Well deserved! I started binge watching your vids during COVID. As a guy in his 30s who just started wearing a primer and concealer, your channel has been a goldmine. Bless the very patient souls at Sephora for humoring me in color matching and going through basic technique, but there are a lot of gaps that needed to fill in on my own. These videos gave me the confidence and vocabulary to try it out in the first place. Most of your content isn't /for/ me, I get it, but I still watch because it's given me a huge appreciation for the cosmetics as an artistic medium and expression of self-care, and the hours of work and trial-and-error that can go into finding a good look (or non-look, as the case may be).

I have to say, as a 27 year old woman from Miami, FL. I Completely agree and resonate with your answer regarding being content in yourself with out injections, or procedures done to your face/body. I have never done fillers, surgeries or any type of procedure to my face/body, nor do I plan to. And it's hard these days to actually come across people that can agree with this. But although I did consider It for a while from pressures of societal beauty standards. I did realize that I don't need it and every one does truly look the same with those things done. I think Natural beauty is the best! So happy to see an influencer like you promoting this ✨

I have never had any interest in makeup in my 30 years but love drawing and seeing other artists create and show their process has always been calming and therapeutic to me. Randomly one day a video of yours was suggested and i literally got hooked on seeing more tutorials and from there got curious to practice it myself. Hey there- I went to art school too- got my BA in illustration..i started out in oils, too, and eventually had the best professor I ever had in watercolor-and discovered after being so afraid of it and disliking it that I loved it. I break all the “rules” in watercolors.. it’s just so much easier to not have all of the crap & fumes with oils- and brush cleaning.. so easy. That advice on adjusting irregularities, in faces, when doing makeup, was fabulous! I do it every day with my face! 😂

Congrats Alex!! I'm sure you've been told this a million times (1 for each subscriber, I guess), but the reason I and a lot of other people love your content is the combo of your bullshit-free, down-to-earth attitude, plus your unique perspective - coming from an art background, you can really explain the *theory* behind makeup in a way that makes it easy for us to understand. Instead of just trendy tutorials, you teach *how* to do your makeup in a way that works for *your* face, and how to make those trends work for you (which you touched on).
Your note on creative content not being rewarded by this platform reminded me of one thing that's been on my mind a lot lately - not just specific to you, but creative media in general - that you have two audiences: the core audience that loves what you have to offer, kinda ride-or-die and is into what you can uniquely bring to the table. Then you have the casual audience that is bigger but less into your unique perspective, more into the generic content that everyone else out there is doing. For example, there's a mobile app/game that I really love, with great content and well-written stories that genuinely make you feel something. There's an online community of people who are really invested in that app and are passionate about their stories. But the rest of that app's competitors tend to have trashy, uninspired stories that really are just cash-grabs for the developers. Instead of pursuing their unique lane, the app I enjoy has shifted their focus to be like everything else around them (including some really cringy ads that don't really represent the app well). It creates such a dissonance because they're alienating their core, passionate audience by pandering to the audience that will bring in more money. And I understand it because the devs have a job and need to be paid for their work, but it's disappointing as a player who loves what they *could* do. I'm not saying this as a warning because I don't think you're the kind of person to sell out just for views, but rather as an encouragement: when videos you put a lot of work into don't do as well as you hoped, it's not a reflection on you, it's a reflection of the system you're working within. The people who really love your content for YOU are the ones who are watching, and that's what really matters (aside from ad revenue..........).

You are so creative and understanding that many of us don’t have your eye for color, placement etc. or technique and are all thumbs etc. around make up brushes. I’m not at all surprised your background is in art. I am in awe of any artistic person because of their ability to see the world and colors in a very different way than my artless, less than creative ass-How do artistic people *do* that?! Totally understand and respect your choice about being private and not telling us everything. I think many TH-camrs feel the need to overshare, being public figures, but they really don't have to. Without sounding stalkerish - I feel like we’re kindred. Since the first time I watched you, I felt that our personalities were super similar, even our mannerisms & the way we speak - which is strange cause I’m Canadian lol. But after watching this - so many more similarities! I was always drawing portraits, especially women, preferred pencil, but ended up going the psychology route & am now a therapist. But still love art & makeup 😛. And I’ve cut out sugar & carbs from my diet - although not for my eternally dark circles haha. But pasta will always be my BFF.
