  • This tutorial for beginners and more advanced inline skaters, helps you gain your balance, stability & steering consciously on rollerblades & inline skates. The Toe-Roll is the fastest way to get rid of inside edge pronation, learn to balance correctly AND steer. Enjoy variations of each drill to match your ability level. Do not leave your learning to trial and error.
    The “Stops & Slides” Online course features the 6 most important stopping methods for inline skaters and you can pick & mix which methods you want the most. Don’t leave your stopping to trial & error. One nasty fall early on in your skating can lead to giving up altogether. Don't let it be you next!

    I really would like to master one-legged front wheel wheelies - so riding on one leg and at the same time only on the front wheel. I practiced a lot, and only rarely I made a 2 or 3 seconds ride. Watched some tutorials before, but none of them really gave me the grasp how to master it.

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      One wheel wheelies are the MOST difficult skill on inline skates and balancing there is 1000x harder than on 1 skate or 2 front wheels. I don't do vids about this because 99.9% of my audience are not wanting to learn this stuff. My tip for you for this skill is to watch the position of your knee over the 1 wheel. It must never pass over the front of that wheel. A good drill is to get VERY happy with 2 front wheels in scissor position (one skate infant of the other) and then try to move your weight from 50/50 to 60/40 and 70/30 very slowly, putting more weight on the front wheel (WITHOUT leaning forwards at all from the waist/hips. head and shoulders UP. This pathway will get you to 95/5 and one day that back wheel will lift off the ground......this will not be a fast process but do 5 mins every time you skate. Tell me how this goes.

    • @TIJEY-BEG
      @TIJEY-BEG 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SkatefreshVideos I thank you so much. I save your instruction for personal reading only, to walk through it over and over again. And as I skate almost everyday, I try this approach from time to time while riding. After one week or so, I can let you know if it works better than my own approaches.
      Yes, I see how difficult one-legged front wheelies are, but it looks so amazing when I see slalom skaters elegantly move around the cones with that move, and it looks so easy. I know this is no figure skating or slalom skating channel, so I follow some other skate channels as well, because I really would like to become a professional slalom skater.
      But I like your channel. I learn some street skating, and basic mechanics of inline skating. I thank you and honor you so much for all that I learnt before, from the videos made by the Skate Fresh team.

    Thanks a lot, Asha, I'll keep an eye on my knee and make sure to keep a centered edge, on 5 wheels, and I will tell you about it if I finally get to make it :-) thanks again for your very well explained videos :-)

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd love it if you could take a video of some of your progress, like before the video your 5 wheels and edge (filmed from the front) and then after some practice with the video tips. I want students to be able to see themselves as this is the only way to really know if you have the knee bent ENOUGH. I'm making some Speed skating e-books at the moment with the focus being on teaching the stduetns how to video themselves in order to see what I see and then to compare it to my video. This is as close as you can come to having me with you (I teach you what I look at and how I correct it). I'm really excited about this project. It will launch early next year. Send me your video!

I would very much like to see more tutorials on how to recover from going over acorns, stones, sticks, cracks and ledges in the pavement etc. because we already have enough "ride on a very flat surface and improve your balance" videos out there.

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it;s very important to actively choose your skating area especially when you are a beginner. Skating where there is lots of debris is like learning to drive on a motoracing circuit. A bit too advanced too quickly.
      I am going to be making an online product all about street skating which goes into this in detail, but this will take several months yet. To survive all surface obstacles you need to learn and master the Scissor position which with some speed will safely take you over all the obstacles you listed. But ideally it's best to miss them as hitting each obstacle carries the risk of being tripped up and falling.
      If you'd like more hands-on help from me, check out my new video bundles with 10+ free tutorials. You can even choose your level!

    Hi Mam... M a great fan of urs from India.. I started skating a year ago.. Now I can skate in Recreational Skates(LA Sports skates) but I wanna switch to Bont or Luigino Racing skates. To be true I cant do the third kind of movement you showed in the video. Also recreational skates are quite heavy and can't do that 'push and recover' skill as is done by pro skater. So is it proper time to switch or should I continue with my recreational skates.? Also at the age of 26 can I really learn double push and be fast skater? Please guide Mam. Thanks for all your videos.

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Arijit. In my opinion about 95% of skaters who move onto speed skates (Bont etc) do so far too early, before they have mastered the basic and intermediate level skills. In thier rush to get into speed skates they then actually reduce their ability to improve in speed skates. How do you know if you moved off recreational skates too early??? If a skater has a pronation onto an inside edge when in the push or the glide section of the stride then it's too early, go back to recreational skates until you can comfortably glide on a centre or outside edge. I see about 80% of ALL new speed skaters skating on inside edges and this puts bad pressure on your ankles and feet and reduces your speed! So try to be perfect in all tecnique (even Double Push) on rec skates first. Then when you transition to speed skates you will continue to improve. Everyone thinks speed skates will AUTOMATICALLY make you faster. Not true and its often the opposite, can make you slower and make the training a lot more difficult. Good luck! Later this year I am producing 3 e-books with videos all about speed skating including the double push so I think you will particularly like those. Info will appear here on the youtube channel so keep connected. About 3 months I hope.

I am using your question above to write an article about exactly WHEN is the time to make the switch from rec skates to low cut speed skates as soooooo many people get this decisionw ring and pay dearly for it (in terms of lost speed, pains and unfortunately even injuries.

      +Trujillo uv I started at the local skating rink. They have a hand-rail so if you wobble you can catch it so don't fall over. At the rink they will have staff who are very happy to teach and give advice, or just ask any skater they are a friendly lot. It took me two sessions of about two hours each before I felt confident to skate outdoors. Once you can skate without falling over but still wobbling I went out and found a smooth path to practice on but tennis courts are a good place to practice.

      Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. The skates Asha wears in this video are Powerslide Hardcore Evo. Rockered setup is good for slalom, it makes tricks easier to get, but also makes street skating uncomfortable and unstable, so it all depends on the skater.

    Hi, I'm trying once and again to glide on one leg, but I'm unable... My kid can do it, but I feel fear of falling to the outside... I don't know how to manage that unconscious fear... Can you give me any advice? May be starting by keeping the leg I should lift with one wheel on the floor? My trainer told me to to try it with one shoe in the foot that I should lift, but while this gives me a little bit more confidence, I still don't manage to get balanced on one leg... Thanks in advance and thanks a lot also for your videos.

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Toe roll position (One wheel gliding at the back) is a good place to train one legged stability and to learn to control your edges. You need to be ona centre edge (not inside edge or outside edge). There is another video Ive done which I will link to which explains this edge control a bit better and will be useful if you watch it too.
      Video tutorial on how to skate correct edges. Useful for all skate skills and tricks.
      If you are prone to falling off your outside edge then train yourself to glide on a centre edge before going any further and do all this on 5 wheels before then tapping the back wheel and lifting it off the ground for increasingly longer. It should bea very gradual process. Good luck! Keep your knee cap covering the toes of the skate you are balancing on, that's THE most importat thing you aren't doing. xx

    Hi Asha. I need your help... I am facing a problem while skating using my inline skates...I am aware about always keeping my feet straight. But while skating I use my inside edge so my feet is in the wrong postion. Can you help me how to fix this???

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ir's hard to fix this online! You need to use your knee to control the edge of the skate you are on, so experiment moving your knee inwards and outwards. Your knees are going inwards naturally creating inside edges so try to gently move your knee out towards your little toes. This should change your edge. Aim for the very centre of your wheel, the middle, not inclined either way..... Good luck. For more help Im giving away more free videos on my website skatefresh.com

    Hola Asha. Esos ejercicios me parecen que sirven para aprender el double push? Por favor uno de estos días enseña como hacerlo(double push) y practicarlo para ganar velocidad y ahorrar energía while rollerblading long distances!

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Te digo que estoy ahora mismo escribiendo una serie de livros electronicas (con videos y ejercision) y termina con el double empuje. Hay mucho gente como ti pidiendo esto y esta casi listo. Estamos construyendo un nuevo website para lancarlo este ano. Hacer el doble empuje en un video de 2 minutos creo que es iresponsable! Es muy complicado, no crees?
      Sanny noticed that the advanced exercise in this video is a good Double Push training exercise, well spotted. He asked for a Double Push video tutorial. I replied. I am right doing the final edits on a series of e-books with videos, the last of which covers the Double Push in some detail. DOing a double push video in 2 minutes feels almost irresponsible, don't you think? It's very complex.

    Hello.
    I Bough new skates past week. I wear them only 4 times. At start, when i was remembering how to skate, everything was fine. But last time, after more intensive skating my right foot started to bend outwards while left leg is holding perfect all the time.
    Tried to make it tighter, didn't help. Tough, maybe it is tired..now i wear skates after 2 days and my right leg is still bending outwards. it puts a lot of pressure on my inner feet and seems a bit painful. Can it be skate made wrong, or maybe i am doing something wrong? I got K2 exo 6.0
    Just want to ask someone who maybe knows before i ask for exchange to new ones.

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's most probably the direction you are bending that knee. Try experimenting bending the knee forwards and then inwards slightly so you angle the wheel onto the centre or middle of the wheel, so not inclined at all. This should help. Edges are controlled by your knees! Although this isn't obvious. Good luck. For more free help and videos sign up on skatefresh.com and receive instant access to 10+ video tutorials which Im sure will help.

    Hi Asha. Thanks for the video! I have a problem though. Whenever I try to perform the basic toe roll, I tend to turn towards the direction of my toe-rolling foot. I have a centre edge on my front foot so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any tips?

    • @SkatefreshVideos
      @SkatefreshVideos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Is someone filming you while doing the exercise? I ask because sometimes we do tilt the skates and we are not aware of that. A light inside edge is enough to make you turn. And your toe-rolling foot could be tilting as well. So the best way to find out if you are actually straight is with someone filming you. Another thing that can cause problems is the weight distribution. In this exercise you really need to put your weight on the front foot and keep your knee very bent, but be careful because the toe-rolling skate still needs some weight in order to avoid a wobbling motion. You can try doing this same exercise but with the 8 wheels on the floor (or 6 if you are riding triskates), more weight on the front, like in a lunge position but not that low. Once you are comfortable going straight in this position called scissors you can "upgrade" going into toe roll.
