How to clean and paint 4.8 5.3 6.0 LS ignition coils

I had a view request from David Fleck on how I clean up and paint round LS coils (with heat sink)
The easiest way I’ve found so far is to wire brush the coil (gently) and brush off any old dirt and rust, then blow it off with shop air.
Then, grab some painters tape, and carefully tape off the heat sink and electrical connector, plus the spark plug connector.
I use regular old rust paint and spray both sides liberally until it’s even but try not to make it run.
I’m a terrible painter and have no patience so mine probably won’t look as good as yours but hey, it looks better than rusty junk.

I did most everything you did in the video. But last summer when I painted my coils I didn’t listen to the part where you said don’t drop them. 🙄 so I have 1 new coil and 7 2005 GMC 5.3 OEM coils. 👍✌️

Until I did a pull and the check engine light started to flash at 6500 lol

@@StationroadRatrods Umm one set taped off and cleaned along with bracket. Got one of these Milwaukee M12 right angle die grinder on a wire whell. it works slick.
Deadly! I bet that made quick work of any dirt/rust.

I love the way the ls engines run, but they look like such a bunch of gobbley goop. Maybe i'll paint my coils a luminous shiney green?

How did you test if they are good?
I didn’t, I just bolt ‘em on and do burnouts. If I get a miss, plug the scan tool in and replace the bad one. They don’t go bad very often, but they’re usually pretty easy to diagnose if they do.

Soooo basically an adult slammed a child like a rag doll and triple stomped like a 5 year old on his head and I literally said I’d do the same thing he did to the child, but to him, and that was against community standards. 😑
So having morals and saying what the bad guy deserves, it’s against community standards, and it wasn’t ultra violent of full of curse words. Just that’d I’d stomp him, whoever out if I seen that.
