I made my own stamp positioner. Using a slim A4 plastic case, inserted foam sheet cut to size. Added a graph grid which I laminated to enable cleaning. It works really well and for very little cost. One day I will purchase a Misti but will need to justify the cost.
Wow thanks for the idea. You said A4 and immediately I thought of a CD case. I used an older CD case as it is a little thicker than the newer ones, because i needed something to hold the stamps i have that are bigger than the stamp holders i purchased. So far so good. Thanks for the idea.
Great review Ardyth. I have a Misti or two and I need to get Gina's wheel. Then my life will be perfect. Not sure if I've told you before. Your voice is perfect for tutorials and such. It's so calming 😌 It's bedtime now. Could you grab a book to read to me 😂❤ Not a diss in anyway.
Thank you for this video. I'm a newbie at cardmaking and didn't want to go too expensive until I was sure I enjoyed it. MISTI was not my 1st choice of stamping platform. I have the Tim Holtz platform, which was gifted to me. It seems to have developed a spot that doesn’t want to stamp clearly anymore, regardless of how many times I repeat the stamp nor how much pressure I apply. I have recently purchased my first Misti (& the new SSS tacky mat) but haven’t used it yet.
Your granny quilt is beyond adorable! (And you have such patience.) I have a bunch of stamp positions too and have given away some. Tool girls/women rule! One I have passed on is the Altenew wheel. Not into using both hands to lift it up and down 30 million times. (I do love the mini Gina K wreath builder.) But I also gave away the Stencil 360 kit and bunches of stencils although it’s a remarkably cool tool. I wasn’t using it and someone wanted one. Better to rehome than ignore.
LOL! It's a variation of Carly's tip of stamping on acetate to help with placement. I was about to do that when I saw the packaging sitting right there.... Thanks for watching, Sheri!
I bought one from a scrapbook store online and recently pulled it out after a couple of years sitting ona shelf and am just intimidated by it. You make it look so easy.
I think we can get too much in our minds about these things, wanting to be 'perfect' the first time we try something. Maybe just play with it at a time when you're not rushing to actually get something done, and I think you'll be surprised how quickly you figure it all out. Good luck!
I did a little happy dance when I saw the Granny Squares stamp set. I fell in love with it and have had it a while but haven’t used it yet. Love how you used it with the stamp wheel! Thanks for all the tips 😃
Me too! I have been thinking about ways to get a granny square look in my card making, but a small stamp set like this really made it easy! Thanks for watching!
I thought about the stamp wheel but I'm not sure how my arthritic hands/wrists would like -- or probably not like!- the flipping motion. I'd likely drop it on my project! But the misti is my absolute must crafting tool; it's the only reason I was able to come back to stamping at all. Lovely cards 😊
I definitely have not had a problem with the stampwheel but I do not have arthritis in my hands, so that is not helpful for you. Definitely the MISTI door makes things super easy and reliable! Thanks so much for watching, Melissa!
Great video, Ardyth! Love all the comparisons you did. I have 3 stamp positioner tools - the We R Memory Keepers Precision Press Advanced Stamping Tool, the original large Tim Holtz Stamping Platform, and the original sized Misti in the new turquoise color. I've got a few stick and stamp mats and just ordered a Waffle Flower grip mat for my Misti. I also have the Gina K wreath-builder set and a number of Concord & 9th turnabout stamps with the jig set. I thought about getting the Stamp Wheel, but I'm holding off for the time being. So glad to see you using that Altenew granny squares stamp set, I just recently got it and have only seen you and Jaycee use it! Your cards all turned out so cute with it, can't wait to get mine out and use it!
I have 3! 😂 😭 Thank you Ardyth for your fair and thorough assessment of all of these platforms! I have been salivating over the Stampwheel but have to see if I’ll even use it as much as the Misti! ❤
I have a misti and also a Tim Holtz one. The thing I like about the tim holtz one is that the door comes off like the sizzix you have there and the hinge has a metal bar so its really robust. It has 2 sides that don't have raised edges but you do still have the corner to easily line up so you can stamp on 8x8 cards without risking creasing the card if it overhangs which could happen if I used the misti on bigger pieces. Between the two I find i have the best of both worlds but I do like the look of the stamp wheel.
I have several also. 😂 And use them all for different things. Mini Misti is usually in my bag for going elsewhere. I have a small Tim Holtz one that I keep handy for smaller things. Original size Misti and Altenew are within reach. I keep the Altenew in the original box so far. Really great comparison!
Thx Ardyth. I actually have the now retired Stampin up Stamparatus which is similar to the misti but has 2 doors you can move ve up and down. I use Good na K wreath builder with it. I would like to get a Mini Misti.
I was going to buy the Stamp Wheel but instead bought the Scrapbook size Misti. I love that I can stamp scrapbook size (12x12) pages and stamp 4 card fronts at once. I use my Gel Plate for stencils and it’s all good! I also have my TH one and one from Europe that looks like the Sizzix one. It’s my go-to. I find the TH one clunky!
That was interesting. I didn't know there were that many different kinds of them. I have a stamp positioner by diamondpress. It's similar to a Misti, but a lot less expensive. I love the granny squares that you made! They're really cute!
Super-useful! While I don't have the Sizzix or the Stamp Wheel, I DO have the Gina-K wreath-builder stencils and several Concord & 9th turnabouts with jig. Seems Iike I am all set ;) I did just order a mini-Misti, for exactly the advantage you mentioned, stamping sentiments smaller than a card front. Love that granny-square stamp, BTW, so cute and cozy!
Love my MISTI...still have the original, but also bought the Mini for some reason. Turns out I reach for that little guy a lot! Resisted the MISTI in the beginning, BUT now can't imagine how I stamped without it! Not interested in anything else.
I agree with some of the comments that MISTI is too expensive & it's sad they are so aggressive in suing other companies. I still like it for the raised corners that contain cardstock and the foam base pad. Stampwheel seems to allow for smudging if I don't lift or drop the wheel plate evenly. Sizzle reminds me of the Tim Holtz product, which I have and use with a foam pad & clear grid sheet to get good results.
I think that every company has the right to protect their patent and charge what they think their product is worth. If people don't buy it because of the price (or any reason), then that company will have to change their strategy. I just wish that we didn't have to argue about it here. I agree with you that the Sizzix tool is similar to the Tim Holtz platforms, while being much bigger. Thanks so much for watching!
@@ardyth I love my time holtz one. I have that and the original misti. I use the tim holtz one bigger pieces as it doesn't have that raised edge on 2 sides but you do still have the corner. I like that the door comes off and that the hinge is so strong. I use either depending on whether the card will overhang or not and if I want the door off which I find helps with precision when colouring a stamp with markers rather than using an ink pad.

I've thought a few times about getting into the content-creator universe and that's one of the things that keeps me out of it. You're an angel for forging through!💗🇨🇦💗
Ardyth, i think you gave a fair comparison. I have 2 regular Misti’s, original and 2.0, plus a mini. I dont really do wreaths except for turnabouts. For me, there’s just no reason for another stamping tool. Did try the TH platform but found it too flimsy for stamping well. The Misti is solid and reliable IMHO.
I have got several stamp positioners too. I would have said what I didn't like about my first one, was there was no corner to butt against, and the next one, similar to the one everyone talks about (sorry I really do not like the company) but the mat kept slipping, hinge broke, then I got the Sizzix one, which I've had most success with, made me want to do more techniques. I couldn't resist the stampwheel, as I love wreaths, and the idea of the large lump of photopolymer for sticking and reverse stamping, plus I saw someone arc a sentiment (Seven Hills) and make a circle with it. And thank you for your video, you reminded me I can move the lid. I love them granny squares ❤
I have a full sized Tim Holtz from when they were sold in the States. Back then I used a 40 or 50 percent off coupon at a store. I have a Memory MISTI from when you could use coupons on the Hero Arts branded ones at Joann fabrics. I like the MISTI for clear stamps and the Tim Holtz for rubber stamps. For wreaths I love my Tond-Oh, but I am not sure if Katia Kalinine makes those anymore.
Good question and I will be part of the Catherine Pooler video hop on this tool next week. If I were starting fresh, I would buy the Stamp and Stencil Tool (you need to buy that if you don't already have it, for the Stamp and Spin to work) and Stamp and Spin tool, and I would use it as both a positioner and spin tool. Right now, I'm using the stamp and spin tool (with the stamp and stencil base) for everything and I'm loving it. That's a lot of words, and I hope they're clear - if not let me know and I'll do my best to help further! lol!
That's a great question! They both serve the purpose of holding the cardstock in place, and I think a regular sticky mat is probably cheaper, but I like the idea that the WF grip mat won't lose its stickiness and need to be replaced. It hasn't so far... lol! I did wear out a couple of my Brutus Monroe Stamp & Stick mats, but I loved them as well. Thanks for watching!
I’m wondering how the We R Makers Precision Press compares to these? That’s what I have and there are times when I’m using a stamp with very fine details and it seems the stamp does not stamp in *exactly* the same place. There is the tiniest amount of wiggle room - a fraction of a millimeter - but it’s noticeable with finely detailed stamps. Is this true for other stamping platforms as well?
Because Misti has the patent on the hinged stamp platform in the US, the other brands had to come up with something different. WRM Precision press is probably that has the most wiggle room.
I did have that one for a while, and I remember that about that tool. Definitely I have not had that issue with my 4 tools. I think the Sizzix one (with the moveable door) would be the one to most likely have a similar issue, but because of the size of that door, I rarely use it to stamp sentiments. Thanks for watching!
I have TH too, I had researched and made up my mind to get this one, only to have hopes dashed that it was discontinued! After a few months finally found one on ebay for $25 + shipping. I found I have to keep a piece of 'fun foam' under my card to get a good impression (I have it on the clear side), but I am beyond happy with it! I won't support the other company.
@@jeanpolkoski2107you have voiced my sentiments exactly! I found a “back up” from a British vendor when I heard they were no longer able to sell in the US I like it so much! Love that I can use odd sized paper in it easily and it’s a quick flip of the cover to change stamps to accommodate thickness variances. 🧑🏼🎨
@@Mari-cre8s So true! I love that it can be used for rubber and clear stamps too. I literally handle it with kid gloves knowing that I can't get another nor will I buy any of these. I can't believe how much they are.
I don't understand why no one talks about the Stampin' Up positioner. It's by far the best one I've ever used. Is it because it's sold through demonstrators? If so, that's a stupid reason to not include it in your comparison. You're not doing a real service to your viewers by leaving this out - but you're not the only one that ignores this amazing platform. EDIT - I'm NOT a demonstrator and I got it online used.
@@pattyh2410 I didn't know that, but I don't think it's the reason as I've been making cards for years and could have purchased it online at the time. I've never seen any card maker use it unless they were demonstrators. I just find that strange. I actually also have a Misti but don't use it. Must be a reason
LOL! I don't have a Stamparatus, but I know that there is a strong, loyal following for it (kinda makes me wish I had purchased it while it was available!) It had the two-door system, right? I bet that allows for some really cool techniques. I think the reason you will see only demonstrators using it is because that's how they make money (and at least at one point, they weren't allowed to use nonSU! stuff). And non-demos don't tend to use it because they can't make money on it. If I ever find one, I'll try it out and post an update to this video. Thanks for all the feedback and for watching!
I wonder how long will the Sizzix tool will be available. MSP will probably go after them like they have others that have, correction:HAD, a hinged stamp posititioner. Thanks.
@@turkey1528 Sorry, my point is that the Stamparatus is no longer available to purchase because MSP sued them for copyright - hinged stamp positioner. Even though it is vastly different the MSP tool. Again, wondering how long before MSP goes after Sizzix and forces them to cease selling them. Note how many other hinged stamp positioners are no longer available - Tim Holtz, WR Memory keepers, etc.
Thanks for watching! I'm going to leave the legal stuff to the companies involved and just enjoy the products I have that make my crafty life easier and more fun!

Thank you so much for this information!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks so much for watching!
OH, I have a Tond-Oh too! I forgot! I need to get it out! Thanks for watching!
@@ardyth I used a friend's wreath maker, but I find tbe tond-oh easier.
Ardyth I’m wondering which to buy the sizzix stamp and spin vs the Altenew stamp wheel for wreaths? What do you think
That's a lot of words, and I hope they're clear - if not let me know and I'll do my best to help further! lol!
Do you prefer the waffle flower grip mat rather than a regular sticky mat inside the Misti?
That's a great question! They both serve the purpose of holding the cardstock in place, and I think a regular sticky mat is probably cheaper, but I like the idea that the WF grip mat won't lose its stickiness and need to be replaced. It hasn't so far... lol! I did wear out a couple of my Brutus Monroe Stamp & Stick mats, but I loved them as well. Thanks for watching!
@@ardyth thank you for your comprehensive explanations and reviews!
Thanks 😊

I have just one, my Tim Holtz stamping platform. So much better and fairly priced. $30 for the large one. All of these are way over priced.
I had that one at one point too! Thanks for watching!
@@Mari-cre8s So true! I love that it can be used for rubber and clear stamps too. I literally handle it with kid gloves knowing that I can't get another nor will I buy any of these. I can't believe how much they are.
@@ardyth Do you like the Tim Holtz version?
I don't understand why no one talks about the Stampin' Up positioner. It's by far the best one I've ever used. Is it because it's sold through demonstrators? If so, that's a stupid reason to not include it in your comparison. You're not doing a real service to your viewers by leaving this out - but you're not the only one that ignores this amazing platform. EDIT - I'm NOT a demonstrator and I got it online used.
Maybe she just doesn't have it.
Oh, no! This is not just directed at Ardyth - I love her. It's just that I NEVER see these comparison videos using the one I have.
maybe because it is no longer available to purchase - new that is. Stampin Up was forced to cease selling it because MSP sued them.
Thanks.
Sizzix tool as well as Stampin' Up Stamparatus do have hinges, but they are different. They are not fixed hinges. They are one step further.
