I knew many of these holidays from reading various things throughout the years, but it was the animated film 未来のミライ where I first remember hearing about 雛祭り.
I'm biased, but 春分の日 is my favorite because some years (I'm looking at you 2022, 2023 & 2027) it falls on my birthday, March 21st. Even though it will be a March 20th year, I specifically want to return to Japan in 2030 for my 還暦.

I have a personal experience with bon odori! One of my Japanese language professors had been a traditional dance teacher in Japan, and the students were given the opportunity to volunteer to take some bon odori classes and perform for the local Japanese festival at the botanic gardens! The Japanese embassy let us borrow matching yukata for the performance and the attendees followed along in a larger circle around us. It was a great experience!

I think about 2/3rds of the holidays are mentioned in Haruhi/Haruhi-chan. The Boys Day/Childrens day and setsubon being particularly memorable.
Though for New Years they mention lucky omens of dreams for seeing mount Fuji, an eagle and an eggplant which seemed interesting. What is the special significance of Mount Fuji that leads it to be a lucky omen?

Setsubun is so fascinating to me! So if the lucky direction changes each year, like how does that work? Is there like an almanac that dictates which direction is lucky each year way in advance, or is it selected by some sort of authority shortly before the holiday? Is there an order to it (like clockwise on a compass), or is it completely random each year?
