So I decided to jump on one of the much-talked-about "AvAngel Air Tours" and this was how it went.
As I boarded I did wonder was I was sitting behing a bunch of cargo boxes but hey, I didn't think any more of it.
I was a little concerned when the pilot didn't seem to be sure of our route West or East.
My ears perked up when I heard:
"I hope we go through rain so I can use my wipers"; and
"Also the weather is too much for this plane but we going anyway!"
I tried to put this in the back of my mind as we taxied to the runway...I settled in the comfy seats as we redied for for takeoff, clutching my free bag of AvAngel Airways cashew nuts!
As we rolled out my Cashew nuts flew all around the cabin as we yawed like Tom Cruise dodging a missile, or Tom Jones on the dance floor!
Or maybe Tommy Texes at a rodeo.
My nuts did'nt make it my mouth, most were now deposited around the cabin.
Things settled in for the flight as I started to consider what to drink from a small cabinet of drinks on board.
At times certain plane functions seemed to not work or it was as if the baggage handler at the airport was flying? 🛄
I decided on a Martini which was already shaken of course. 🍸
The lack of a cockpit door took it's toll, as "Spicy, Spicy Meatball, Oh my God" rang out beyond the cargo boxes in front of me.
I looked for views out the window as we passed a mountain where several mountain sheep🐑 looked down on me , the sheep seemed to have an expression as if to say "you're not from around here are you?" 🤦‍♂️
When the pilot just stated that only cargo was onboard I did feel rather alone.
I reached for a Cigar but suddenly the non-smoking and seatbelts signs came on - although by now I had tied myself to the seat.
Reaching for my newspaper was a bad choice as it was like trying to read the Lord of the Rings whilst on a rollar coaster at Alton Towers.
We approached the airport for landing and buzzed the airstrip at a height that allowed me to see few faces in the crowd making the sign of the cross as we passed by.
We made the 2nd approach and the words "Yolo" rang out - some kind of ATC/plane code I suspect?
By now I was wearing my Martini, my cashews were all rolling around the cabin, as I tried to fumble around to find the landing card airline feedback form.
As we appraoched "I'm going to die in a ball of fire" was concerning 😂 Although the landing touchdown was ok.
I tried to fill out the landing form but for some reason my hand was shaking so much I couldn't hold my pen to write. I untied myself from the seat and headed for the gate, to find a bigger stiff drink and take someting to calm me down.
    -----
AvAngel - thanks, I laughed and enjoyed this "Spicy" flight so much - put a smile on my face, thanks for not editing and hopefully no sheep were hurt in the making of this video!
P.S. Was the tail wheel locked for takefoff? We nearly all became Angels on that one.

Back in the late1970's we flew around the Caribbean in our Beech 18, mostly to Puerto Rico and Santo Domingo from St. Croix USVI. The bumpy wiggling of the aircraft reminded me that this is just the way these planes handle in certain types of weather, and you must be easy on the brakes when landing. You have convinced me to buy this aircraft for the sim and give it a go! Excellent Video, and love how you are there "in the moment with every word you say!"

There some sorta glitch in the engine selector where you have to toggle it back in the forth just to get it to actually select the engine. Something else I noticed, is that on the Xbox version the Starter and Fuel Pump buttons are indicated as on/off switches. I noticed yours just shows Start Button which could be causing some confusion. If its already in the off position pressing to turn on the right engine will work but pressing it again to turn on the left engine won't work because you've just turned it off again. The same with the fuel pump.

Seems like you got the same bug I get, maybe. Where any sort of crosswind rips the plane around into the wind, it happens on any plane with me and nearly any sport of crosswind beyond half a dozen knots. Some departures I need near full rudder to keep straight down a runway (even taxiways at times). But once you’re up in the air its perfectly fine again, its just one the ground… apparently it is a known bug, but damn I want it fixed. It seems like the sim applies higher level winds at ground level. The wind you had here was another level though, crazy strong!

Thing is, there's more drag from the props at low power than feathered where there's LESS drag.

Never fly downwind of a mountain peak. There you can expect nasty turbulence and rotors, that can and do bring down aircraft.

    • @AvAngel
      @AvAngel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah, sometimes theres no choice though with terrain, but here, I could have just gone around but I wanted to see some spice and not just have a boring level flight :D I was not disapointed.

@@AvAngel That was indeed spicy. I don't even dare to imagine how my little low wing LSA would fare in such weather. But who knows, maybe someday someone will implement it in MSFS

MSFS2020 does not handle tail dragers real well. I don't think much of takeoff problems were you but more likely the sim.

I AM FLYING THE B18 on XBox..all the switches..you move the mouse left and the switch goes to the right..everything on the plane is Backwards. I would not be surprised if it flew backwards. lol..The autopilot is iffy too. If all you do are 5 to 10 flights you are ok. but I fly for 2 hours or more at a time.. I love the B18. but I would NEVERv recommend
    meant this to anyone.

....... Deliberate asymetric power on approach....... *checks book* No..... that doesn't seem to be exactly....... by the book....... I like it! *scribbles a note in the book*
Also.... please please please never say "I'm going to die in a ball of fire" on s PAX flight....... glad you only had cargo on or there coulda been a riot in the back lol.

    • @AvAngel
      @AvAngel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I mean, I use asymetric power quite a bit in twins, helps turning and sometimes for forcing a crab more like that in strong winds it can help overcome a weak rudder.

the plane is erratic and not intuitive, to go up with the autopilot you push the switch to down. i would not be surprised if the tail lock is reversed too off is on and on is off. and then there is the brake..geese louise

beautifully horrible takeoff. Hey, this is why we make mistakes in the simulator (so we can learn from them and not do them in real life). Subscribed
