It vin locked my ecu and it wouldn't run properly. I had to leave it on the road until I could get it towed to the Ford dealership at Caboolture. After a few days they managed to get it running smoothly. I still have it here if you wanted it mate. All you have to do is get in touch my the company. It will cost you about 150 dollars. I used to tune Moates (Piggyback for pre-BA EEC fords) but this looks like a big upgrade from those. For a start it deals with boost directly, with the old Moates ones you had to use load over 100% to deal with boost. From what I can see on screen, the main fuel % change Map looks typical. Not sure how I feel about leaning out near the redline, but that may be in tandem with timing changes on another map... Assuming you have control over fuel and timing, and assuming new injector specs can be accommodated on this piggyback ecu, I'd keep it. Fine for a budget build.
PCMTEC is very powerful now. Look into it more. Their CustomOS for the standard ECU is impressive. Can do on the fly tune switching, eflex, launch control among other things.
@@MotoringBoxTV What quirks? I would've thought the PCMtec would also be over half the price. Though I think the BF onwards ECU's are also more powerful that the BA, could be wrong.
Yes the RDP piggybacks were TSI. I had them fitted to my xr6t and supercharged xr8 back when Steve owned the business and Lee Bloom did all the work lol. I've probably still got the software on an archaic laptop! You could buy an adapter to take it back to standard quickly if you were to go the later available full pcm tuning (PCMTec, SCT, VCM etc)
Hmm, that would be cool. Hopefully it's not too difficult to remove the whole setup entirely though. I haven't had a close look because it's a pain in the ass to get down there in the footwell to see what's going on.
My advice when it comes to mods is "buy once cry once" and when I comes to the missus the old "It's easier to beg for forgiveness rather than ask for permission !" Try to save around 10k to get some of the decent mods. Can't wait to see how your journey goes with this build 🤙🏽
that was pretty interesting. my 2 cents worth if you are already getting 15psi those stock valve springs are very much on their limit. any additional boost in a tune may see you walking home from the drags if you dont do the springs. i was very tempted not to on mine but all tuners i spoke to said it is a must do before you do anything else.
With the value springs upgrade they are better for your engine if you have few hundred kilometres on the engine I had mine done and injectors fuel pump upgrade 3.5” turbo back exhaust and dyno turned. Said I didn’t want him to get the maximum amount of power from these mods so I wouldn’t be breaking different parts from the jump in power. I ended up with 411rwhp and it was great with the pcmtec as well which I could choose low or high boost while driving plus drive by boost which lets boost out more and more as you go up in gears. I had that done nearly two years ago at real dyno performance and I haven’t had any issues with my car and I couldn’t believe how much better it was. I had told Lee that I got the car so I could go to car meets and cruise around with my son and have a great time just us boys in the car. He said that he was ready and I done a few pulls not flat out and he said he was ok and then I said I would do it 100% throttle and he said I had and when I did he had a massive smile on his face and he rides shot gun at powercruise and powerplay. I knew I had to replace my intercooler as it was the original one from factory and it’s got over 220,000 kilometres I’m the second owner and I’m getting a new one installed and and dyno turned again at real dyno and my son said he is really excited to see the difference in power and how fast it’s going to be at powercruise in September hoping it doesn’t get stopped from COVID restrictions.

RealDyno is not the same as Redcliffe dyno performance, "RDP" was brought out by a different person then rebranded as RealDyno, so I'd suggest going into RealDyno and speaking to Lee about bringing it into the 2020s tune wise 😁😏 But I'd recommend at least getting it run up and checked it's safe in its current state, especially if you're seeing 15 psi boost on those spaghetti rods 😉

BTW I'm going to start racing at Lakeside so need a big tune and a 3 core rad, Cheers Lee Rhodes I'll call Monday real dyno. Sweet
I'd honestly be very careful if it is indeed pushing 15psi as being completely stock the fuel pump and injectors shouldn't be able to do that and I'm surprised the valve springs are still holding up lol
23.3 PSI, considering that, the ECU remapping accounts for having 1bar standard pressur, in manifold at most times.., loosk like the tune was set to just make the 7psi feel a lil more perky perhaps with the extra fuel deliveries, if that was 23psi, oh boy would you feel it,.. an unless the bottom end on the BA mk2 was rebuilt or rods swapped out for bf mk2 (fpv style) fatties then same same you would probably have seen a Rodney pop out to visit you by now xD
Redcliffe dyno and real dyno are 2 different companies. Redcliffe was run by “Dyno Steve” otherwise known as flog on. Going via him was an expensive option back in the day compared to better known brands. He made a name for himself here, and even bigger one in USA. Google Dyno Steve for the lolz
I noticed it has ALOT of wires going into it, and seeing all the features explains why. This unit can control vtec and vvti. It can also fire additional injectors or take full control of the injection. It also can advance and retard timing 50+/- degrees. Piggybacks have a place where the manufacturer locks the ECU or you want all of these other features without having to have a tuner burn you a chip every single time ( such as boost solenoid, meth injection, rpm or boost based triggers, etc ). Oil pump gears, valve springs, injectors, F6 airbox, tune - should get you around 250-270rwkw✅ But TBH, I would say the poxy T5 box will be more of a power restrictor than the stock exhaust - anything above 250rwkw gets dicey with the T5, in saying that, people had problems with them in stock trim 🤷🏾♂️🤣 Honestly, if you're keen for power, go speak to the tuner you plan on using, let them know what your budget is and they'll know exactly what power they can get for your budget.
650 cc injectors, a new turbo upgrade to 3584r . 3 inch intercooler and plazmaman piping for the hot and cold sides. Ecu flashed by a professional. 20 percent under drive harmonic balancer and pullies and new serpentine belt. I wouldn't ever want to put my car on a dyno. Reving it out to 7k. No way

I am not too worried at the moment. From what I have worked out the car has been this since at least 2009. I think it would have gone boom already if it were going to.
I don’t know why anyone bothered with piggy backs by the time this car would have been built. The first xr6t came out in 02 and by the end of 03 the flash tuner had already hit the market

I've used Armor All protectant original for over 15 years and find it works very well. A lot of people in the comments seem to hate it though and are convinced it cracks plastics.
@@MotoringBoxTV do you use a windshield cover etc to stop sun beaming the life out of it or just the Armorall.. if so thats pretty impressive haha.. i tried restoring mine but pink batts insulation fibers and dust ate it up good over span of a year an me not considering after effects haha. riiip
I do use windscreen shades in summer but I've only owned the car just over 6 months - so no idea what the previous owners did during the 16 years prior. Other than that the dashmat is oem Ford and has probably been on there the whole time.
Was the guy you bought it off of the original owner?
Nope. But I did work out there were two before him. I found the previous guy, but he told me the original owner did all the mods. I have his name but wasn't able to find him anywhere.
Piggyback ecu looks interesting, how much do you want for it? ^_^
I'll probably keep it if I take it out. I might be able to use it on another project.
Great content as always mate! All those figures and stats are beyond my understanding but hope you find someone who can help you out. :-)
I hope so too
How can we get the computer thing please I have a cable I need the computer bit. Please 🙂
I dont care much for the car but THAT ENGINE! Yea baby.
Injector Duty Cycle is what that was talking about when boost is being made. There's a heck of a lot to it, go watch Haltech technically speaking vids. Scott aka "Tuning Falk " who works for Haltech is their Gun Tuner.
Scott has amazing knowledge that's for sure.
Cool video
Overboosting on a BA motor is disastrous. Hope you get it properly dyno tuned soon !
Me too. I'll probably go easy on it until then.
RealDyno is not the same as Redcliffe dyno performance, "RDP" was brought out by a different person then rebranded as RealDyno, so I'd suggest going into RealDyno and speaking to Lee about bringing it into the 2020s tune wise 😁😏
But I'd recommend at least getting it run up and checked it's safe in its current state, especially if you're seeing 15 psi boost on those spaghetti rods 😉
Haha yeah haha spaghetti haha, that's a good name for the very first turbo motor Conrod's, they're so thin hey Lee Rhodes haha man your car looks awesome I just got my FG and I like yours. Is yours manual? I've heard of your shop real dyno Lee Rhodes can you tune my car? Sweet, I'll give you a ring on Monday Lee cheers.
Let's just say I am buying a few parts 👌
What's is your aim for the car eg stage 1 set up?
The whole stage thing is pretty stupid to me, lol. Just some mild mods and a tune will do it. Nothing crazy.
23.3 PSI, considering that, the ECU remapping accounts for having 1bar standard pressur, in manifold at most times.., loosk like the tune was set to just make the 7psi feel a lil more perky perhaps with the extra fuel deliveries,
if that was 23psi, oh boy would you feel it,.. an unless the bottom end on the BA mk2 was rebuilt or rods swapped out for bf mk2 (fpv style) fatties then same same you would probably have seen a Rodney pop out to visit you by now xD
Interesting, thanks for the info.
I know this is an old video. But can you email me the PowerMod software?
Edit. I found it on your website. Thanks!!
I was just about to send you that link... haha
@@MotoringBoxTV you get a sub for pure communication. Not to mention you talk about the ford barra engine. So that's another reason. Thanks!
That radcliffe piggy back is extremely capable.
I've managed to track down all the documentation and wiring diagrams for it - I hope to use it for a project in the future 👍
I've reviewed the following:
MAPECU3
AEM FIC
URD FTC
Split Second
SMT6/7/8
DET3
Greddy eManage
The Powermod appears to be at the top of the heap regarding features.
@@MotoringBoxTV
I also found that the Haltech can function in a "piggyback" mode.
Nah skip that V12 au madness. Get me some Bunnings snags. Really hoping there is some snag ASMR in there haha
Sounds disgusting lol
WHAT IS AU FALCON V12 PROJECT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i got a 1983 zk fairlane that was turboed back in the late 90s it runs a aftermarket computer called a INJEC Tune computer, no one will touch it everyone i talk to want me to spend $1500 and up for either link ecu or a haltec . either way its $3 to $5 grand for someone to install and tune ,
That's a shame. I guess most tuners just throw it in the too hard basket.
I couldn't get over the @bigpond.com on the title.
Spared no expense.
It shouldn't really be running 15 real psi with stock valve springs and injectors, its probably saying that but pushing 13 psi through your engine Max
I am not going to lean on the engine too hard until it gets tuned later. It sort of just feels like it isn't quite running right up high in the RPM.
@haltech hook dis man up with the goods
I reckon 🤙
7,000 rpm, is alot for a BA barra.
Hope someone upgraded the oil pump gears.
And valve springs
5:14 Au Falcon V12 project 🤣
Oil pump gears, valve springs, injectors, F6 airbox, tune - should get you around 250-270rwkw✅
But TBH, I would say the poxy T5 box will be more of a power restrictor than the stock exhaust - anything above 250rwkw gets dicey with the T5, in saying that, people had problems with them in stock trim 🤷🏾♂️🤣
Honestly, if you're keen for power, go speak to the tuner you plan on using, let them know what your budget is and they'll know exactly what power they can get for your budget.
It's a 6-speed!
@@MotoringBoxTV in that case 🚀
650 cc injectors, a new turbo upgrade to 3584r . 3 inch intercooler and plazmaman piping for the hot and cold sides. Ecu flashed by a professional. 20 percent under drive harmonic balancer and pullies and new serpentine belt. I wouldn't ever want to put my car on a dyno. Reving it out to 7k. No way
lol the renamed folders on the desktop
😁
Got to be very careful with the latest sct 4 flash tuner. I bought 1 second hand and the bloke told me that it wasn't married to any other cars. Fuck me it was married to another car. It vin locked my ecu. I had to leave it on the side of the road for 2 days. I got it towed to a Ford dealership. There was a huge chance that the computer was dead. I got lucky thanks to the people at Ford Caboolture. Ever since I've had my ba xr6 it is always using 13 l of fuel. I've even tried to drive it much slower on the highway. I don't know if its bumped or not. It's winter white so I was wondering if it was a police car back in the day.
Redcliffe dyno doesn't seem to be well liked on the website's web searches, seems he's ripped a lot of people off or some weird shit, glad Lee Rhodes will sought you out. Go the bara
Redcliffe dyno hasn't been round for over 10 years, and the current owner has worked hard to rebrand it into a far better company with much higher level of work
@@GENE_THE_NEMES1S I had no idea about the history during filming, but having read about it now or definitely was an interesting story.
Remove the piggyback and get a proper tune, 15psi on a GT3582 on a stock BA engine, without a turbo back or valve springs could be dangerous.
I am not too worried at the moment. From what I have worked out the car has been this since at least 2009. I think it would have gone boom already if it were going to.
@@MotoringBoxTV True, or it could be a time bomb waiting for that last boost 😉
@nuggetgarage
That is strange, my BA is tuned with pcm making 300kw on 13psi, this is showing 15+!!!
In a far less desirable state of tune I'm guessing. The car does fly though, so I'd love to know how much power it makes.
@@MotoringBoxTV I'm really interested!! Wish you lived in Melbourne, I'd organize to get it onto a Dyno to find out!
AU v12...
USB, goes in 1 way and we always get it wrong. Definitely
What a diabolical design.
@@MotoringBoxTV made to be that way. You could never see the port, evil rectangular little plug.........
Im no IT expert, but running obscure software downloaded from a bloke located on an island in the middle of nowhere might be risky.
Dunno, he seemed trustable!
ah yes engine mods also known as engine killers
You got it.
I don’t know why anyone bothered with piggy backs by the time this car would have been built. The first xr6t came out in 02 and by the end of 03 the flash tuner had already hit the market
It like like it was probably 04 - 05.
Good video do a burnout
Godzilla into FG.
Say what
Cut the loom off where it splices into the factory loom. I had a unichip + tune paid for it to be removed, all they did was cut/tape the wiring. Pcmtech tune your rig. Piss off the old tech! Go flex fuel tune it's free power on e85!
Just see nugget.😂
Bunnings sausages
The best.
Zac baldy tuned his car at real dyno check it out
Yeah Lee Rhodes did it, ZAC DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE THOUGH HAHA, HE HAD A FULL SPOON MOTOR
Offtttt
