Coming from sole old Metcon Free X I think v3s, the 9s are a massive improvement. Such a solid ground connection in comparison, and the sole grip is immense. A much better fit for me, locked in, and for the range of lifts and exercise I’ve done so far, I really like them. What a difference for deadlifts and similar.
Killer work as always, Joel! 🔥🔥 I'm gonna pass on these as Im not a big fan of the design and I have some metcon 7s... looking forward for the 1st impressions vid on the x3 froning tho! Thanks and take care!
Thank you for the thorough review. I have the Metcon 7s and they are great. I didn’t see any noticeable improvements from the 7 to 8 other than the shoe lace holder but I just double knot. The weight isn’t an issue for me I’m looking for a training shoe vs running shoe. I’ll definitely be copping a pair.
One note on price, there are 3 colors that are on sale for $119 right now and you can get an additional 20% off which brought them down to $95 for me. These are perfect as I needed something that is wider and the 9's are it for me. I also needed something more stable than my running shoes.
Just picked up a pair. Only $159 Cdn at SportChek which is $30 less than anywhere else I've seen. Was torn between the 8 and 9 but liked the width in the 9. Heel did feel like it slipped more than the 8 in store, hoping it isn't bad. Tried on x3's but I'm between sizes on those and they just don't feel right. Have Nano 2s for plyo days anyways.
Thanks for all the work you do. Saving people money is important these days. Will you be doing a review of the Froning X3? They've released here in UK but don't seem to be anywhere else?
Joel answered a question about the top 3 shoes of 2023 so far on his IG stories and the ranking was x3, dropset 2 and metcon9. So I'm guessing x3 is just superior, since they are plenty stable, less clunky to run in, and durability seems to be better.
@@rycohen22 pretty much got it there. Nano x3 suffer from the same downsides, just not as bad. Both suck to run in, but at least x3 are lighter. Lifting is generally more stable in x3 besides deadlifts which I’d prefer the lower drop. Metcon 9 have the edge in rope climbs but not by much. X3 are also cheaper, and imo look better.
@@AMRAP thank you! I had to sell the legacy 2’s after a few months. Luckily I found a really good pair of rom 2’s for $100 as their replacement. They have to be the most comfortable lifter ever!
The biggest problem: 9 is way too ugly. Metcon 4 = Great Metcon 5 = ok Metcon 6 = ok Metcon 7 = i just dont like it, but many ppl like 7 Metcon 8 = ugly Metcon 9 = very ugly. it's so ugly that 8 seems better in front of 9. maybe some monster just controled the designer.
Just did my first workout in these. Lifts feel great, better than any trainer I've used recently (Nano 2, no bull classic). But..... They are so hot. My feet are uncomfortably cooking in these shoes.
This channel is the definitive authority on X-training shoes. Fantastic review. Thanks brother!
I appreciate that!

Just got the 9s today because if this! I was gonna go Nanos but I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in and they were 120
Found these at dicks for $75 today

What shoes were more comfortable and stable for squats? Recommendations would help!
Thank you! Superb review! Man! You can really lift! 👏

I just got them today so I'll have first impressions soon!
Joel is a silent beastmode!
How would you compare these to the Metcon Sports for lifting weights?
fantastic review
Great Review. Thank you so much bro.
Do Nano x3 vs Metcon 9

joel, ive had REEBOK NANO 9s since late 2019 (just about 3 years now) is it time to switch out to these METCON 9s?
Wouldn’t be a bad switch - they’re gonna feel heavier but just as stable, maybe more.
ayoo brah does this have the same sizing as metcon 7? like true to size or do i have to go down my real size because it’s bulky?
My problem with metcons is thst they're not flexible. They're terrible to run in so if I go from lifting to cardio I really need another shoe
Miss the metcon 6
In regards to the high arch, I found the arch on the legacy lifter 2 uncomfortably high. How does the 9 compare to the arch on the legacy 2’s?
That arch is BRUTAL, this is no where near as bad. Like not even half as bad especially since it’s mainly cushioned.

I love powerlifting in these shoes
which is more confortable for hiit? metcon 9 or 5?
5
The biggest problem: 9 is way too ugly.
Metcon 4 = Great
Metcon 5 = ok
Metcon 6 = ok
Metcon 7 = i just dont like it, but many ppl like 7
Metcon 8 = ugly
Metcon 9 = very ugly. it's so ugly that 8 seems better in front of 9. maybe some monster just controled the designer.
The only decent colorway is the AMP in the bone
Tend to agree with the ugly comment
I don't like that piece on the side... that's what makes it ugly
Best gym shoes
Heavier, more expensive, still not great for running, not the best for squats, BUT great for rope climbs 🎉
Just did my first workout in these. Lifts feel great, better than any trainer I've used recently (Nano 2, no bull classic). But..... They are so hot. My feet are uncomfortably cooking in these shoes.
Glad it wasn't just me that thought they were hot.
@@AMRAP the only shoe I've had that felt this hot are my Nano x
What are the best socks to wear with these shoes?
I’m not usually picky with socks but I gravitate towards stance, sharpen the axe, lifting culture, Brooks, ten thousand.
These shoes hurt my ankles man
Got a pair on clearance for $50 at Dicks.
the shoe weighs a ton son!
mine were made by slaves in Thailand
