      @@carolynpicken6949 It depends, of course, on how much you use it. I would make cards at least 3X a week and it lasted for over 6 weeks. Then I put on a new one. The Contact paper is pretty sticky at first so I rubbed my hand on it to take down some of the stick.

      Me too, I have two of my three regular sized Mistis with those WaffleFlower sticky mats. And then I have the other regular Misti ready to go for rubber stamps. I also have one of their sticky mats for my mini Misti. I would love one for my scrapbook size Misti, but I probably couldn’t afford it.

  • @navoff1
    @navoff1 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

    And, of course, Waffle Flower is coming out with a bunch of photopolymer sticky mats in different sizes to fit the different sizes of Mistis and their stencil mats. They're also creating some grid mats to use with the sticky mats to help with alignment. I'm not sure when the official release date is for those, but they'd be less expensive than buying the full Stampwheel.
    But another use for the Stampwheel is being able to set up layering stamps or just multiple stamps for a card in different quadrants and on both sides. Useful for those who like to mass produce cards. You put the card in one corner, line up a stamp, then move to another corner and line up another stamp. You can line up to 8 stamps that way by using both sides of the wheel.

      @donnaokoniewski3 : My Sweet Petunia, designers and maker of the MISTIE, sued the knock-offs and copiers of her Mistie design. It makes total sense when you think about it. They had to make and design prototypes, take manufacture them in low enough quantities until the product caught on. Coming up with your own design and idea and making it is very expensive in the United States. Designers put in a lot of hard work and frown upon people copying their designs. Hence, lawsuits! That’s what the poster to your post was referring to and did not want you to get into trouble. Hope this helps!

Wish I would have been told that before I bought the Waffle Flower one - but, supporting a small company with the options of it being see-thru and having additional grids is a plus. The ONLY reason I would even consider the stamping wheel is for multi-step layering stamps. I thought it was much larger when they first presented it - it looked more 12x12 🤷‍♀️ I bet you could cut that mat down to fit “that other platform” (that I refuse to support) you’d just need to remove the foam pad 🤷‍♀️. Thanks Mary ❤️

      You're totally right! I only really paid attention to the size after reading your comment. It's only about 8x8. I had assumed 12x12, too. Not that 8x8 is bad...it's just important to know. Pulling the grid off the Altenew Stampwheel mat seems such a pity ... I'm sure I saw people using it with the grid on and under the mat.
    And here's one other thing: When new products - "game changers" - come out, I always do a general search, either via google or on the website of one or more of those Asian platforms. Not because I want to buy a piracy copy, but because the blending brushes have definitely taught me that crafting items were not necessarily "born" as crafting items! In the case of sticky mats, I found some mats for the car that are supposed to stop small items or even mobiles from sliding around. Now those are smallish, but work great for most of my card panels. Mine is a little over 10.5"x5 3/4". It is the stickiest thing since chewing gum under a desk, but without the hassle of getting it off. I think I paid the whooping amount of 3 Euros for it. And I'm totally in love with it!
    It's a good idea to put the protective covers back on after use so you don't have to wash (and dry ... tick tock tick tock ...) it too often.

    This was really helpful. I keep looking at that Stampwheel mat, but, like you said, it's kind of expensive. I tried the $ Tree sticky mat and it works pretty well, but I don't think the sticky lasted as long as I would've liked. Then I started to do the math and realized it was a better deal to get a pack of 3 12x12 Nicapa mats from Amazon and cut them down to fit my stamp positioner. I've also been using an old unbranded Silpat kind of mat for ink blending and smooshing. I think I got it on clearance at Walmart for $3. It holds my ink pads in place, too, which is a nice bonus. Yeah, Tim Holtz has one that is thin (and less expensive). It's designed to be cut up to use as you see fit. You can create different sizes for cardstock and to use as ink holders. He demoed it a few months ago. I think Jennifer McGuire also did a video on them. They recommended getting the Simon Says Stamp document holder to put your cut pieces in to store them.

      I use my Tim Holtz grip mats for lots of different things: inside my stamping platforms to hold the paper without worrying that the paper will stick; under items I'm using on my glass mat (ink pads, other sticky mats) so they don't shift, for stenciling, mixed media projects. I cut them to fit the task - stamp positioner size, card stock size, stencil size, ink pad size, whatever it is I want to stay in place without using adhesive. So far the only issue I can see is they MUST be kept clean so if you have issues with animal hair or excessive dust, you need to wash them to maintain their grip. I have six so far. It may be enough for now.

      Tim’s Grip Mat is still around. It was so popular they were out of stock but it was replenished and that’s when I got one and I love it!

    I feel like these expensive grip mats are just the same as a gel plate. And I want to use them to hold stencils. I can make my own large gel plate for under $15. What do you think?

    • @marypolancodesigns
      @marypolancodesigns  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Someone commented on another comment that they are not the same. That the gel plates are not sticky like this. NOt sure though.

    That is a clever tool but $99.00 is outrageous for a few pieces of plastic that probably are pretty inexpensive to produce. There may be a way to create your own wheel that would achieve the same thing for alot less. Those various sticky mats are nice to have. I have heard alot of good things about Sticky Grid by Ranger. They are fairly inexpensive and I think you get more than one sheet in a pack.

      A Gelli plate is softer and not as sticky. They are not interchangeable, from what I have seen elsewhere on TH-cam.

      Yes, you can but you have to be mindful of their thickness and the thickness of the cardstock that you are using.

      @navoff1 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You have to remove the photopolymer mat to use it with red rubber stamps. Maybe stick the red rubber stamp in the platform and tape your cardstock to the wheel? On the Altenew site, they said you may have to press a little harder to make up any difference in height.

    Since the grid sheet for the Stamp Wheel was removed, what is it for? (The two-handedness of the Stamp wheel doesn’t thrill me.) And thanks for the info and for making me laugh, as usual! I have to go back and remember what you said. You laughed too so my laughing was with you, not at you!

    • @marypolancodesigns

      I am guessing the tool is intended as a multi tool; stamp positioner, wreath builder and sticky mat.

    • @bethjeans3780
      @bethjeans3780 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@marypolancodesigns right, I agree. But how is the grid sheet used? Maybe how I use a small Simon grid sheet in a stamp positioner?
      Put stamps on the cardstock and pick them up with the top of the positioner. Place the grid sheet on the cardstock and stamp to see if you’ve lined things up how you want. Then remove grid sheet and stamp. (Or reposition stamps and try again.)

    Stamp wheel is way overpriced as is a lot of Altenew products. TH grip mat is nothing more than the silicone mats you can buy for hot gluing. Cut it up to whatever size you want. It holds ink pads in place but doesn’t hold cardstock all that well for stenciling.
