- Spilve gets up to take a break and we get to see the new chick & hear its peeping. This golden eaglet is a cutie! ♥♥ Virsis comes home and sees his new chick for the first time! What a tender moment! He then broods his chick until Spilve returns. Thank you for watching!

Virsis, a Golden Eagle male, and Spilve, a newly-mature Golden Eagle female, breed in their artificial nest, which was installed in 2010. Most recently the eagles successfully breed here in 2016. The nest is located in a bog on an island managed by the Latvian State Forests. Last year a female (Spilve) appeared regularly but she was too young to breed. For 2020, Spilve laid two eggs - on March 28th and April 1st.

I sure hope Virsis gets the hang of being an excellent provider/feeder like M 15, Samson & Shadow have proven to be. This precious baby is looking up at dad for some breakfast, lunch or dinner. Feed me pops, I want to grow big & strong like you.

Little one has a strong set of lungs! Precious are the moments when a Dad greets his baby for the first time:) Dad's love to brood and Virsus knew exactly what to do! Mom's wingspan was huge...nice to see her go eat or maybe take a short break. Thank you Lady Hawk and beautiful scaps:)

That thousand-yard stare at 3:47 though. lol That's a lot to absorb with all the implications about being a first time parent. Can you imagine arriving home to sit on your eggs and one of them has turned into a bobble headed fuzzy butt that is peeping for food?
I always wonder what goes through the parents mind when they suddenly see a bobblehead!! Hello Dad - now where is my food?? lol

They are beautiful Eagles and that chick is adorable! Its screaming to be fed! I hope they get the hang of parenthood really quickly. Are they as large as the bald eagle Lady Hawk?
Hi Jomama 02 Bald eagles are slightly larger than golden eagles in average height and wingspan, but there isn't much difference in average weight. Most people believe these two birds are closely related, but surprisingly this isn’t the case. Bald eagles belong to a group called “fishing eagles,” and are more closely related to kites. Golden eagles are more closely related to hawks called “Buteos,” such as red-tailed hawks. Adult golden and bald eagles have distinguishing characteristics in their coloring making it easy to identify the species. Both are large birds with dark brown bodies. The adult bald eagle has a noticeable white head and tail while the golden eagle has a brown head with “golden” feathers on the back of their necks. The adult bald eagle has a large, yellow beak, while the golden has a slightly smaller black beak. Golden eagles are referred to as booted eagles, since they are feathered all the way down their legs to the tops of their feet, while the bald eagle’s feathers stop a few inches from the tops of their feet.

So Happy Dad got the hang on brooding right away. Lady Hawk Spilve manage to feed her eaglet,? It seemed a bit tentative last time I saw her.. the nest doesn’t look like a well stocked pantry either. Keeping up with high hopes for a successful season at this nest😊
Yes Splive is doing a great job feeding her chick - she is a natural Mom!!
Is it still snow we can watch around the nest? Strange they did not have a fish in the corner,enable them to supply some food to the newly hatched??🤔🤔

Yes there is water nearby. They will eat fish, birds, owl, and mammals.

She could probably see or hear dad nearby.
I assume she was nearby because I heard her vocalizing so dad can take over brooding
She does for short breaks - most of the time she waits for Virsis before leaving.
