I was born in 1980. I never saw the Fletch movies till 2016. Watched em with my Dad & bout died laughing. He passed a few months after. The last time we laughed hardcore together. Good flicks!!! Peace.
Man...Easily one of the most under-rated comedy movies of the 80's. And so damn quotable! "Bend over." "Nice to meet you, Ben." This was Chevy at his very best. And thank you for mentioning the soundtrack! So good! If you watched this back in the day, Chevy taught you how to be low-key funny and witty. One of my all-time favorites.
There's been days, or weekends, where i would just leave this movie on repeat. I eventually ended up with a 6 hour videotape of it where it plays 4 times. This movie will never get old at all.
Doc: "Babar that's an unusual name, isn't there a childrens book about an elephant named Babar?" Fletch: "I'm sorry I don't have any" Doc: "No children?" Fletch: "No elephant books"
I was 12 when Fletch came out. Like you, i saw it more times than I can remember. It's one of the few movies I saw multipole times in the theatre. My friends and I memorized the lines and repeated them to each other for fun. It was so good I continued to watch Chevy Chase perform hoping he would recreate the magic. He never did.
What about Seems Like Old Times? The Governor of California "This man is wanted for bank robbery in Carmel and he's serving us dinner. How is that possible? Chevy Chase "Well you have prepare everything ahead of time."
The movie has a lot of really good quotes, the one that always stood out to me growing up a Lakers fan back in the 80's was in the dream sequence. Lakers great play-by-play caller Chick Hearn, "six-five, with the aftro, six-nine. Of course having Jabbar in there was icing on the cake. Fletch Lives, yeah, I can understand why it's received the negative feedback over the years, it's not nearly as good, but serviceable if you're a Chevy Chase fan. The first Fletch is still one of his best movies.
I never see any talk of the movie The Heavenly Kid or 18 Again. I watched those over and over as a kid, I know I can't be the only one. Would be neat to watch a video about them.

One of the supporting players in Universal's Fletch was Miss Alison MacKenzie of the Walt Disney Company. This was her first American picture after appearing a string of successful sitcoms: Cheers, Family Ties, The John Larroquette Show, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, 7th Heaven, Melrose Place, Sunset Beach, Spin City, Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, Gilmore Girls among others. Married to veteran actor/filmmaker Philip Charles MacKenzie since 1992. The couple had met together since the fall of 1981. Although they're still together, the couple living in separate homes from their lives and kids. In many ways, it's a win-win situation.
Chevy Chase were a huge name, but his prime time were more or less only a few years in 1980's. Fletch, Vacation Movies, Caddyshack, Funny Farm and Three Amigos. Quite short list considering the status of his name.
I loved Fletch, both the book(s) and the movie. It's almost like the plot is just a setup for Chevy to do comedy bits. Fortunately, they did stick to the plot so that there's something happening and a resolution to the story.
A great fun movie. It’s rare compared to most modern films because it has a great script but also a very clever story. I agree. The soundtrack rocked. The cd has long since vanished but I managed to find a FLAC copy on a website years ago. Shame the followups didn’t do quite so well. I found the sequel maybe a bit too silly but I seem to remember there were issues during production.
I just rewatched this a few days ago. It was still very funny. My only complaint is that 99 percent of all Chevys lines were quips. Most of them landed, some didn’t lol.
One of my favorite movies & Chevy's best, IMO! Where is the 'Fletch Lives' commentary, I don't see it in your Videos section. Please post link. Thanks!
I loved seeing that actor with the southern accent. Burton Gilliam. He played the rail construction boss in Blazing Saddles. His version of the song The Camptown Ladies was epic.
Also, I was suprised to find that I could speak along with the lines presented in this video perfectly accurately. Been a long time since I've seen this but I saw it a lot.
It's a film that's got better with age (probably because so many comedy thrillers fall flat these days). Chevy Chase certainly lifted the movie. I've read several of the books and they don't live up Chevy Chase's take on the character. It was that X-factor that was missing from the Jon Hamm film.
I think the author didn’t like the changes at first because he didn’t make movies he wrote books. Once he saw how it flowed and still told most of his story he was like okay cool! Chevy as Fletch was funnier but the book Fletch is much more witty. There are a ton of Fletch books out there and they are all awesome!! I highly recommend reading or listening to them. They are included with an Audible subscription!
Lol. It’s Harold FALTERMEYER not FLATERMEYER 😂😂😂 And the Gordon Liddy character name is based on G. Gordon Liddy not Gordon G. Liddy 😂😂😂 So much for being a huge fan!

Aside from Caddyshack (I consider Caddyshack an ensemble film and not a "Chevy Chase" film per se) so yes, this is his best movie.
