Had a blowout tonight after midnight on a dark highway in nj. Found your video while on the side of the road. You got me home, brother, I cannot thank you enough!!
I recently purchased a used 2019 Colorado. I accidently discovered the jack stand, in bubble, between rear seats, and that rose the question where the tools etc., were. I searched the internet, thought I'd need to purchase them when I watched your timely video and discovered said tools, under the passenger's seat. saved me a few $$, much appreciated.
This helped a lot man! Cause I was completely lost on what to do I didn’t even know that was what was under the seat! Thanks so much you saved me from messing it up cause I was gone cut it of I couldn’t figure it out!

Great video, thank you! On my 2018 GMC Canyon, the OPEN SQUARE end of the rod goes into the release hole. For anyone else having trouble lowering the spare, the other ends besides that one do not work.
I’m researching what to buy because I found that the tool pouch was never replaced in my Colorado. Bought it used but had no idea how to get my spare lowered. My s10 is also missing it’s tool kit which is weird because I’ve been the only owner. The only thing I can think of is the mechanic shop that last checked the spare didn’t put it back. Thanks for the visual and help kind stranger.
How do i know when the chisel tool meets where it needs to meet to release the tire? I’ve entered the tunnel as far as I can go, it feels like I make a connection but when i begin cranking the arm, all I hear is clicking and no movement of the tire. Hopefully you can help. Thanks! Great video though.
It could be that the tire is kinda stuck up there from being up against the top for so long..do u notice the cable begin to lower at all? If u notice the cable come down without the tire you may wanna get cable up enough so the tire doesnt suddenly drop..and tap it around the tire to free it up
Backyard Chevy thank you. We were lucky to be able to fill our tire and get to the tire shop to get tire patched. But we will still need to get the spare off for the future. So this is helpful! Thanks again!
@@Alex-xd6ng i actually ended up getting another flat this past weekend several hours away from my house and had to call a mechanic to come out. He took a really long screwdriver and bashed something on the secondary safety to disengage it and got out to lower.
It must have that secondary latch meant to keep people from stealing spare..for those they got some weird design where it hooks in the middle and youll have to press in on this silver piece in middle lifting up and off the ledge...which explaining wouldnt be much help..if i come across one with a secondary latch ill make sure to do a video
Who ever owned my truck before me decided to keep the three extension pieces you need to lower the spare. I had to drive about 25 miles to the nearest open garage.
Sometimes the tire sticks to the frame, so youll probably wanna pull cable up so it barely below tire and tap it with a mallet...or if not it may have the secondary latch system to prevent the tire from being stolen
Why would i mislead for views..they have the same spare tire carrier..its not the same for all years but 2004-2012s use same..some also have a secondary locking system as well

What? So you don’t put the bent straight piece into the mechanism to lower it?

Plan B- grind the end of the cable off on the bottom. Be careful when it drops down.

Here’s a curious question: that gunnel doesn’t go anywhere and rotating/wiggling it won’t bite anything. Am I fucked? I’m always fucked.
My tire will only allow me 5 rotation then it stops, after that I feel like im stripping out the crank tip. I only have 3 inches of slack.
Yea it probably got tangled, sometimes u can free it by putting weight on it or have someone pull on it as ur rotate
Thank you for your effort
Thank you🙂
Ty for sharing 👍
great job
Thanks for the advice

Thanks for this video, hoe tight does it have to be when you réel the tire back?
Just try and push tire so that it doesnt move, any movement back and forth might wear into the rubber
@@backyardchevy328 Ok. I liked it, it’s not moving, I’ll recheck after driving around a bit. Thanks !
@@projet2907 sounds like a great plan🙂
Bro mine is taking forever his is like butter!
Is the mechanism really rusty? They seem to be worse in trucks that have been in snowy regions
Mine only goes down part of the way :( And its not low enough to turn the retainer assembly to get the spare off.
mine does the same

What do I do if my truck doesn't have the tools?
i havent tried getting it down another way, but imma look into it...but i do know that they sell em on ebay and amazon
U can use 3/8th drive extensions...imma do a video on it in the next couple weeks, tried it out today and it worked

Interesting, I’ve had my Zr2 for a year and didn’t know that was how you took spare off
First time i ever got the spare down too
Nevertheless, still one of the stoopidest example of engineering I have ever seen
They also add a secondary lock so the wheel doesnt get stolen on certain trucks..and that makes it even worse
my tire never came down just the small cable
Sometimes the tire sticks to the frame, so youll probably wanna pull cable up so it barely below tire and tap it with a mallet...or if not it may have the secondary latch system to prevent the tire from being stolen
