  • Tom Roberts reviews the latest Mercedes-Benz Sprinter large panel van to find out how this tech-filled luxury commercial vehicle compares to the other large vans (especially the Ford Transit) available to lease right now. In short, it’s a beautiful beast capable of carrying payloads of up to 1,516kg & keeping its drivers & passengers super comfortable while they work.

    Driving one right now, got a 4 cyl diesel 170”. Love it, so glad I got this one and not the other brands and I drove all three of the major brands (Promaster, Transit, Older sprinters) here in ol’ US of A.

    Good review. Reading the comments, my experience with our own 2019 is cab seating position good, storage and vents good, fuel economy good, size for RV conversion good. Don’t know about warranty, never had any breakdowns. For my two Sprinters I mean never.

    Oooo, the news of the new Sprinter being released soon, came as an excitement, but then as soon I saw the actual design, I felt somewhat lost, because this isn't really what Mercedes would do, let alone a Sprinter! For me the best Sprinter was the last generation, facelifted from 2015, liked it.
    The sharp edges and such, whereas this new generation has gone all aerodynamic, which I guess is the point of innovation, but what about the identity? I'm no fan of the new Sprinter, but I can respect why they did it, that too they're selling like hot cakes at the moment, so I guess there is no loss, they are even offering a Front-wheel-drive version!!
    I guess the Front wheel drive version can be VERY useful, especially in the winter, but it just never was a Mercedes thing...

    Tom, the gear linkage would be tight while the van is new. I have near 1 million ks on my manual 316 and gear shifting is a easy breeze (maybe you need to go to the gym) I would never opt for an auto

    A really good overview, but I do find I feel like I'm being sold the van as opposed to marks reviews where he is willing to speak more of the downsides

    • @vanaramauk
      @vanaramauk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Tom here: Fair comment, but when I'm talking about the best-selling large van on the UK market right now, it's hard to find a lot wrong with it (I make the point that it's a premium vehicle, so you will pay for that - perhaps its only real downside). Mark and I have different styles and different jobs - I've always seen mine as presenting the commercial vehicles in an overview/review style to allow operators to make up their own minds about whether the vehicle will work for them & their businesses. That's just how I see it, but I really appreciate your comment - it's valid feedback.

      @@vanaramauk Hi Tom, thank you for the response. I can definitely understand that to be fair. I mean with how good vans are nowadays if you were really trying to hard to find fault people would probably call you out for nit picking! But it's true i imagine vans and cars are often for very different customers, especially when it comes to leasing

  • @ubermenschen3636
    @ubermenschen3636 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    @7:25, your Sprinter van is not a “Supremum vehicle.” Its an ordinary commercial van with some electronic gadgets. MB would like your thinking everything it makes as “premium” so it can charge you a premium price for an ordinary commercial vehicle. There’s nothing “premium “ about the Sprinter. It deploys the traditional ICE mated to a gear transmission , rack-and-pinion steering, strut front- rear leaf suspension, ABS disc brakes, and 4 tires.

    • @Terror1Void
      @Terror1Void 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The MB is the same price range as a transit, it's not that premium priced.

    • @ubermenschen3636
      @ubermenschen3636 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Terror1Void ::: in that case both the Ford Transit and Sprinter are over priced.

    Gas or diesel is the question? Also automatic why fuss around in a manual. Otherwise it’s a perfect van in all other aspects.

    • @vanaramauk
      @vanaramauk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tom here: Right now, I'd say diesel. You'd pick it up for less money on a 5-year lease and then your next van could be electric. The Sprinter is a hard-working van, so pick the fuel that work for it best right now.

  • @kofib3

    It's a good van on the inside. Almost car like. Unlike their other smaller van the Citan which badly needs replacing..

    • @vanaramauk
      @vanaramauk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tom here: I agree. The Citan is getting a bit long in the tooth. However, the Sprinter is awesome. If they can upgrade the Citan & Vito with some of the Sprinter magic, they'll be onto a winner.

    • @kofib3
      @kofib3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vanaramauk Well there's a new Renault Kangoo which has just launched so I presume that the next Citan will be based on the Kangoo platform which they did back in 2012.. Hopefully Mercedes will have more input on the inside instead of just slapping their face on the front.. 😋

    • @terrificspokesman7416
      @terrificspokesman7416 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Vito and Sprinter is quite nice but the Citan is dated and has a cheap interior which is okay for the Renault Kangoo because its cheap but the Citan just charges extra. If you want a Mercades-Benz Citan buy a Renault Kangoo and smack some Mercades badges on it if you really want that brand name

    The van has been designed clearly by someone who doesn't drive. It's not very good if I'm honest. Storage compartments are useless, heating is useless, vents are useless, indicator lever is broken after covering 20k miles (every time I indicate right it sets off wipers). Unfortunately when it comes to vans Transit or Crafter do much better job. And good luck getting something out from behind seats.

  • @supernova2512

    Sprinter is overrated. I am driving for many years vans and It is far better to get a Boxer/Ducato/Relay as they are by far wider at the back and have better fuel economy, and also they are better for camper van conversion than sprinter as they are wider. Also, they have cheaper parts and service costs. I would go with sprinter only if I had to choose a 4x4 van that has better 4x4 system than the ford transit.

    Don't buy one, mercedes warranty is shit. Super heavy on fuel. Example . 7 times I've taken mine back for aircon not working. Even told them what the problem was. 4 times for side door lock not working 3 times with add blue problems. Now warranty has run out and they never fixed warranty issues.. side door opens when driving., aircon blows warm when radiator over freezes
    And on my 3rd add blue pipe, which the tried to blame on me.
