There’s also difficulty settings and an endless mode, making it easier to grind out the rare ghosts. Not to mention that 2’s ScareScraper is MUCH easier to play solo on than 3’s ScareScraper
Yeah basically everything is great in luigi's mansion 2 scarescrapers other then the fact that there's no additional boss fights at the end of a run, wish they could have added a bit more in that aspect, but hey its still a fun game.
Pricing of games is such an interesting topic to me. Whether a game is "worth it" is so tremendously subjective and there's so many different ways you can try to "quantify" the fairness a game's price tag. Graphics, gameplay, length, big studio vs indie, age, development time, brand/franchise, system, extra features, etc. And all these factors weigh in at completely different levels for different people.
And the way companies decide pricing is different from the way consumers do. Nintendo prices this game at $60 because they know people *will* buy it, it's the Mario brand, so there's no reason to make the price lower. And they priced Metroid Prime Remastered, which had 100 times more effort put into it, at $40, because the franchise is more niche and the price needs to be lower for the game to sell.
I got it today and I love it. This game was my childhood and yeah it should have been $40 instead of $60 but i haven’t been able to play it for years after my 3ds broke so I jumped at the chance to play this masterpiece again.
If you already have the 3DS version don’t buy this port. It’s the exact same game. Unless you are a big dark moon fan there is no reason to get the same game again. If you have never played the original game on the 3DS, then I would highly recommend this port but not for $60. I would just wait for a sale or something
Not only is Dark Moon my favorite Luigi’s Mansion game (due to ghost design, combat, story Emerson, mansion variety, etc.), but my 3DS doesn’t work anymore,. However, I’m NOT paying $60 for it. I’ll buy it when i5 goes on sale at GameStop. (I like having my games physical, except Pikmin 1+2, I was impatient)
One thing that confuses me is why everyone only say “texture updates” And like yes it does look like that to be fair Howeber direct comparisons show alot of work did go into remodeling stuff They didnt simply just upscale textures With that said there still isnt much of a difference overall, perhaps better lighting woulda fixed the graphics more
Yeah it's definitely more than just texture updates, there's updated models, animations, probably some lighting, and maybe a few touches to the audio beyond the obvious lack of compression.
@@CafeCharlie Digital foundry did a video comparing the two indepth and they did do quite a bit with it in that regard. A lot of it might be hard to notice outside of close ups in regards to facial animations nad the like, but they did touch up the lighting too in a lot of places. Some areas are more naturally brighter and some are darker, like the garden of the first mansion being bright but the hallway with the knight armors being darker. They also added shadows to things that didn't have them before from what I've seen and improved them too. I think it's understandable and fine if people consider it overpriced for what is offered but I do wish people wouldn't undermine what exactly was done to it. It's not on the level of Prime Remastered but it's more than the usual remaster.

As someone who loves and defends Dark Moon, I haven't really seen much reason to buy it outside of a graphical update I'd honestly love to see you make a video on the type of new content you'd add to the game, I think co-op would be nice just so every LM game can have a multiplayer alternative for the main story but other than that I think it'd be cool to see what you'd come up with lol
I actually wanted to do a video coming up with a concept for a Luigi's Mansion 3D action-puzzle-platformer that takes place in the Evershade Valley with little mansions you can explore. Maybe in October I'll do something like that!

I feel like 2 has a way better sense of atmosphere than 3 honestly. Playing 3 gave me a new appreciation for 2, which I was previously underwhelmed by. I don't really think 3 is like the first game at all other than the single location + no missions, 3 felt to me like it leaned in the opposite direction in every other area and that 2 is somewhere between 1 and 3.
Yeah it's really tricky to rate the atmosphere. Because I think LM3 is a very beautiful game and has a lot of character, but it somehow doesn't translate as well into atmosphere.
I have it on the 3DS. I loved the game. It doesn’t have the same feeling playing it again on the 3DS if you already have completed it before. With this version it’s a new release (2024), in HD. And the urge to play it again. And since I played it on the 3ds when I was a kid and 100%inch doesn’t occur to you as much when you’re a kid. Now I can 100% it.

Maybe wait til spooky season and see if it goes on sale by then, or still sounds like something you'd wanna pick up at full price. It's an awesome upgrade for sure that I think any big Dark Moon fan should get at some point, but at the same time the price tag makes it hard to recommend.

You forget, the first game ALSO was split up, 4 parts each with a boss ghost, and you couldn't go everywhere all at once, most rooms were locked so you needed keys, and each key would only open a certain door.
The graphical overhaul is definitely that big of a deal. I just replayed the game and I'll admit I watched some old let's plays from the game on 3DS: the difference is staggering. It really cannot be understated how much of an upgrade going from 240p to 720p (1080 docked, which is pretty much all I played) is. This could easily be a game from this year. I have minor gripes with the camera sticking to a front on view instead of full rotation and E. Gadd calling you a little too often but neither of these have to do with the visuals themselves. If you're like me and no longer own a 3DS or the associated title, this is the most convenient and frankly the best way to play this game. Not to mention it's an absolute banger especially if you love the series.

I bought it and I liked it a lot, then again I never played the 3DS version, but I'm sure the upscale was pretty extensive, there's no way the 3DS version has models, textures, lighting or bump maping like the Switch version.
IMHO Luigis mansion 2 has the better atmosphere than 3, its darker and the levels are more fun then in 3 where you just spam all gadgets and are stuck until you remember you forgot one, the item arsenal is too bloated and also the variety of ghost in 3 is even worse than 2, which was already worse than 1 (not talking about the hd version, which seems to be waaay too bright in comparison

Could u go look for him and the roller coaster is out of order has code to fix F-3 Bingo! Ive located the Dark moon peice, its in the Crystal cavern. The toad brought back a security image and the code for the rollercoaster. F-4 pixel ghost. The Noise Poltergeist has stolen the Key to the Rollercoaster! He should be at the Band tower! It’s a great game, I’m more than happy to pay for it. I played it on the 3ds. I loved it. Now it’s a new release (2024) and it gives me the urge to play it. And now I’m older and 100%ing games means more than it did, I can now 100% this.
Honestly, the game shouldn’t be 60$. I love Dark Moon, it’s probably my favorite Luigi’s mansion! But the game should have been it’s OG price (which was 40$) instead of 60$. But like every Mario related game nowadays are like. 60$ so eh, go figure.
So far I like the game but they shouldn't have remade an old game when they could have spent that time and effort to make Luigi's mansion 4. And they DEFINITELY shouldn't be charging NEW GAME PRICES for an OLD game they polished up a bit. It's not even CLOSE to the same graphics as 3, and if they made it with modern resources they should have been able to make it look WAY better.
I would recommend getting 3 first since it's the same price and higher quality. The game looks far better and was made for the Switch rather than brought to it, so it's almost definitely going to be a better experience. But I'm not saying you should never get LM2HD, just that you should pick up LM3 first.

It's at least not super compressed like it is on the 3DS. So I don't really think there's any new audio, just that the sound effects and music are higher quality.

This is such a nice, nuanced, and overall fair look at the game and its faults, both in terms of price tag and just general gameplay quirks. Excellent video here, it’s a really nice take on the situation.
I think the $60 price tag is enough to keep most people away from this game. It's the only negative aspect and it's not something I need to breakdown. I just need to give as much info on the game as I can to help people evaluate for themselves whether or not that's enough to pay $60.

If you played it on 3ds, don't. If you never played it, don't. It's not worth 60$. Wait until a sale.
It’s a great game, I’m more than happy to pay for it. I played it on the 3ds. I loved it. Now it’s a new release (2024) and it gives me the urge to play it. And now I’m older and 100%ing games means more than it did, I can now 100% this.
Honestly, the game shouldn’t be 60$. I love Dark Moon, it’s probably my favorite Luigi’s mansion! But the game should have been it’s OG price (which was 40$) instead of 60$. But like every Mario related game nowadays are like. 60$ so eh, go figure.
So far I like the game but they shouldn't have remade an old game when they could have spent that time and effort to make Luigi's mansion 4.
And they DEFINITELY shouldn't be charging NEW GAME PRICES for an OLD game they polished up a bit. It's not even CLOSE to the same graphics as 3, and if they made it with modern resources they should have been able to make it look WAY better.
The port was so lazy though, I wish they got rid of the interrupting level progression and reworked the gimmicky boss battles
Honestly, I'd say buy it if you've never owned the game. If you have, wait for a price drop or don't bother.

I would recommend getting 3 first since it's the same price and higher quality. The game looks far better and was made for the Switch rather than brought to it, so it's almost definitely going to be a better experience. But I'm not saying you should never get LM2HD, just that you should pick up LM3 first.

It's at least not super compressed like it is on the 3DS. So I don't really think there's any new audio, just that the sound effects and music are higher quality.

I think the $60 price tag is enough to keep most people away from this game. It's the only negative aspect and it's not something I need to breakdown. I just need to give as much info on the game as I can to help people evaluate for themselves whether or not that's enough to pay $60.
