      @@TimewithLivi I here ya. Chicago has a lot of diversity. You should consider Hyde Park on the south side or Edgewater on the north side. Both fantastic neighborhoods!! Welcome to Chicago!

    Thank you so much for this very helpful video! My wife and I are moving from Hong Kong to Chicago this summer and the criteria you used to judge neighborhoods mirrors our own. Diversity and easy access to the El / trains (since we won't have a car either) are top of our list and I'm curious if you'd recommend we consider any other neighborhoods beyond what you've included here. Thanks so much again!

    • @chismprism
      @chismprism  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Wow, welcome to the city. That is quite the move! The ones I listed are still my favorite overall but you could try looking into Gold Coast (it's higher-end/pricey but really nice and close to downtown) or even the West Loop area (beautiful, industrial feel, lots of restaurants) these areas don't need a car. Good luck on your journey guys!

    Not from Chicago but I only been there once and that was it which was last month. I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio where most people wouldn't bother you as much in Downtown areas but always be careful wherever you want. I love my state of Ohio but it could be brutal cold in the winter.

    Edison Park is arguably the safest & best neighborhood in Chicago. This is why all your city workers live there. Go as far north as you can afford would be my advice. Anyone who really knows the city will tell you that.

    • @chismprism
      @chismprism  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Those are nice! Just pricey because of the area. Personally, I like more of a smaller neighborhood feeling which you can find further from the concrete playground.

    • @Mateo-et3wl
      @Mateo-et3wl 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      These are 100% yuppie neighborhoods, insanely expensive, and crowded/noisy. If you're over 30, don't bother. River north also has the addes disadvantage of night clubs and lots of drive-by shootings. For the price, I'd say it's one of the worst deals in the city. Only plus is it's close to the loop and other stuff. The neighborhood itself is too crowded and hectic at this point

  • @MarkMonforti

    Like the video a lot, but the magnitude of double comparisons/redundancies is high. more older, more pricey, closer in proximity?
    And montrose is mispronounced. Glad to have you as a neighbor and welcome

    My bf is born and raised in wicker park (37). He tells me stories about how it used to be a “low income” neighborhood with a lot of violence and that it was a heavily Hispanic community. Around the early 2000s is when he started really seeing the gentrification of the neighborhood. Seeing it now, I refuse to believe him 😂

    • @chismprism
      @chismprism  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Lincolnwood & Park ridge is further than I've ever been so I don't know. Wicker and Rogers are much closer to the city and the things to look out for are pretty normal. Through a grapevine, I've heard of a carjacking story and scratchy areas at night you don't wanna be walking alone. It's still a city so just be smart. I've lived in Wicker and I was fine. I see families there all the time. Rogers does seem to have more homeless tho

      Many people are surprised how many parks, and forest preserves (land set aside which can’t be built on, is 13% of the entire county), the outskirts city neighborhoods are surrounded by acres of woods, and lots of parks too throughout city big and small. Lincoln Park (actual park) is massive and lots of trails, a zoo and more, can feel like not in city in many parts of the park. Almost all these areas are not where native Chicagoans (for most park) grow up, more post college areas where many live for few years and move after looking to buy or raise family. Of course, are exceptions, but younger people havens with lots of rentals and generally more expensive than farther out neighbors . Rogers Park (far north) and Albany Park (north/nw) are both on train lines are some of the most diverse neighborhoods in the entire US (if looking North specifically and diversity priority). The West portion of Logan Square in primarily Latino population.

    I’m saying this respectfully and not trying to pick a fight I swear. But how can Lakeview be dinged on diversity when it’s basically the gay capital of the Midwest? obviously, it’s very white, but isn’t there more to diversity than just skin color? very good video thanks for filming.

    • @chismprism
      @chismprism  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      That is a great point actually. Thanks for bring this up. Yes! I love North Halsted so much! There are a lot of people of all walks of life. That being said it's also named Boystown because you will see A LOT more white gay men here that anything else. They really rule the area and there is talk of a lack of representation of the other of the LBTQ people. Hence why the name Boystown has been dying off. Plus it's only like two streets and if you step a few blocks out it next to the frat-est mans mans area of Wrigley. Its all kinda funny.

    Lincoln Park is the BEST neighborhood in the city. I was born there in 55 (older than dirt) Lived there until 85, now Iive in Logan Square which is like LP but more diverse. 30 years ago LP was diverse. They got "whitened" along with "boys town" when the gays of "boys town" suddenly didn't like people of color any more in the 90s. The alderman over there TUNNY had a LOT to do with that process, he's not a friend of POC even though he does a good job of faking it when the cameras are on. I think him and brandon are butt buddies oddly bwdik. Anyway I HATE the snobbishness. Logan is much better. WAY more diverse. But LP has the infrastructure and proximity to the lake. Where we as a city need more diversity is in the south and west side bad neighborhoods. Good luck. No one wants to live with those people : ( Just like NO ONE wanted to live with the Appalachian whites who owned Lincoln Park until the city used "urban renewal" in 1965 to get rid of them. It worked! One day the neighborhood was filled with "greasers" and "hillbillys" the next day they were all gone. BOOM! NO BS look it up! I lived through and witnessed it all. Anyone who lived there back then would know where and what "Little Vietnam" was. Hint, OZ park covered part of it up ; ) Lost my virginity there in 69. Ya I know TMI! My apologies. Much love to one and all and GOD BLESS CHICAGO! You have a great channel. I like it very much. Great job! Enjoy!!!
