Thanks for watching and Happy New Year! Considering the boost control issue we had on the day, the power Hoff was able to get out of the BA was pretty impressive! With an external wastegate and proper boost control, we should be able to hit 360kW.
I had a BA XR6T, with about 260K on the clock, made a nice 256rwkw, only mods were full exhaust, K&N air filter, 42lb injectors and 255 lph fuel pump, still had factory intercooler, setup was designed to hit the magic 300rwkw/ 400rwhp, which it would have hit If I had an aftermarket intercooler, but I was happy with it, BTR transmission held up well. Edit, Boost was only at 8.5 - 9psi of boost

Glad someone noticed it. It was the first tune I thought of when I was editing, and I spent ages trying to find one just like it. Until I realised the original didn't trigger TH-cam's copyright... so here we are 😀
I had boost control issues on my xr6t. Turned out the wastegate actuator rod was touching on the engine mount bracket, and thankfully was jammed open. They sit very close to the mount, and if your turbo comes loose over time, and they will (these motors are notorious for loose exhaust side bolts) then you could have the acuator rod touching the mount. I HIGHLY recommend getting a set of Anchorlox turbo studs from Atomic performance. Used to have the stock bolts back out every couple of months, no more issues now. Well worth the $$
@@Rhubarb237 I've never used them before but I might give them a go on my manifold bolts. Yeah they are alot cheaper for the 12 manifold bolts, the 12 anchorlox are around $300 from memory. I wouldn't go past them for the turbo though, well worth the piece of mind there since you have to remove the entire manifold to access the bottom 2 bolts. I've also got them on the dump pipe aswell. The heat cycles these manifolds go though when running high boost levels just seem to break anything free. Im on 21psi at current and I'm checking them weekly.
@@WASDxMerceless I was having issues too with a turbo pinto in my Escort. GTX2860R gen2, 26psi 355whp. I changed from studs to 8.8 tensile bolts with Nord-Locks. I also put them on the turbo oil drain bolts after a near fire on the quarter mile. I still check them from time to time but they are never loose. They really are that good
There's rumours of Bullet developing a billet alloy block for them, expensive obviously but should take away a lot of weight, so engine swaps don't turn into lead-tipped arrows.
Hard to believe 22 years later we are still tuning falcons. I remember back in 2003 when I finally got my Ute , I was going down the path for 600rwkw.achieved it but it nearly damned killed me afterwards. Sedan yes, Ute definitely not .
thats pretty decent power for a 1R rod engine, id be leaving at that until pump gears and rods are done, 330kw in a 6 speed manual would be a blast to drive
@@MotoringBoxTV yeah not so much the rpm as it is the shock loading from limiter, clutch dumps etc thats why its far less likely for an auto to pop them. I did mine for safety.
a little bit more than my predicted 320 but i wasnt thinking he would take it to 16 pounds. next step drag strip. i have just got home from 2 days at the dragstrip and my BA with 300.7 rwkw was running 12.8 so you should see low 12's

I will most likely be going for an external wastegate, but to be honest the current outcome is actually pretty good. 332rwkw is a ton and as you can see from the dyno curve it's a nice fat slab of power. These aren't the sort of engines you need to rev all the way to the redline anyway.

I concur, I have a Bf mk2 xr6 turbo daily (6yrs) with 350rwkw and you always want more power, but there is a fine line between daily reliability and forking out big $$$, enjoy👍
Nice result bud, I bet it drives so much better with that mid range punch from the extra torque. Did you do have the wastegate port enlarged with a bigger flapper valve? This is a typical mod required for these cars.
I don't know anything about Fords but he said something about being in closed loop while under WOT? ..... How does that work with commanding the right AFR... as O2 sensors are really just designed for swinging back and forth which I wouldn't imagine is good for boost led alone just WOT? .....
We weren't able to sadly... once you start installing the mods it's sort of impossible to dyno the car and run it at full throttle. Stock standard they're generally just under 200rwkw though.

Looks like you'll need new rods and?or new pistons. That is a huge job. Would be cheaper to buy a Green Top LPG motor. They already have thicker rods in them.

What ever you do- dont go the route of chasing power figures with 4 numbers in it. Worse thing i did to my F6, was fun but also went from a nice streeter to an outright drag pig

I think a few small mods for a bump in power is all good, but as soon as you reach the point where you're breaking things and needing to beef up the drivetrain... it's not so much fun anymore

Will never mod it because then it'll need a bloody built zf, new turbo, built tail shaft, bigger wheels, head studs, etc etc. Waste of money. Why even bother try to make them quick if you're just driving them on the road, that's how I look at it. If you want something quick that doesn't need a lot shit done to it, just buy a s3 or golf r or something like that
Unfortunately you have a boost leak too, that noise you can hear as it comes on boost that sounds like a high pitch kettle is a hole somewhere and I'd guess inlet mani gasket, Id fix that before the next tune as it might affect the boost level when you do fix it
@@MotoringBoxTV yes i always thought that noise was the turbo screaming its tits off at full boost that is what turbos are known for, mine sounds the same.
@@MotoringBoxTV yeah it's pretty distinctive sound, I chased my tail for a while trying to find it when mine did it, used sprays etc etc to see if the revs would climb but was no change, it was only when I built a cap to fasten over the turbo inlet with a tyre valve in it so I could charge the system with compressed air that I found it, found it within seconds when it hissed out the leak. Its not very youtuber to dyno a car and not throw a rod out of the block. Isnt the formula for vews to claim the number that it made on the run where it did shoot a rod? But 332kw is still very stout for a street driven car. Shouldnt have any issue keeping up with traffic. Its speed cameras you have to worry about.

Im no expert on turbos, i have blown 3 intercoolahs and a turbo on a turbo diesil, but the internal waste gate was seized shut. So, the fact on spring preasure your boost tapers off to me indicates the internal wastegate is up to the task. If it wasnt, then the thing would gain a few unwanted psi.

Can i pick your brains. I had a ba turbo ute before. Thinking about getting a bf. That has a modified motor yeah. Toyotas great cars. Out of control prices now. 1983 2 door corolla wagon, running on gas was my favourite. Until i t boned a toyota 4 x4 with it. I rolled the 4x4. No one got hurt, it was his fault, he went straight thru. There were fish and chips everywhere. I got insurance for the old girl, replaced the front panel and one guard and away she went. No front window thou, me and my mate drove 300k with motor bike helmets on, to check a crop, but thats another story. Sorry talk to much.

I'm not a Ford guy, but I am a Barra fan- love to put one in an EK Holden, even just an N/A. Such a great Aussie developed engine.

Like you say it actually worked out pretty good. Pump gears hate high rpm and limiter, so this may be a good compromise.

@@MotoringBoxTV yeah it's pretty distinctive sound, I chased my tail for a while trying to find it when mine did it, used sprays etc etc to see if the revs would climb but was no change, it was only when I built a cap to fasten over the turbo inlet with a tyre valve in it so I could charge the system with compressed air that I found it, found it within seconds when it hissed out the leak. @@G42J3T Yea i might have to make one up i made up a radiator one years ago using a male air fitting and a radiator cap to suit the car i was working on and dialled the compressor down to 15psi.
the only problem with that car (or any true aussie car) is its RHD.

Its not very youtuber to dyno a car and not throw a rod out of the block. Isnt the formula for vews to claim the number that it made on the run where it did shoot a rod?
But 332kw is still very stout for a street driven car. Shouldnt have any issue keeping up with traffic. Its speed cameras you have to worry about.

@@MotoringBoxTV im interested to find out why your boost preasure tapers off at high rpms. Im no expert on turbos, i have blown 3 intercoolahs and a turbo on a turbo diesil, but the internal waste gate was seized shut. So, the fact on spring preasure your boost tapers off to me indicates the internal wastegate is up to the task. If it wasnt, then the thing would gain a few unwanted psi.

@@MotoringBoxTV I got so much work for mine. Started getting things done but then covid hit and income hasn't been steady enough. Just building back up now my priority is to get a garage as I had to downsize. The South Aussie sun is unfortunately killing it.
Push rods! Falcons stopped using pushrods in the 6cyl in the nineties unless you talking about those old GM LS engines.

Can i pick your brains. I had a ba turbo ute before. Thinking about getting a bf. That has a modified motor yeah. Toyotas great cars. Out of control prices now. 1983 2 door corolla wagon, running on gas was my favourite. Until i t boned a toyota 4 x4 with it. I rolled the 4x4. No one got hurt, it was his fault, he went straight thru. There were fish and chips everywhere. I got insurance for the old girl, replaced the front panel and one guard and away she went. No front window thou, me and my mate drove 300k with motor bike helmets on, to check a crop, but thats another story. Sorry talk to much.
