  • Receiving our third patch of Cmonster (Cornish Cross) Chickens. That makes 300! Also checking up on the Cornish Cross in pasture. I suspect they’re not growing as fast as they should be. ALSO in the vlog: dog check up, prepping the brooder, pig foresters and treating cows. Click “SHOW MORE” for resources.

    Mr. Justin, I must tell you, you and your family are our first cup of coffee every morning. Sometimes we get to see a video in the evening. My wife said herself, the reason she likes watching these vlogs is we not only learn everything we need to know but also the Love you guys have in your family. Then she asks me if we were premium member supporters. At the time we weren't but I knew it was time we were. Keep things coming.

    But you CAN grow lemon! You just keep it in a pot and haul it in during winter. You have a green house, it will be just fine in there when it is semi-hot, like spring and autumn. Lemons keep coming, it flowers all the time. Smells fan-tas-tic! I got one for my birthday and I live in the northern part of Sweden. We will store it in the garage with extra light in december and januari (it needs the rest in cool air) and then just take it indoors until it can be in my greenhouse. (Lots of light up here, a bit too cold for lemons outside) Just try! Good luck!

    Glad your doctoring the cows is worked. Being splashed, one of the hazards of chores. All looks good, thanks for sharing.

    Jonah is so knowledgeable. You see how he guesstimates and predicts out into the future schedule for harvesting chickens? He already knows what size the birds should be for the schedule they have. I bet he is calculating all the work ahead with the new chickens, plus ways to keep on schedule and fatten up those birds! 👍
    Question, doesn't the duck want water to swim in?

      Great question. Although the Goose does like water, he/she doesn't need it to thrive.

    You can grow lemons and pineapple in NC! You have a greenhouse now! I've been growing my own lemons for years in GA. Meyer lemon in a pot - I get 20 - 30 lemons a year from a small bush. Plant your pineapple top and keep it in the greenhouse - you'll eventually get pineapples.

    We have problems with condensation under our carports. Water will drip all over the cars. This mostly happen when there is a big change in temps. We live in the southern piedmont area of NC. I love the way you're raising your children. And I thank you for sharing all this info with us!

    If you have the water barrel close to the edge of the building so the rain run off fills your barrel and then have an overflow hose that goes to the lawn or garden. It would save having to fill up water every now and then

    • @theJustinRhodesShow
      @theJustinRhodesShow  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is a possibility. But we only have to fill their water like every few weeks so it's not a big hassle right now. But, maybe when things slow down a bit we could rig this up.

    "She's really puffed up, bless her heart." Great way for your video to end, Justin! Great editing. Your videos are such a joy to watch. I was holding my breath, though, when Gideon was in with the baby chicks. I'd think it would be challenging for an adult not to step on one or even its tiny foot.

    you could use the gutters to drain into the auto waterer, collecting the rain water to help keep the pigs watered

  • @LazyDogsRanch
    @LazyDogsRanch 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Flashing mounted under the edge would probably work, too. If you're going to do gutters, you should get Jason to set up a catchment. You could have an overflow line to send out excess so it doesn't splash into the pen itself.

    If your pig port keeps leaking look for the rubber gaskets that go between the layers and see if that isn’t what you need you should be able to buy them at Lowes or anywhere that sells the metal sheeting

    Love the videos have you not thought of growing sub tropicals in greenhouse in the summer such as peppers sweet and hot. We grow all our seeds in there then i grow more tender plants through the summer.

    Do the kids goto school ? They are so young and do so much work around the homestead. Whats the secret to getting them to help lol

    • @kenchappell2054
      @kenchappell2054 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The children are home schooled. The first "secret" to getting them to help is that the children were started on day one. In previous videos you will see Justin carrying Gideon (Mr. Brown) around in a baby carrier while he does the chores. This lets the children see what's going on and over time little kids think to themselves, "I can do that." so they want to help. Then the second secret is that children get an allowance for the work that they do. This leads to the power to purchase what they want (under parental supervision of course) and they learn that work equals money equals financial freedom. The children don't have to participate but no work means no allowance but as you can see in the two older boys they take ownership of the animals in their care.

    I don't know about you but in Jamaica, we eat fried chicken neck and as such it is best if you raise the feeder off the ground to stretch their necks because longer is better so you get more meat off the neck
