    Hi friends! I hope you enjoy seeing a first in-depth look at the Altenew Stamp Wheel. I think it is an incredibly innovative stamp platform with so many possibilities for amazing stamping techniques. I customized a sticky mat with centering markings to make my Stamp Wheel work best for me, but I am sure accessories like it will be released very soon! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below! :)

      Hi Simon! I have been following you since a long time ago. First, It was adorable to see such a young kid into card making and after, as you were growing up, I was impressed about your entrepreneurial drive and all that you have accomplished at such a young age. Well, today I have to tell you that you got me impressed again and definitely you have gained my respect for the gracious way in which you have stated your honest opinion without putting down the brand, explaining what goes into the creation of a tool like this, not only the quality but, the creativity of the maker, just stating that in your specific case, it wouldn't be something you would be using everyday. On top you, you left very clear that you were asking your followers please not to say that it was overpriced because it was not what you said, and it's true, you didn't, you just stated a fact: it's pricey and you understand why and explained it to us. Way to go Simon, keep breaking a leg.

    Thanks to Simon’s demonstration, I clicked on his link and pre-purchased the Stampwheel. It arrived two days ago. It’s no secret to my crafting friends that I am the world’s worst stamper. I get more ink on me than my project. I am so very happy to report that I stamp like a pro with my new, and already much loved, Stampwheel. It is an amazing tool. I’m looking forward to trying my luck at stencils. I give the Stampwheell two ink free thumbs up. On a side note, we are so lucky to have Simon!
    Warm regards to you all, Greg

    The Stamperatus by Stampin Up won me over because I could use 2 lids and flip them for layering stamps, etc. This tool is even better and with the photo polymer base for stencils, I think it’s an even better value. Great job Altenew!

    • @cg2264
      @cg2264 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking! Having used and liked the Stamparatus very much, the Stamp Wheel improves on some of the limitations I’ve found in the Stamparatus. That said, my go-to tool for regular stamping is the Misti. Not because it’s better, but because I’ve used it so much that I don’t have to think about any steps- it’s fastest for me.

    • @carolmelancon
      @carolmelancon ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@cg2264 Very true. I'm fortunate that, over time, I have been able to get all three, and I think they all still have their uses. I love my mini Misti for quickly placing a sentiment or stamping a simple card. I bought extra plates for the Stamparatus so I can keep my two "handmade by" stamps permanently lined up on one plate (one centered for landscape and one for portrait). I also like having the extra plates for mass-producing Christmas cards with many different stamps in the design. I think I will especially like the Stampwheel that arrived a couple of days ago for wreaths and stenciling, though I believe Altenew replied to my query that they will also offer the flip plates separately so one can have extras.

    • @ellen-marie6692
      @ellen-marie6692 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly, I only learned about Stamparatus recently when there was another TH-camr’s video advising that it had been retired - I was very intrigued by the options of the two removable lids.

    If you factor in the cost of both the Misti stamp positioner AND the sticky mat, the price difference is not that different $83 vs. 100 for the Stampwheel. The photopolymer mat is a great idea & will be more durable than the sticky mats. The ability to rotate to create wreaths is also a plus. Well balanced review.

    • @CupAndInk
      @CupAndInk ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True… add in the special template for wreaths and they come out about the same.

    • @faithtester2217
      @faithtester2217 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lol my misti style stamp platform bought from crafts too cost £16 my mats about £8 for 5 from Ali express. £24 VS $100. However, if it could also replace your waffle flower blending mat and your gel plate it might look better value.

    • @CupAndInk

      @@faithtester2217 Ali Express steals designs, so of course they can sell it cheaper. My comment is in reference to buying it from legitimate sources.

      Yes! It’s helpful to be a crafter and also know a lot about behind the scenes manufacturing. It’s super pricey to manufacture something like this for a small company… so the price seems pretty justified. They aren’t trying to rip you off! :)

    Thank you Simon for your review. I have watched several videos but yours is the first that answered my question about how to use cling red rubber stamps with the wheel. I have been thinking long and hard about this tool because I have 3 other stamping devices and gave one I absolutely didn't like away. I especially appreciate the factual approach you took to justify the price point. Yes it is high, but manufacturing new products takes money. I hope that over time, when it isn't so new, Altenew will lower the price to pass savings on to the community. In the mean time I will always be a gadget lover and I think I deserve this addition to my inventory. It will add new techniques to my crafting.
    BTW Simon, I began watching your videos when you were quite new to TH-cam. I have watched you grow up on my big screen. Your skills and delivery have improved 100% and now you have your own product line! Congratulations on your success. Keep up the good work. I am old enough to be your grandma (70 last week) and I couldn't be more impressed if you were my own.

    I absolutely love what you said at the end. I don’t think I’ll be getting the tool right now, but kudos to Altenew for the work they put into this. I think with a few refinements (your suggestions were excellent) they can do well selling this and at least recoup their investment. And I bet their next tool will be even better. And so on. But we need companies like them to be innovating. You’re right, so thank you for that reminder. 😊

    • @lindame5238

      I agree, I think they should do the improvements Simon suggested. Magnetic and the marks for card placement would make it a much better product.

  • @craftingwithclass1
    @craftingwithclass1 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Thank you for the unbiased review and all the different testing. I think this tool will actually give the Misti a run for its money. She can’t sue Altenew because with the rotating lid and photopolymer mat, it is unique to anything else. I personally don’t care if it is magnetized bc the sticky mat would work best for my needs. I will definitely put this positioner in the queue. Maybe with your great recommendations, there will be a version 2 in the future 😂 Thank you Simon!

    • @TanBraeDesigns
      @TanBraeDesigns ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Ditto about Iliana suing! I think it was sucky that she actually won her suits. People have been using two picture frames for years before she came up with "her" idea.
      I much prefer the TH platform, but "may" consider this in the future - IF I can bring myself to pay that exorbitant price! Sorry, but I think it's way overpriced.

  • @tracylee4442
    @tracylee4442 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    They could also offer a replacement top for the multi stamping, in case you have more layers, like the we. R precision press. That way you could have two wheels going, to crank out those Christmas cards, without having to peel off the stamps to make room for another layer or sentiment.

  • @alisha-littleloopsquilling211
    @alisha-littleloopsquilling211 ปีที่แล้ว +68

    As another alternative to the sticky matt, maybe you could use the grid lines from the original packaging that was on the photopolymer square base to help line up card stock for red rubber stamps. Obviously, it won't be sticky, so using some spray adhesive or stencil glue could possibly work, and then that way, there is less plastic waste? I suppose it depends on how warped it is once it's been taken off the photopolymer square, but I think it would be worth exploring. Any thoughts? :)

      I ordered one yesterday for all the reasons described, plus the Misti + Wreath Builder by GK restricts cardstock sizes and this looks more generous and flexible for wreaths. Apologies to GK-I love all your products!!
      Why is there a grid in the packaging?

    In my opinion, you did an excellent job reviewing this product. That wheel looks a little bulky to use on a daily basis but I can see how it would be extremely handy when making multiples of the same card. And it appeared to be a really sweet tool when you made the wreath! The wheel/platform seems to be a combination of Altenew's turn about jig and a stamp platform. I agree, there needs to be something on the bottom with marks, measurements to ensure proper card and/or paper alignment. Because it was so obvious when you removed the photopolymer pad to use your red rubber stamp, I'm am genuinely surprised Altenew didn't notice it right off (no slam against Altenew intended). Your creation to solve that issue was great! Job well done as always Mr Simon!!! TFS

      I think it is good they left out a sticky grid. Now other retailers can create a grid or something to pair with it later. It would be an added expense, yes, but everyone crafts differently and maybe doesn't need it, so I like that they left it out.

    I think this would be a game changer for use with the concord & 9th turnabout stamps. I was not sold until I saw you stencil with it. Now I will be pre-ordering one. Your solution with the sticky mat spot on! I have been cutting and using those for years and find they work just as good as the ones that are on the market today made for that purpose. My hope is that Altenew will make some sort of clear contact plastic adhesive grid for the bottom of the platform. That would solve the grid issue which I think is a necessary option for something like this. In the interim I think a piece of Cricut gridded release paper (the kind you use with Cricut type vinyl)might do the trick and should be fairly easy to stick to the bottom of the platform.
    Like you I don’t think this will replace my Misti for everyday use but it definitely will come in handy for some applications. Thanks Simon for the honest review and all the tips and tricks.

  • @tinamarie2957

    Simon, Thanks so much for this video! I love my Altenew Stampwheel! I did exactly what you recommended but I used the grid that came attached to the sticky mat, I now have markings showing exactly where my A2 size card goes directly in the center, I'm really happy with that. I did cut out the corners of the Grid so that the mat would still stick to the bottom of the platform and it works great. What a wonderful tool to use especially for stamp layering and wreaths, like you showed us using your Pinstripe & Berries & Branches stamps. Even with the higher price range we all bit the bullet with our Misti and are now happy we did! I believe, with time This tool will be an investment to our craft!

    Thank you Simon for your candid review on the Stampwheel. I am pretty biased when it comes to Altenew products just as I am with Ranger products because I love them as a consumer. I bought the Stampwheel and adore it for many applications. One thing I wanted to address was the alignment where you put the custom grid in the middle (which was genius) however Altenew has already addressed that issue and is coming out with an alignment tool to use in the Stampwheel on the 11th of April. Thanks again for your candid review and I am a fan of you, your products, and the Altenew Stampwheel!

    Nicely done. I am seriously considering this tool. Your review helped a lot. As far as the price. I think it is very reasonable. My goodness. Everything is going up. I’m sure the materials cost more. All of the other stamping tools are pricey as well and I think they are worth it. This tool seems to be so versatile. Altenew is a fabulous company. Thanks again. Take care ❤️

    Hi Simon,
    My Stampwheel just came in, so I’m binge watching all of the videos reviewing the Stampwheel, so far I’m impressed. The quality is definitely very good and it will last a very l-o-n-g time. TYFS your opinion.

    This would be a good complement to my Stamparatus. The 7.5" base size is nice as it easily fits the standard rectangle and square card sizes. I agree that a centering grid of some kind is needed, which would be made better with marks for A2, 5x7, and 6x6 paper. I've never been able to line my C&9 turnabout stamps up nicely in my Stamparatus (all user error as I haven't broken down and bought their sticky jig). This would be great for those stamps! The price point seems fair for the product. It overlaps with some other tools on the market, but is distinct enough to consider buying. I like that there are 16 "positions" for rotating a stamp to add more dimension to a wreath. Thank you for the open-minded and comprehensive - yet concise - review, Simon!

    Thanks once again Simon, for a very informative video! I have pre-ordered the Stampwheel. I can see it being very useful for stencils for sure. I love your videos; always informative and fun. I've learned tons from watching you. I admit I've acquired nearly ALL of your stencils, clear stamps, rubber stamps, ink pads, and Lunar Paste in just a couple of months!! I think I need an intervention!!

    a few years back, we used to have a stamping wheel just the same, but without the sticky mat. That is what I am curious about. I wonder and doubt that it will remain sticky long enough without a protection of some sort. Just as everything sticky, it doesn't like air. Without replacing something to protect it, it will dry. I recommend to cover it with a clear window sheet, just as we do with our polymer stamps or with cricut mat, especially if you live in a very dry climate. The cricut mat is indeed a great idea to place underneath with the marking. It doesn't have to be cricut, any cheap mat will do.

    Thanks for the review and the editing. Now there are two options to rotate (ha, ha). Your comment about not commenting on the price is spot on. It’s negative and not helpful. Buyers can read and make there own decision. For the benefits I have purchased this wheel. I see it as so useful for large background that I have trouble getting solid color without a lot of repeat stamping. I thing applying the pressure is more even that the using the misti lid.

    That's a really innovative approach, using that scalloped edge so the whole top can come off. I love the way it can be rotated, and also that it sits completely flat for inking. (That's the one thing I find a little annoying about most stamping platforms, is trying to ink on something that's not quite flat.)
    But it looks like it would be a little tricky to fit back into the corners without your stamp hitting the paper surface before you're ready. Is there more of a gap there than we're able to see in the video?

    I have been following Altenew on the making of this tool. They have invested a lot of time & money to get it just right. I honestly don’t think it is anymore expensive than the Misti. This is going to be perfect for layering stamps, turnabout stamps, wreath builder, & large background stamps. I find background stamps hard to get a good stamping with the Misti & TH platform. A friend saw this & wanted it so that was my gift to her. Looking forward to what she does with it.
    Great review Simon. I plan on getting one myself sometime.

      I was watching Jennifer McGuire and saw her using it, but she didn’t do a review, just mentioned it (in that video.) I think it’s such a great idea so I went & pre-ordered mine. It’s supposed to be shipped 3/22. I have been looking for a stamping tool that I like better than my TH one, which honestly, I never became totally comfortable with due to what I think is a lack of cushiness and just a feeling of my own clumsiness with it. I kept wanting to love it, but never could. The StampingWheel looks to be what should work best for me, I think. At $100 bucks, my hopes are high and it’s an investment tool. I do believe it’s more expensive than the Misti, but looks to offer more versatility. I’m really looking forward to getting mine! 😊

    • @bertas-cards
      @bertas-cards ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nancyloomis3046 depends which size you get. My point is there is a lot of time & money spent bringing a new product to reality. Altenew won’t release a product until it is perfect & that is what I love about them.

    Just a suggestion, but rather than moving your cardstock to the different corners for the layering stamps, just rotate the clear wheel for each layer, after you line up and add the stamp layer onto the cardstock and pick it up with the wheel. Then you just have to turn the wheel from 12 to 3 to 6, etc (hope that makes sense. That would save you some effort. I preordered mine a couple of weeks ago, and am looking forward to playing with it. Thanks for your review! (Sorry, I wrote that before I saw the whole review). Love your idea with the sticky mat and the markings - genius!
