El aporte de presas es muy reducido y la hermana comienza a hacer valer su posición jerárquica en el nido.

Continua la escasez de presas y el pequeño machito pasa a formar parte de la genética de su especie a través de la supervivencia de la hermana.

Y que conste que en este vídeo van mis mejores deseos para ambos ejemplares de águila calzada, a los que deseo una larga y fructífera vida. Sería un absurdo y un sin sentido tomar parte por cualquiera de ellos dos, algo bastante frecuente en el ser humano.

Este tipo de comportamiento es muy normal en la aves de presa .además se tienen puestas de varios huevos,por si alguno no logrará sobrevivir,tener un "stock" de pollos.puede parecer cruel,y es cruel.pero pensemos que lo mismo hacían los padres humanos en siglos anteriores.Se tenían muchos hijos porque debido a enfermedades, desnutrición,y un sin fin de situaciones,el índice de mortalidad era alto.Se aseguraban un "stock"de mano de obra infantil.Eso si que daba lastima.los hijos crecían sin el cariño de sus padres,que veían en sus hijos , prácticamente como mercancía.

I remember when I watched the video where the bigger bird killed the smallest.. I thought at the time that it was a normal sibling rivalry.. Until I watched another one where I saw the youngest one being the bully!

The next day after this it was the older sister who assaulted the boy until he was killed (it is common in this species) and the mother fed the elder with the boy's body. I’m wondering if the youngest’s aggression stemmed from hunger? It was raining for days- or longer and we know birds either don’t hunt or have a difficult time finding food in the rain. Finally hunger hit the oldest and he saw his smaller brother as food. The youngest was always chirping for food while showing aggression to his older sibling. Just a thought. It makes sense.

A mí no me sorprende la inteligencia (o instinto) de la madre, esa no es su guerra.
A la madre le interesa más quedarse con una cría sola , un pico menos que alimentar y así más probabilidad de supervivencia para el pequeño y por eso no interviene .

I love eagle's, but hate this!! I saw a father eagle try to protect a baby runt, by partially covering it. The bully figured it out in a while, and eventually found and killed it. The mom didn't try to intervene, which is usual. The dad did, which is unusual.. Sad thing to watch little thing being attacked to death, then eaten!! It is nature, but still..

Eduardo, unos lo llaman "fratricidio facultativo", otros "cainismo" y otros "reducción de nidada".
La cuestión es que, después de un día casi completo sin comida, el pollo mayor eliminó al pequeño y su cuerpo sirvió de alimento para él y para la hembra al otro día, dos consecutivos casi sin aporte de presas.

Luz ya es curioso que el pequeño le haga esto al grande, habitualmente es al revés, al ser más grande y más fuerte, hasta que al final acaban matándolos porque no los dejan comer y por tanto picotazo, se van debilitando hasta que mueren. Me ha parecido muy curioso... pero al final ha sido el grande el que está con la madre? El pequeño muere?
