I 100% agree with #1, Caira! I left my car behind with relatives that live close by to see how it would be without having a car. I didn't want to pay the additional $300-400 a month just for the garage parking space. Honestly, I only miss having my car to go grocery shop. Getting around Chicago is fairly easy.
We just moved to Lincoln Park and we decided to street park our Prius. Our catalytic converter was stolen a week after being here and we decided (after noting the expense of buying a new catalytic converter plus all the car expense you mentioned) it just wasn’t worth it! We are happy using CTA & walking 💖
Excellent video! Caira is amazing Leasing Agent. She just helped me to find a PHENOMENAL apartment near the Lake. Thanks again my dear and congratulations for your professionalism ☺️👏👏👏
Also- I’m so chatty but we took this moving advice and sold our furniture before we got here. And bought from Home Reserve! Thanks for that recommendation!
Love this video! We didn't have a car for the first 3 years we lived in Chicago, but got one at the start of the pandemic and have had the best time with it here! The city is so drivable and all of the street "green sign" parking is VERY cheap! Ubers have gotten so expensive recently too, so it's nice to fall back on. There's also a ton of free street parking in neighborhoods close to apartments, but yeah... the downtown parking garages are a killer!
Street parking is way cheaper than you mentioned! If you have zoned parking in your neighborhood, it’s only about $115 people per year. You do have to deal with street cleaning and digging out your car, but we love having a car to drive to the gym, grocery store, and to the burbs to see family.
Can you please do a video on finding a stable job in Chicago? A government job would be ideal. All I ever hear or read is how competitive the job market is there, especially if you’re moving there from another state.

Yes!!! I was only talking about garages!
If you don’t have a car you can save money on Ubers if you buy a basket to hold all your groceries on the bus and L
