This was extremely helpful as a first time mom - especially the number of clothes! I was going out of my mind wondering how much I would need and what should I buy since the choices are endless! Thank you for this! Also would love a video of other baby stuff - what is necessary and what isn’t, quantity even perhaps nursery organization? Love your style and surprised you don’t have more subscribers so here’s a new one now! 😊
I'm so glad it was helpful! I remember the confusion when expecting my first. When are you due? I'm planning on making a newborn essentials video soon, I'm glad you are looking forward to it. I'll also be doing a hospital bag one next week, you might like that too. So happy to have you as a subscriber, thank you, I only started popping up videos a month and a half ago so hopefully the channel will grow.
@@danielleandreasen I’m due this September- so fall baby! 😊😊 yes a newborn essentials and hospital bag essentials are great ideas!! I think you could make it a series! Looking forward to it!!
most of the newborn essentials videos only talk about the items and brands of clothing but never really talk about how many pieces do we need, so this was really helpful! thanks!
I watched your video when I wasn't pregnant. Now I'm 16 weeks pregnant and entering the baby blue zone and searched crazily for this video. I'm so glad I found it. I am a minimalist and don't want to buy what I don't need. Thank you for sharing. You are a life saver
Great video. We were sort of minimalist and had about 6 x NB footed long sleeve sleepers, 6 x 0-3 footed long sleeve sleepers, 4 x 0-3 white singlets (but you're right they ride up so white body suits would've been better), 4 x 0-3 short sleeve rompers, 3 x 0-3 grey merino or cotton cardigans or kimono-style jerseys (so didn't have to put over his head), 2 x plain wool hats, 1 x plain sunhat (but mostly just kept him out of the sun), 1 x grey merino booties. No socks, pants/shorts. We had cloth nappies and didn't have leaking problems so didn't go through clothes too quickly.
A great minimalist list you have here. I think going through it currently with my new baby I could definitely have gone more minimalist. I forgot how quickly they grow out of newborn clothes. In a bit sad he doesn’t fit the cute tiny sleepers. We didn’t have much itch with cloth nappies, we tried with our first for a while but so math leaks and bad nappy rash
Thank you so much for this! I’m very cautious of not having too many unnecessary clothes (first baby), this really helped me confirm I was on the right track as I’m also naturally panicking I haven’t got enough. Just need to keep reminding myself that people buy baby clothes as gifts AND I can always buy more if needed when baby is here. I love that you put the list at the end of the video too, I’ve screen shot it! X
I’m only about two minutes into this video and this is already so helpful - the numbers, the different things to look for in each item. Expecting my first this December and trying to navigate all of this. Subscribed :)
Getting used or donated baby and or children a clothing from local groups and stores ( like you local Buy Nothing Project group) can always help with your wallet when it comes to saving $ on clothing but it’s good to avoid hoarding clothes as well :)
This is the best video I've found on the topic. Thanks for being so specific and explaining the varieties in each type of clothing (zips, clasps, kimono, etc.) I see you haven't posted any videos in a while and just wanted to let you know I'm so grateful for the videos you've posted and I'll be looking through them all as I prepare for babe!
First time mom here at 22 weeks. Just started preparing for the baby and this video was very helpful! Not to forget a couple of blankets, baby bath robes and some kind of flees outer-wear overall when bringing baby to the pediatrician in the winter and walking from the car to the parking lot or around the block. Although it's probably dangerous to keep the baby outside in the winter for more than mere 2 minutes...omg...I need to watch many, many more videos..I'll be fine though....😬
Fun to see others preferences! I found 14 complete outfits in 0-3 was more than enough. So we had 14 short sleeved vests (bodysuit) that were worn under everything at all times, it gave us 2 vest per day incase nappies leaked. 7 babygrows/sleepers/gowns. Then 7 bottoms, and 7 tops, some were just long sleeve t-shirts and others were long sleeve vests. I thought having 2 sets of crotch snaps on one outfit would be awkward but it actually wasn't. Then we had a couple of cardigans. Our climate is fairly miserable year round. Oh and we also had 5 vests and 5 babygrows in newborn but these were outgrown by time we got home from the hospital, I wouldn't buy that size again personally. We didn't have many leaky nappies or a pukey baby so it worked out great for us with only washing roughly once a week. I know everyone is not that lucky! We had way too many clothes in every other size, most went to the charity shop with tags on. People can be so generous with the baby gifts 🎁
2 mins into this video and I've subscribed to your channel. This video is exactly what I was looking for! Will stick to your guidelines for when I start shopping for my bubba xx
Thank you so muchfor this video! So many folks say "don't buy too much clothing, you'll never use it." But I'm such a minimalist already that I don't really think I was every at risk for that. I looked at my stash and I had 5 onesies, 2 kimono rompers, and a dress for the newborn size. Um.... not enough.
Same!! I keep wondering how much more do others buy that they feel the need to say that? I do laundry once a week, so at least 7 outfits but with babies a few extra outfits for blowouts or spit ups seems logical. 😅 It is just confusing when they say that, makes you think 7 outfits is over doing it which is obviously not the case. Besides there’s, sleepwear, play wear and depending on weather you may need other accessories. And I’m also speaking from a minimalistic perspective 😅 I think people who say that are probably people who spend too much already lol

This is so helpful thank you! I've been trawling youtube looking for a simple list of the basics with exactly how many you need with a newborn as we are on quite a strict budget and live abroad so unlikely to be able to receive many clothes as presents at least when he first arrives . I would LOVE you to do a newborn general essentials video at some point but I know you are busy with your new little one - congratulations! I'm due in November.
Aww congrats!! I’m a first time mom & I think Danielle explained things very well in this video.😊 I thought of you because I just made a video with affordable baby items on Amazon. Hope it might help you as you get closer to your due date!
I'm trying to make my registry and was stumped on what kind of clothes and how many to add (first time mom). This was super helpful. My baby will (hopefully) be born late summer, so these number suggestions are perfect for transitioning to colder weather

You can also go to thrift stores/garage sales for baby clothes! I got a lot of my intial clothes for 75 cents a piece at a garage sale, and got some more yesterday from a thrift shop for $1.50 each. Even though I'm only 13 weeks pregnant now, I'm really making sure to go to garage sales since there's a lot of garage sales in the summer, particularly now that I know the gender. (same with toys and books, I already have a good selection on the cheap).
Great question. I swaddled with a cloth swaddle (Stretchy one, I had about 3 I think). Turn into sleeping bags/sacks. I think get 2 light weight ones (TOG 1) and 2 thicker ones (TOG2.5). Depends in your climate, season, house.
Hey Jenny, I've had most luck with Baby Berry (best and less), Target and Bonds for fold over mittens and attached/fold over feet. I wonder if you can source those brands in NZ. Good luck
Hi, this is a great video! You should have more subscribers.!! Could you let us know which brand the clothes are from? Also how you would layer clothes in the winters? Outside temperature say 0 degrees and inside around 21 degrees.
Thanks 😀 I have really liked bonds cozysuits and Australian target and cotton on sleepers have been really good too. It’s tricky with the changing temperatures isn’t it. And also trying to cover for sun protection. If it’s cold I usually layer a bodysuit then this sleeper then thicker sleeper or jumper which can get taken off if warm and add a beanie/hat depending on the temperature
ok, I have a question! Do you put short sleeve bodies under the sleep suits? I was talking to my Mum and she thought that the zips or poppers on the sleepers might be uncomfortable against the baby's skin but I don't know! I'm due in November in Europe so he will be a winter baby.
How long are they typically in newborn size? I know it is different for each baby depending on their size when they are born but it makes it so difficult to plan! My first is due at the end of July. I'm wondering if he is going to be too hot in the long-sleeve sleepers with the feet attached?

That depends on how often you wash them. I don't like to wash clothes with a machine half empty plus when they spit up/have blowouts one can go thru 3 to 4 outfits in a single day. I rather have too much (that I can donate later) than feeling like it's not enough. There is enough stress to having a newborn already, I feel like I don't want to add the stress of frequent laundry and not enough clothes.

may I ask, how many swaddles, towels, hankie, bibs, do we need?
