That is the most athletic squirrel l have ever seen. And his capacity for affection is splendid. I am not surprised that he is smart or loving. On a smaller scale l too have my squirrel stories.

This had me Googling the life expectancy of squirrels lol. Sounds like, in captivity, they can live up to 20 years. Longer than dogs and most cats. That made me happy to think of these two having each other for that long.
I was just about to Google it myself. So many squirrels are killed by cars, rat poison, traps, and dogs. I hope Peanut AND Chloe live a full 20!
@@olcarewe3530 Exactly. That’s why I made sure to specify “in captivity”. In the wild it’s more like 5-7 years. QUITE the difference!

I've slowly taught a squirrel at my apartment complex to come sit in my lap and eat out of my hand. Everybody thinks i'm a nutter, lol. Squirrels are so damn cute, it's worth it

I have a grey (a little invader from the US) that visits my garden and feeds from my hand, he charges towards me like a pup when he sees me. I will sit on the step when the weather is bad and he will shelter behind my legs when he eats as well.
They are remarkably bold, curious and friendly creatures.
careful first it's a few nuts out of the palm of your hand. then next thing you know you're giving a couple false directions, so they end up driving off of a cliff. all because that didn't want to buy your roadside squirrels

Peanut is so cute and I love how dad took care of him and tried to release him but peanut came back and dad still gives him an open door policy. I drive a lot for my job and I see squirrels trying to cross the roads so I talk to them to help them out of harms way.
I'm at a nursing home and we enjoyed feeding them and the 🐔 birds, now the staff told us to stop! We fed them in the back they were not in there way! It breaks my heart ❤️ so much some

It probably depends on where you live. Where I am in northern Illinois, they aren't common at all, but they also aren't rare. I know of maybe 3 that live in neighborhoods around me
Most are black where I live but we have a moderate amount of greys and rarely I see reds
That's a pretty rare squirrel if I'm not mistaken. Excellent job keeping that awesome little guy safe. It is absolutely a joy to see this kind of humanity in its pure form. We come from nature and are animals that have evolved. The importance of communing with the other species on this planet is not only entertaining and heart warming, but it is true to our nature and beneficial in so many ways. Examples like this are a perfect reminder that our coinhabitants learn so instinctually through emotional connection. Who knows how they could surprise us if we all learn a lil to treat them better.
Ive had 2 friend squuirrels, its amazing how smart and cuddly and vocal they are,
...and hilarious. The squirrels that hang around my house are total tricksters and I swear are always trying to make me laugh. There's one that, no lie, will look me straight in the eyes waiting till I throw a peanut, and then will PRETEND to look for it and not be able to find it, even though it's like eight inches away from him. Over and over I've interacted with this guy and observed him, so I know it's not a vision or smell thing. He's just a little con artist!

There is still a few or us left.
My mumma feeds birds and squirrels in our garden. And they follow her in the daylight if she goes outside our house,they literally call their mates for the meal whenever she feeds them and they sing to her whenever they're hungry . Its such a joy that she has befriended them and now they aren't afraid of me and my dad.
You can tell when someone really loves something/someone because they don’t worry about germs, at all.
And when the animal need to be saved, something tell me, this wholesome guy was educated in his childhood about the importance of caring for animals.
Which is something i see more than years ago.

It's wonderful how you treat your squirrel. They are great. I once saved a squirrel also. I found him on his back and bleeding, not alot, but still, he was hurt.
I put a hand towel around him and bought him home.
I had an empty shoe box so I put hand towels at the bottom and left one to cover him with at night.
I served him sweet potatoes and bananas. As he was hurt around the mouth I cooked the sweet potatoes and bananas he ate fresh. He loved them.
I also gave him water with a nose dropper. The first time he took the water, he just kept drinking what felt like a forever time.
Eventually and slowly he started to eat peanuts.
It was heartbreaking letting him go. I've seen him only once since than. But by now he must have his own family. Still miss him.
Love this. Animals, even wild animals, who encounter love are smart enough to know it's love. And this just personifies that :-) Love it.

Squirrels are awesome. I had a rescue that rescued me too . They're smart and sweet and they love to play.
When I was a teenager I saved 3 baby squirrels, 2 blacks & 1 gray. They were the best pets ever, we had them for like a year and then we sent them free in the woods behind our house. They came back a few times but then they totally went wild. That was over 45 years ago, and I still think of them and how fun they were.

I have a pet squirrel I rescued and she’s the best animal friend I’ve ever had. She helps me on my depressed days with her spunky goofy attitude. Cutest thing ever lol. She loves to wrestle with me she rolls on her back like a dog while I get her belly and she wrestles my fingers 😂
