    Furnishing your apartment alittle bit at a time is the main advice I would give someone moving to a new city. The only three rooms that need to be ready are the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen cause those rooms what's needed to live basically, Everything else such as decorative items and living room furniture can wait. Another bit if advice is to take it slow. It's ok to spend time alone rather than go out. Being in a new city is exhilarating but at the same time traumatizing because you are in an unfamiliar environment that your mind has to process. In order for that to happen you have to approach life in a relaxed but active way. Of course you need to explore and learn the city but don't feel like you have to attend every event going on. You will completely fatigue yourself and that will lead to felling unhappy and overwhelmed in the city you moved to.

    Definitely needed the Sally scenario. Having lived in Boston for over ten years I’m all too familiar with spending more than half of my pay on rent.

    Can you talk about how to look for places and what kinds of things to look for in apartments? (for those of us that live in smaller cities without people like you to help us!)

    • @CairaButton
      @CairaButton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In smaller cities I would think Zillow or apartments.com would be a good place to start!! Depending how small maybe newspaper or Craigslist

    I’ve seen videos of people living in apartment buildings of people living in places like LA. They seem to have areas to pick up coffee. Snacks too (?). Maybe a place you can meet others in your building. Almost sounds like coffee and drinks are “free.” Do they have such areas in buildings you’ve seen in Chicago.

    • @CairaButton
      @CairaButton  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! A lot of those areas are still closed due to covid but normally yea!

    • @jow.2450
      @jow.2450 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CairaButton Very cool. They didn’t have those when I was apartment living. Are the coffee and snacks “free?” Love your content. Thanks for your reply.

    Moving to Portland, OR with my bf in a few months so these were great tips! We might need to try out Bumble BFF once we're up there. Would love some tips on negotiating with apartment complexes or talking pricing. Is that totally out of the question for leasing offices, or are they flexible with pricing?

    • @CairaButton
      @CairaButton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it’s a private landlord situation you can always try, but in the more professionally managed buildings they are locked in.

    thanks so much for this video :) seriously. as someone who's going to college soon, i've been trying to prepare by watching videos on moving out so i kinda know what to expect. question though, i really hope to move into my own apartment asap (which i know most people do post college), is there any advice you have in that area? even if it'd mean having roommates i'd just be happy living in my own space. thanks again :))

      So I got kybella not botox (I get a teeny tiny bit of botox between my brows but that’s it) but yeah I feel like it’s working! It needs another two weeks to go down and then I need to get a second round. Most people do 2-3 rounds
