    Hi AvAngel, you should get the toolbar-pushback mod for MSFS, works wonder with floats planes. You can push in many direction just like if you were pushing the plane from the docks. Cheers!

    • @GilbMLRS
      @GilbMLRS 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And with the speed slider you can simulate the slow floating toward the dock. Sliding it to zero and leave it in Pushback mode and you stay stationary in all dimensions, wonderful addon. It only needs an option to set "0" for the standard pushback speed when you click Forward or Back, else an accident is likely to occur when it suddenly shoots back- or forward.

    Another awesome vid. I generally only fly military stuff because I'm a bloke, who doesn't have any emotions and never cries.
    I have, however, very much enjoyed the beaver and got some great tips from this.
    I did once cry, when optimus prime died, in the movie, but he came back to life and I vowed to never cry again. Honestly.

    Way to overcome the conditions, that was brilliant flying. When the supplies absolutely have to get through, you can count on AvAngel to get them there.

    I recently had a flight from Ketchikan to Wrangell and Wrangell Island is constantly shrouded in the thick soup. Especially the channel between Wrangell and Etolin Island. I had no GPS equipped so I intercepted a Radial from Level Island VOR and then headed for the Wrangell ILS. Within the last mile or so the airport came into view it was the first time I was able to see anything again after a few clear spots between Mitkof and Zarembo Islands. Which were of no use of course except for marking the "hard boundaries" of the radial lol. I sat there lips clenched dead serious and after touchdown a bick rock fell from my shoulder, that was tense. Especially because I play with Air Hauler. After landing I saw in AH that I forgot my payload in Ketchikan.
    My settings for cruise are 28/1800. Makes it comfortably quiet. This plane is wonderful. Came just right for my vacation so I sit in it all day lol.

    I got that new plane itch, went shopping and picked up the SWS Floatiak. I already had the Kodiak. And WOW, that really makes it a complete package.
    So now I am jumping between the classic Beaver and the ultra Modern Kodiak. And every time I switch, I am thrilled to fly the new plane.
    So different from each other, but so similar.
    Anyway, this Beaver got me looking for something else that did this type of thing and I ended up falling in love with the Kodiak all over again. The best of two eras.

    Frozen lakes and snow cover are based on the Live Weather data ... not the date. Unfortunately MSFS uses low resolution snow cover data that extends way too much into the valleys in situation when it should only be on the mountain tops. And the amount of frozen lakes and even frozen oceans is completely bogus too. As far as snow coverage goes, live weather is unusable in colder mountainous terrain like that.

    Ah, I can help with you hating the water in MSFS. Along side the Goose, the Beaver on floats is one of the more accurate planes we have with regards to water handling.
    I'm sure you're used to just holding back on the stick/yoke to keep the tail stuck as long as possible. On floats they have what's called a critical angle. Once up on the step (high speed), you want to find that happy spot between too much nose up and too much nose down. Too much nose down and the bow of the floats will bounce off the water. Too much nose up and the tails of the floats will drag/bounce off the water (as you had in this video with your first takeoff).
    In this Beaver, I recommend a different technique from what you're used to. Hold full back as you apply power. Once it's up on step (which you'll feel with a little hop up), ease off on that back pressure. With neutral trim you may even need a touch of forward pressure. You'll find that happy spot and it'll feel like it's balancing on a single spot on the floats (which, in effect, it is). Done correctly, you'll have no bouncing or jittering. Hold that critical angle until you're at flying speed then gently pull up to take off.
    This doesn't come easy or intuitively but do some high speed taxiing to get used to it. Once at a high-ish speed (~40 knots) on the water, try pushing forward a bit and see what it does. Conversely try pulling back too much and see what it does. That happy spot is dead in the middle of those. It's exactly how my instructor taught me way back when.
    I hope that helps!

    • @AvAngel
      @AvAngel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats exactly what I'm doing. The real world technique does work somewhat, but the sim tends to make you skip like a pebble regardless at times... especially with wind. Problem here was fighting a crosswind at the same time, which isn't ideal for float work.

    • @canadiancaptainmoustache
      @canadiancaptainmoustache 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AvAngel Practice practice practice, is all I can say. I've done several crosswind takeoffs in the MSFS Beaver on floats and when you find that angle, it's absolutely delightful. However, it's absolutely razor-thin. Good luck!

    • @AvAngel
      @AvAngel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, mostly due to water depth being about 2ft in the sim, critical angle on the step is extremely fine. The BR Goose is somehow perfect though, that baby gets up on the step and glides!

    • @canadiancaptainmoustache
      @canadiancaptainmoustache 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AvAngel On step it doesn't take 2 feet. But regardless, it's about as fine as the 180 on Edos or the 185 on Wiplines I've flown. The Edos, being longer, were around +/- 1 degree and the Wiplines were maybe 1.5.

    • @RATTMAN
      @RATTMAN 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was going to say I’ve been practicing a lot on the Beaver. I don’t pull to hard on yoke. I let it take off on its own before I pull for a climb. It floats right off the water smoothly. BR Goose is similar. The SeaRey seems to have the best characteristics.

  • @roberthemingway7691
    @roberthemingway7691 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Angel, where can I get those seaplane bases? On the Xbox they don’t seem to be available. When I looked up Bell Island on the SIM and in the marketplace there was nothing so is it an independent developer that doesn’t have his seaplane bases on the marketplace? I really love those sceneries and the dock area is so detailed and immersive!!!
    Great work again, and I love your scenarios.
    You might want to consider Southport Flying Club in Australia. YSPT.
    I did a “run” there. Two fold mission.
    Take parts for a Restoration of a Spitfire being carried out by a gentleman in one of the only open hangers. And the other part of the mission was to take the Kodiak and actually pick up an Sick kangaroo at the end of the airfield on approach. I found the guy doing the restoration and was able to “deliver” the parts, but that damn kangaroo just wouldn’t jump into the Kodiak.
    I had the doors open and some treats but the kangaroo just not in the mood to be flown out………!!!

    Stupid question: would like Orbx "Alaska mesh" help with the scenery?

    • @NoticalMyles
      @NoticalMyles 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of the Orbx meshes really enhance the scenery detail, but the Alaska mesh isn't really worth the extra drive space or money. It's not much more detailed than standard scenery, if at all. Some people say it helps the scenery LOD at distances, but I haven't noticed much of a difference.

    • @AvAngel

    You could have changed the weather when you tried to mid-flight, but you didn't switch off the Live Weather option, so switching the month had no effect.
    Anyway, a risky but fun flight. You should have put a "don't try this at home" disclaimer at the beginning of the video :-)

    • @eKalb33
      @eKalb33 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm pretty sure she wanted to keep the current conditions as far as clouds/precipitation, but wanted the lakes to be thawed. However, the ice is tied to temperature, not time of year. It would be nice if when you turned off live weather, it kept the current settings for all fields, which you could then alter to your heart's content. Then she could have turned off live weather, and raised the temperature, but keep the cloud conditions. It would also let you be able to save presets when you find some nice live weather conditions.
