Inside the Multi-Billion Dollar Abandoned Tourism city of Nigeria

  • In today's video, I visited cross river state, a state once considered the tourism capital of Nigeria, known for having the biggest street party in Africa, the highest-paid mountain race, the popular Obudu cattle Ranch, and the Tinapa Business and leisure resort. Fast forward to 2022, the town is now an abandoned city mainly due to corruption and lack of vision. In today's video, we toured the city and asked questions about why the tourism capital of Nigeria is fading.

The problem of Nigeria is subjugation not corruption. Everything is controlled from the center. The North (Hausa/Fulani) controls the center. They will never allow the South benefit from its own resources. Southern Nigeria is an open air concentration camp. Sadly many cannot see it.

Yeah, that's correct. The truth of the matter is that everybody is now involved in the corruption, even down to the man selling garri in the open market. Just recently I tried to search for NIN and the clerical officer insisted that I must give him 10,000 bribe before he would do his job. The whole country has become one cesspit of corruption and brigandage. Everyone is involved but all pointing the accusing finger on the other.

This broke my heart. In my entire life, I have never ever wanted or desired to visit Nigeria because to me as a West African, we live under the same circumstances so there’s really nothing different to see, but this video showed me so much that I desired to go and experience the tourism village, except as usual, it has been shut down. As I said, we all live under the same circumstances. Less than 30 minutes from where I live is a gorgeous park with a dancing fountain that rivaled that in Dubai. People travelled from other parts of the country to come and see it, and now, it’s shut down. We deserve better! Our hard earned money in the form of taxes are used to build these beautiful edifices. And they are just allowed to be run down. The place is so beautiful, Steven. The view from the drone is breathtaking. I’m sad. Just sad. Will things ever change? It’s disheartening.

I remember the fond memories I created in this state while enjoying Tinapa and Marina resort in their glory and shed a tear, this is heartbreaking. The state is truly a shadow of itself, telling the tales of lost glory due to corrupt and lack of visionary leadership. Ha! Nigeria 🇳🇬

My former colleagues and I stayed at the Amber Hotel in the Tinapa resort in 2010 and we all felt it was a fantastic project. The luxury mall is so big, but at that time, was grossly under utilised.
I reckon Mo Abudu used the Tinapa Studios at some point in time for her EbonyLife TV. The whole place was so cool back then. With what I see in this video, it's APPALLING how that project was allowed to die. Like one of your interviewees rightly said, "government has no business in business."
I watch TH-cam videos everyday featuring Thailand and it's amazing what they've done with their tourism. I'm sorry, Nigeria is just a wasted land and I feel so damn ashamed being a Nigerian.

In Nigeria government control everything that generates huge profit, even if an entrepreneur started it company, government will find ways to introduce itself into it or frustrate the entrepreneur/company. Majority of Nigerians believe government and God must do everything for them, they are mentally lazy and insensitive to creating, innovation, and maintenance culture is zero. They are in God will help us state of mind at all time, they discourages their family members residing aboard from coming back to invest. That region of Nigeria, Cross River and Akwa Ibom people are waiting for Jesus Christ to solve their problems, if a pastor says to them, nothing will change for your betterment in Jesus Christ Name, 90% of them will unanimously agree and say "AMEN ".

Seriously, we could have one of the highest GDPs in the world if all that money remained in Nigeria and wasnt sent to Dubai, US, Uk etc. Nigerians fuel others economy and it is shameful to hear that a place like Calabar doesn't have light for one month
