    Doctor Hobo ( assuming you have an advanced degree) Love the review. I have 600 watts of Yuma on my camper roof. Fit perfectly, glued right down. All for around 20 lbs. So these are are perfect for weight conscious slide in campers! I walk on them only when I have to, so far no probem. I wouldnt have had solar on my camper except for these panels. Screwing into fiberglass top and and all the extra weight, wind resistance, make glass not useable for me.

    Efficiency esmishency, 165 and 170 whatever watts is great laying down flat when the sun is at a tilt. 60 to 85 w is what my 100-watt glass panels make during prime hours on any of my systems. I have a 100 watt portable panel that makes 65 at the most, so this is pretty damn good.

    Still puts out power even in the shade.

    As mentioned earlier, I'd like to see if the CIGS panel takes a water-resistance hit if it goes through the gravel drag and foot tread tests presented in the video. Bullet holes are optional :)

    Wonder about heat buildup with no space or air under the panel.

    • @ThaDru
      @ThaDru 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The CIGS panels are also extremely heat tolerant, so you don't need to use an insulation layer underneath them like you need to do with silicon monochrystaline flex panels. The manufacturer also says it is unnecessary to put the insulation layer between the panel and the roof. I have two 100 watt CIGS panels and I haven't found any issues with heat affecting them. I really love mine and have been very impressed by their performance, especially in low/diffuse light and partially shaded situations. I've had days of solid heavy rain and clouds and still generated a fair amount of power.

  • @cgillit
    @cgillit ปีที่แล้ว +27

    My understanding is that the materials for a CIGS actually costs less than a typical mono/glass panel, but they just haven't gotten the same efficiencies of scale through mass production because it's not a widely used and adopted technology yet on the market. My hope is once the demand ramps up on these things and more venders come into the market with similar technology, we can start getting some efficiencies of scale and drive down the price.

    Hi there, can you speak to the adhesion of the tape? I'm thinking of sticking some compact 100W ones to my tab 400 (smooth painted aluminum roof). Easy/hard to remove? Why no tape along bottom edge? Is the tape 3M or some off-brand that might weaken with cold/hot weather cycles? Any other observations?

    This would be perfect for the bottom of my pool. So I guess your losing around 1 watt per 9x19mm. Have you tested a .45ACP? Is it a little more? Since a .45ACP is 21.8% larger diameter does that mean with a .45ACP round it's 1.21 watts loss per round? I'm asking for a friend of a friend...

    I would be curious how it performs over time. 100 watt flexible folding panels I have had degraded over 50% in just a year's time, yielding less than 50 watts of input, often significantly less. Wondering if my experience is common.

  • @robertthompson5084
    @robertthompson5084 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That price makes it hard to justify. Yes, amazing specs, but I just got 4 brand new 540w mono panels for 1k$.. 2160 watts. That same 1k$ would only get me 500w.

    I bought two CIGS about 5 months ago and it fixed a problem that could not be solved by any other type of panel. I have a very tall fiberglass roof on my Class B RV and I just did not want to mount glass panels on it due to it being already way to tall/high, fiberglass construction, round shaped, and very hard to get up there. Typical flexible panels just could not cut it due to their poor output and heat sensitivity. The 2 CIGS panels are amazing, produce WAY more than a flexible panel (I think more than glass too but not sure), they weigh very little, and add almost nothing to my van's height. And they were super easy to install.

  • @Grevlain
    @Grevlain ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Wow. These would seem to be perfect for like a class-c rv. Weight savings, shade tolerance, and durability. I just wonder if the adhesive is enough to prevent it from peeling up on the front edges from the wind of driving down the highway. (In the long term) HOBO - would you suggest additional adhesive like eternabond tape along those front edges? Thanks!!!

    • @HOBOTECH
      @HOBOTECH  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could but the adhesive has a lot of surface area. I don't think it will be an issue.

  • @greensavant2573
    @greensavant2573 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great review.
    I agree with it all, and just installed this panel on my Toy micro-mini. It replaced a 90w German adhesive panel that lasted 8 years. I did not want to put holes in my 30 yo roof, nor add the weight and wind resistance to the struggling 3.0l engine!
    CAUTION! BoughRV has many pics and figures showing this panel being bent inwards and outwards, yet, hidden in their manual, is a warning to only bend with the cells on the outside! I would tell them, but I have given up trying to communicate with their Customer Support. I finally told myself to never buy another product from them, however, this panel is the absolute best out there. Renogy makes one, but it is lower wattage, and costs even more.
    BUY THEM BEFORE THE PRICE GOES UP! THEY DON'T HAVE COMPETITION!

  • @Cabernet2000
    @Cabernet2000 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Professor, general question regarding solar power systems. Many people in and around the area I live in, are all canned up about electric bills and how expensive grid power is. My question is after pricing a whole home solar system to "replace" the grid power, is solar more expensive? I got a quote for $37,000 for complete install with battery backup, a whole home generator quote of $17,000, and my annual grid consumption ($$) is roughly $3,000. In situation solar is 10x the cost of grid, and 2+x whole home generator which is purely a backup for an outage. Your thoughts are appreciated. Love the videos, new subscriber.

It works well, stays in place, very light weight and strong. I am budgeting to buy more. Worth every cent. Have removed standard hard frame solar panels and installed a roof A/C for stays at places with shore power. My goal is too get more BougeRV sticky back solar and put as many as I can on the roof of my Roadtrek. Using Ecoflow Wave-2 as a boondocking A/C at night and so far things are good. Bouge RV needs to think bigger and sell these to government contractors like KBR/Haliburton, United Defense, TRW,,, And mark them up 5 to 10 times what the sell them for right now, then drop their prices to be competitive with regular solar panels on the civilian market. Selling to government contractors would probably make it easier for the company to get a subsidy to offset the higher cost, and you know the Department of Defense would be interested in these because of being bulletproof).

      It must have been a glitch in their system. I never heard from Klarna AND my panel arrives today. All's well

    Just what Ive been looking for! I've been hesitant to pull the trigger on walkable solar panels for my ProMaster to complement a 400 Watts already installed. Now, I can have a bullet proof deck to enjoy.

    Does anyone know if I can use this to charge myJackery Explorer 2000 Pro Portable Power Station? I camp in my Honda Element and I don't have room for 6 panels Jackery requires for this on their website. The only way I can currently charge my Jackery is by plugging it into an outlet so this means it doesn't really do me a lot of good right now. I for sure can't charge it with my car cigarette lighter because it will burn it up. Thanks for the advice in advance.

    Will the width of the CIGS panels bend or are they just flexible along their length? I have a bicycle wagon i would love to use cigs on but dont know if they would sideways flex that way to work?

    • @HOBOTECH
      @HOBOTECH  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It flexes in both directions but not as much along the width.

    I decided that buying a panel that works after being damaged was a way better deal. I never reall thought about how fragile the other types of panels are.
