    As a 71 year old Canadian with 55+ years of riding I wanted an NT for a “pipe ‘n slippers” touring bike. However, Honda decided North America isn’t worthy of the product so . . . I added an Africa Twin to my garage, mostly because I wanted more experience with the AT’s engine and DCT prior to buying an NT . . . should it ever arrive here. Now, I think I’ll just keep the Africa Twin - Honda got me again, the bastards!

      I was excited to see and hear about when it first came out the NT 1100 but then when I saw it I thought no it’s kind of ugly looking. I’ll just keep my 2013 BMW 1200 RT because that looks really great compared to this bike, sorry Honda.😮

    Thanks for the comparison. VERY few people mention road manners with pillions in reviews so I am grateful you included that.

    An interesting comparison but a few points to add- I commute daily on a 2018 ATAS in much heavier trafic than Stratford! I live in Lyon where we have proper traffic jams between 6-9 am and 4-7pm every day. One thing you never use on a daily basis is side cases! They stay in my garage in favour of a top case. The AT is no problem in heavy traffic. Good road presence and excellent visibility. I fit a small screen in the Summer as it gets really hot here and airflow is extremely welcome. I also have an ST1100 and can tell you that the AT is way easier to move in the garage than the tourer. It’s much easier to balance. I’ve toured with the AT. I’ve done off-road trails in the Alps. It’s just an amazing all rounder . I’ve tested GS’s to see what the fuss is about and still can’t work out why people rush to buy them. Very competent in all areas but doesn’t light up in the twisties or off-road like an AT. Buy a GS if you’re happy plodding around at the weekend. Buy an Africa Twin if you still want that bit of fizz and crackle!

    Great review lads. I’m fed up changing gears on my Rt and the TFT Nav is rubbish plus a weighty bike. I’m seriously considering a NT

    As an observation, long distance tourers need some key things if I would consider buying one, one of which is shaft drive. I don't get the NT1100, probably a lovely bike, but it looks like the VFR1200X but with 2 cylinders. I have owned a VFR1200x for 8 years and with the exception of the standard seat love every aspect of it, and no chain maintenance.

    • @jimporter
      @jimporter 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      At some point I expect Honda will bring back the VFR1200 platform taken out to 1300cc and wrapped in ST1300 like clothing as the new Pan European to sit between the NT1100 and the Goldwing to compete with BMWs at around the £18-20k mark.

    I can see the value of my vfr1200x going up, never going to make a shaft driven big bore V4 again. Any issues review’s had of of it I’ve fixed, Suspension, seat and cruise control.
    They used to complain about weight but seems to get a pass on the electric adv bikes.

    Very nice and interesting point of views, obviously in UK the price difference is so small so there is reason to think which one you want, in Finland AT goes so much more expensive that there is no deal for it if you are really not actively riding off road, in comparison with AT touring model the price difference is even bigger. Guys you are very lucky men if you can make cross continental couple times per year = ))) all the best for you and your channel

      I don’t see the comparison frankly. The Pan was shaft driven, very fast via its V4 engine and had an electric screen. I loved mine, and while the DCT gearbox on my Goldwing is brilliant, the NT and older Pan just don’t look comparable.

    Did you Jack the rear preload up to max while with a pillion? It would of made a big difference to the handling if you had. Is there not adjustable damping on the rear of the AT? If so some extra rebound would of made the pillion much more comfortable with a lot less bounce. Not something you can adjust out of the NT.

    I have the Africa Twin 1000 2017 DCT. Love it too bits but the NT does look good as a tourer. Being a bit of a short ass, I find the AT a bit wilding when in tight situations.
    My main worry is the cost of servicing the valves , plugs etc. I wonder if the NT is a cheaper option concerning servicing?

      Its not just the NT1100, "D" mode on ALL Honda DCT models try to shift to a higher gear as quickly as possible, its terrible. I tried it once on my VFR1200X and now I only ride in Sport "S3" mode, it holds each gear MUCH longer.

    • @ewganhoff
      @ewganhoff 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Don't you think that perhaps the Honda engineers might know what they're doing? Maybe we're all used to keeping our engines a bit higher up the revs because we were always taught never to lug, but if honda program the gearbox to do that it's more than likely perfectly fine, and saving you fuel.

    Good, bad commuter, well on those road you were riding any bigger bike will probably do very well. But what about a good commuter for London traffic if it is your last 10-15 miles ride to go a cross it or just around that much? And do not even mention scooters 🤣 I think that even mid-weight bikes with good fuel economy doing very well on the open roads, fail terribly in heavy traffic and only those who do that daily know what I'm talking about :) Plenty of skills and mountain of patience :) But still, on some days I even enjoy slaloming between cars.
