  • Klints is in the fast growth phase right now at 32 days old and is starting to stand up for short periods of time, taking baby steps, & doing some wing flapping! Today, Klints finds a small piece of bird on the nest and attempts to self feed! Klints tries to swallow it but it is too big so Spilve comes flying in. Apparently she was watching him and being the good Mom she is, came to feed him. She picks up the prey and Klints did not like that and takes it and mantles!! Good job Klints! Spilve easily takes it back and feds it to Klints and then departs. Thank you for watching!

    Virsis, a Golden Eagle male, and Spilve, a newly-mature Golden Eagle female, breed in their artificial nest, which was installed in 2010. Most recently the eagles successfully breed here in 2016. The nest is located in a bog on an island managed by the Latvian State Forests. Last year a female (Spilve) appeared regularly but she was too young to breed. For 2020, Spilve laid two eggs - on March 28th and April 1st. Egg #1 is non viable & egg #2 hatched on May 10, 2020.

    This little baby is just too cute! Love his chirps. His feathers are growing and he walks so well now too. So adorable! Standing tall and flapping his wings. Looks cute dragging a piece of nestover and trying to eat it. Klints is growing so fast, seems well advanced for 32 days old. Glad Mom returned to help feed.

    That baby is wonderful. He's cute when he stands up. And his mother's face when she is looking straight at the camera is adorable. Must be her big eyes.

    Wow only 32 days old. Very impressive. Oh I find them so fascinating and those chirpy vocals. Beautiful colors. Chatting away. Stands up pretty well. Still awkward moments 🤣. And I say again those feets kill me. Love this footage.

    This is a cute video. He has some big fat feet too!! HA! Soon mom won't be able to feed him, he was a little aggressive with Spilve for a moment there.

      Thank you Renee!! I think that we are going to see more aggression from the golden eaglet versus the bald eaglet ~ it will be interesting to watch!!

    Klints is so adorable! Loved the zoom in closeups of him standing and stretching! Beautiful pin feathers, too. Parents talons are short and thick compared to the WTE. Great opening scap! Thank you Lady Hawk:)

    Hello LH! Thanks for the video! This Latvian eagle seems to grow fast, or am I wrong? How does their growth rate compare to the American Bald Eagle? Are the growth rates the same?

    • @ladyhawk
      @ladyhawk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Instructor! Both the GE and the BE chicks grow at about the same rate but you will notice some difference in the their coloring now and also in the feathers on the the GE legs. Bald eagles are larger than golden eagles in average height and wingspan, but there isn't much difference in average weight. One way to distinguish a golden eagle from an immature bald eagle is leg plumage. The main difference between the bald and golden eagles is their coloring. Bald eagles look almost black, but they have a dark brown body contrasted by their white head, which makes them appear darker. The golden eagle is brown, but with golden highlights on the back of the head and neck. The GE is a very beautiful bird!!

      Lady Hawk thank you! I was thinking they look smaller than a bald eagle! Both are beautiful birds!

    Do they only have 1 chick. ?

    • @lilly19571
      @lilly19571 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you read history above, she had 2 eggs 1 non viable

    • @ladyhawk
      @ladyhawk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Golden eagles normally lay two eggs but only one chick usually survives due to cainism (older sibling killing the youngest or preventing it from being fed) In this case, it was a blessing that only one egg hatched! There have been rare occurrences where both eaglets did survive to fledge however.
