working via WLAN or do you have two LAN Network Dongles?
Do you have a dedicated computer running the Dante Controller or is it running on one of the computers running a different program such as the one running pro tools?
Do you need to install the Dante virtual Soundcard to use the ethernet connection for Pro Tools Multitrack?? have the M32R with dante sound card to work with. I am wanting to set up the multitrack recording for better recorsing capabilities for my music class
Late to the party, but on the output routing, is it necessary to send the Card 1-8 back out to the Dante network, when it's already available directly from your computers? Or am I misunderstanding how Dante routing works, and you can only patch an input to one output and not split?
Do all Dante enabled devices on the Dante network have to be brand specific. For example, let's say we have a yamaha stagebox but a X32 mixer. Will the stagebox be able to connect to the x32 via the Dante network?
I learned the hard way that the network switches need to not use EEE power saving. It can cut off your word clock and disconnect everything. We now run proper Cisco SG300 managed switches. This is from Yamaha's site, but regarding DANTE: Please do not use the EEE function (*) of network switches in a Dante network. Although power management should be negotiated automatically in switches that support EEE, some switches do not perform the negotiation properly. This may cause EEE to be enabled in Dante networks when it is not appropriate, resulting in poor synchronization performance and occasional dropouts. Therefore we strongly recommend that: If you use managed switches, ensure that they allow EEE to be disabled. Make sure that EEE is disabled on all ports used for real-time Dante traffic. If you use unmanaged switches, make sure to not use network switches that support EEE. * EEE (Energy Efficient Ethernet) is a technology that reduces switch power consumption during periods of low network traffic. It is also known as Green Ethernet and IEEE802.3az.
Hi Jake, Thanks for the great video... Im just wondering is it possible to send audio to my M32 live via usb on the default sound card that comes with the mixer?! and would it affect the sound quality? thanks bro!
Could I Just have a set up like: Ableton Live on a Mac, Ethernet cable into a Dante mixer, and route Inside Ableton all the physical sources plugged to the mixer? ( this to record and avoid buying a super crazy soundcard) Does it make sense and would this work?
Yes. You can run Dante Controller on any Mac/PC that is on the same subnet as your Dante devices. It's just a lightweight app for patching, status, and Dante device config. Dante Controller can also configure devices over WiFi, but the audio itself must use wired ethernet.

You can use the same LAN for both!
hi Jake, can i use just dante virtual soundcard from daw komputer to streaming computer ? without buy a dante soundcard for m32?
Wow this is crazy how a few purchases, cables, and dongles can save so many hours of headache.
so, are you still using AES50 to connect the stage box to the FOH console? Or how are you accomplishing the connection between stage box and FOH?
Is Dante different from NDI? Is there a different license needed for using Dante in an NDI universe?
Do you have a dedicated computer running the Dante Controller or is it running on one of the computers running a different program such as the one running pro tools?
Can you still access the internet on the devices that are connected via dante? Thanks for this video!
Do you need to install the Dante virtual Soundcard to use the ethernet connection for Pro Tools Multitrack?? have the M32R with dante sound card to work with. I am wanting to set up the multitrack recording for better recorsing capabilities for my music class
How able to user can monitor audio in ableton
How do i Route the audio OUT (Master 1 & 2) of Ableton Into a Physical 3.5mm Or another Device Out of the Main Streaming DAW?
can we connect audio to wirecast softaware from dante network? or please can make video live audio with with wirecast and dante network?
Late to the party, but on the output routing, is it necessary to send the Card 1-8 back out to the Dante network, when it's already available directly from your computers? Or am I misunderstanding how Dante routing works, and you can only patch an input to one output and not split?
Hi thanks for your videos, the dante communication are the same to AVB network??
Great Vid man .. question can I place a laptop with Dante and a pair of headphones to run a hardwired monitor mix ?
Do all Dante enabled devices on the Dante network have to be brand specific. For example, let's say we have a yamaha stagebox but a X32 mixer. Will the stagebox be able to connect to the x32 via the Dante network?
Could this setup work with loop community’s prime app ?
correction they do not create ethernet ports on macs, other manufacturers still do
I learned the hard way that the network switches need to not use EEE power saving.
Therefore we strongly recommend that:
If you use managed switches, ensure that they allow EEE to be disabled.
Great to know
Great info. Thanks for sharing.
But how will we monitor the audio that's being mix?
Hi Jake, Thanks for the great video... Im just wondering is it possible to send audio to my M32 live via usb on the default sound card that comes with the mixer?! and would it affect the sound quality? thanks bro!
Could I Just have a set up like: Ableton Live on a Mac, Ethernet cable into a Dante mixer, and route Inside Ableton all the physical sources plugged to the mixer? ( this to record and avoid buying a super crazy soundcard)
Does it make sense and would this work?
How do you suppose we route audio to a nursery using a cordless method.... because the nursery is in a different building.
Is Dante still a good idea to run your audio in house of worship in 2023/2024?
if its ok for you can you send all wat i need for dante how do u switch ethernet to normal cables
How do you get Audio from Abelton Live to OBS if using Dante Virtual Soundcard?
Cool! Thank you!
What a great explanation! One question: Can one run Ableton Live on the same computer as the Dante controller?
Yes. You can run Dante Controller on any Mac/PC that is on the same subnet as your Dante devices. It's just a lightweight app for patching, status, and Dante device config. Dante Controller can also configure devices over WiFi, but the audio itself must use wired ethernet.
What do you do for ableton midi to pro presenter? Do you set up something different for that?
So if we need a wired internet on that same computer connected to Dante, we'd need to use two LAN Network controllers, is that correct?
I'm stumped. My transmitters section doesn't look like yours. It has the computer and then ProPresenter in that section.
I can't seem to figure out how to send the audio from ProPresenter to the main mix?
Also, Another question: I Cant seem to route my sound OUT from my DAW to an analog cable. So can i send it INTO an AUX (1/2) On my x32? If so How?! Help lol
Can we use Dante to input audio to OBS Studio for Livestreaming?
I want to know this too. Let me know if you have the answer
@@gohanchavez333 Yes you can
We’re about to pull the trigger on an Allen & Heath SQ5 and DT168....they both have Dante cards....do I need a switch as well???
