I saw Jonathan Frakes at a convention one time. Very nice and entertaining; funny as all get out. During the Q&A, a little girl asked why Commander Riker walked so funny, and without skipping a beat, he answered "that's because Jonathan Frakes used to move furniture for a living."

I’m better now, but I still go to sleep each night with one, or another ST. My Gen X son is a trek fan too and he also uses the shows to fall asleep. The most disappointing part of the new series is: only 10 episodes, with a year, or two in between seasons. I wish they’d return to more of the great dialogue and stories, simpler sets and less dependence on special effects so that we could have MORE episodes. It would seem that the tech today should make production easier, rather than harder, less expensive and take less time. They use to have to make all of those sets by hand. Now it’s all green screen. Maybe they could fix the ending of ST Enterprise with an AI version. I’d love to see a fan based contest to rewrite the finale season of STE and then have it produced with AI characters.

First of all ... I love Frakes. (Can I call him that? =) .. But what amazes me most about him is that he's been in like 6 or 7 Star Trek series, 200 episodes, directed however many ... But yet is still humble and open to collaboration and advice from other directors on how to act his character. The man is a class act. (No pun intended.)
@@CellPhonzRockEnterprises what really killed Enterprise was that UPN moved it to Fridays at like 8. UPN was a small network that no one got anyway, and that time slot was when everyone was out. This came after a decade of having multiple star trek’s on. We were spoiled. The show would have done great if they gave it a chance.
I watched Enterprise for the first time last year, having watched TNG/DS9/VOY while they were airing, and I greatly enjoyed all 4 seasons, and felt it definitely hit its stride by season 3. The only thing I didn't like were the time traveling Nazi plots, which just felt like political propaganda, so I started skipping those. But overall I like Enterprise 2nd best after TNG.
After 2 seasons I couldn't take it anymore. Had it not been for COVID, I would never have known any part of the series was worth watching. I've never liked the idea of prequels. Nevertheless, the one good thing can say about Enterprise was that it filled in a lot of continuity holes from the other series including the original vary nicely. Those shows were well written and enjoyable. The origin of the human type Klingons from the original series, for example.
I just found this show and I absolutely love it!!! I love the length and the casual warp and wend of the conversation. It has really kept me company. I have been binging episodes all week! Dom and Connor...Really happy to see you two doing this. Though I have always been a huge Star Trek fan I was living in England during the years Enterprise was running and somehow missed it in its first run but during the Pandemic with time to binge watch I binged Enterprise and I really LOVE IT! It was fascinating to see how they fit the show into the past of Star Trek I loved all four seasons for different reasons, And normally when I binge watch anything I skip the opening credits but the theme song (which at first I wasn't crazy about but came to love) kept me watching the opening credits for every episode. The words really reflex the feeling of the first two seasons!' I'll stop rambling now but wanted you guys to know that I love the Shuttle Pod Show and to also say how much I love Enterprise and it should have had a fifth season!!
Can I just say Thank You!! As a fan of Jonathan's Thunderbirds movie, I have always wanted a podcast or someone to ask him about it, and how he feels about it in 2023 so thank you guys!!
love this interview, had to watch it again after seeing a recent one with Mr Frakes on the inside of you podcast. He's a lot of fun. Cool to see all you guys/gals together.
Connor, Dom, Erica and Mark - congrats on another great episode! Another huge get for the Pod, and you pulled it off spectacularly as per usual. Mr. Frakes was very jovial and a great sport, didn't mind having a few laughs as at his own expense. (My younger sister and I quite enjoyed Thunderbirds when we were little - though she remembers far more of it than I do.) His short time as Captain America sounded wild, I wonder if anyone who got to see him would be up for sharing their story? While his tales about directing and his time on Picard/TNG were fun, my favourite aspect of this episode was getting to know his stance on the Enterprise "finale". I know it gets discussed alot by the fanbase but getting to hear an opinion from someone (aside from our lovely hosts) that was a part of it was really cool. That's awesome you've managed to snag Levar for a future episode, I'll be looking forward to that one. As a big Tom Paris fan, I'd be overjoyed if you'd be able to get Robert Duncan Mcneil! All and all, another awesome episode, I'll be eagerly awaiting to find out who will be on next week. As always, happy Shuttlepod Sunday everyone! 😊🖖💚🍃
I just found this. I did not watch the show when it was on. I'm old, I loved TOS. But my husband and I just bought and watched the whole series in 2 weeks. The Enterprise “valentine” to the fans was just so wrong and I'm glad everyone acknowledges that. When Trip died I just cried my eyes out. Love to all of you.
Another wonderful show guys, well done. It's not often I can be on the ground floor of a channel as it breaks out in popularity. Please don't forget us little people when your channel become super famous, guys! Much love to all!
I am such a fan of The Bill. Hearing Dominic Keating and Jonathan Frakes talking about The Bill is like having my two big fandoms collide. Thank you, this was a fun watch!
10:34 - Someone should really tell Connor that his character lived on in novels, after faking his death, and being a member of Section 31. 12:00 - For All Mankind is just beyond amazing.
Well things in novels and even comic books is hard to call canon because it doesn't have the quality of an ANNOUNCEMENT that a mainstream platform has. If they brought back Optimus Prime in a comic or a novel, nobody really would know or even care, but because he was brought back on National Television it's definitely official and directly canon. The whole concept of Trip btw on Section 31 is pretty interesting because it shows how old that dept. is.
I absolutely love hearing the truth about working in television and movies and not the scripted pablum we usually get. It's wonderful to hear the struggle and the success that people have and to be told truth about what why on with the cast. Frakes and Joe Franklin I think were the absolute best in honesty. Bravo guys on a great show. This is the only video podcast that I watch. When one is a true fan of a show it's a gift to hear the reality behind it all. Thank you. ❤
I've been rewatching the Star Trek shows and as I do when I'm watching them I look up things to find answers about obscure lore or things that intrigue me and I find this podcast, so glad I did!!!!!
God, Frakes has so much charisma! He's one of those guys I would love to have a beer with and just listen to him tell stories. I could listen to that man talk all day!
Just wanted to say thank you so much for everyone of these wonderful gems! This podcast always makes my day! Such a privilege to hear from every one of these incredible guests! For a massive lifelong Star Trek fan like me and others around the globe you really are spoiling us! Thank you so much and keep up the incredible good work every one of you! Definitely one of my favourite podcasts ever! Thank you! Lisa, Scotland 😁👌🙏❤️
There's SO many more stories that can told for the crew of the NX-01, I really want to see that ship get it's refit. Trip DIDN'T die, If Paramount are going to be rocking one of straight to P+ then please please please, we NEED the OG crew. I confess it took me a little time to get into Enterprise, but now.. it's become a much loved part of my Trek. Connor & Dominic, I can only say that you guys definitely deserve to have the treklight shone on you both. Thank you to all the cast & crew that brought S.T. Enterprise onto our screens.
Another great interview and so glad to see the channel is starting to gain the props and recognition it deserves, with much more to come I hope. J. Frakes.... what a great actor, director, and person etc. One of the legends of Trek, no question.
it felt ever better then in TNG, much more complete a performance and so much emotion. I loved every scene with riker... Also hilarious, especially the pacifist worf dynamic.
What an absolutely lovely, lovely, warm man. I bet he’s great to work with and brings out the best in everyone when he directs. Thanks for a perfect episode! a wonderful conversation and the intimate atmosphere made us all feel part of it. I really didn’t want to let him go at the end. 🙏🏻
Enjoyed the heck out of this episode/interview. I'm really feeling that you all are finding your footing on this and look forward to more! Definitely would love to hear more behind the scenes technical and directing and producing stories (I myself am not into the TMZ stuff; who didn't get along, who did, etc..). Keep up the great work everyone! Star Trek: Enterprise 10-part streaming reunion show where we find out Trip didn't actually die, when?
Frakes seems like such a friendly, warm guy. I was so happy to see him on screen when he first appears in Picard. Like seeing an old friend, even though i've never met him
Just stumbled on this podcast, time to go backwards and catch up! Our family just started rewatching Enterprise just a couple weeks ago, still my favorite of the Trek shows!
I'm so glad that you got Jonathan Frakes on Shuttlepod Show! He is great. So funny and such great stories. I can imagine this podcast could have gone on for 6 hours and you all wouldn't have run out of banter. I look forward to Levar Burton soon and hope that, one day, you get Sir Patrick.
Given how much Star Trek I watch I'm surprised it took the algorithm this long to recommend this channel to me. Great episode and I really enjoyed the non-StarTrek stories Frakes told.
Absolute pleasure catching this live today (finally now that working and podcasting is settling down) and I have to say what an interview. You guys are going from strength to strength every week. Frakes is so awesome! Looking forward to the future guys!
Fantastic show guys.. I said a while back that it this show was the best Star Trek content online... It's now become one of the highlights of the week.. Look forward to every episode.. Congratulations on you success, long may it continue...
"Belay that order. I can't leave him. I owe him a lifetime the least I can spare is a minute. I'll see you soon". Unarguably the most heroic line of all time in any Star Trek, ever. What a moment. Troy knew immediately, her look was devastating. This was really it. With Worf beside him RIker showed everything about why we adore these characters, this ship and this show. What a storied performance across decades to reach that moment. Fantastic history. Yes, I was in pieces and it was glorious! Well done Terry.
And let's not forget that one Twilight Zone episode he was briefly in lol. I remember it being about a secretary, and she became a part of some fantasy where Frakes shows up at a bar like prince charming.
Every beginning actor or director should see these interviews. Especially with Jonathan Frakes explaining the highs and lows of his wonderful career. 😎🖖
This show has become my regular Sunday morning coffee, toast and cigarette viewing, however busy day today so could not watch this morning or have a chance to go on TH-cam, got home from work Sunday night/Monday morning at 3am, thought to put on a quick half hour of TH-cam before bed. suffice to say I didn't go to bed its now 0440am and the sun is coming up. Thanks for a great episode, was stoked when you had Gates on a few weeks ago but seeing Jonathan who played my favourite character on TNG was something special to me as growing up he was a hero of mine. Thanks for a great show, always looking forward to the next :) Live Long and Prosper
I'm from the UK, I first saw Jonathan Frakes in a guest starring role on an episode of The Waltons on Channel 4 in the mid-Eighties. I thought he had an interesting look. When I saw him later in Encounter At Farpoint I remember thinking, "That's the guy from The Waltons!"

I hope Mr Frakes well see this. It was a pleasure to watch this but not like when I saw and met him at his first Star Trek convention in Tampa Florida. Patrick Steward was supposed to be there but had to cancel so Mr Frakes took his place and it was GREAT! As a matter of fact, it was at this convention that he first sported the beard and it went so well that he kept it for the rest of the show....lol...he was a wonderful guess star and he signed a black & white photo of him. I cherish it but unfortunately something in the photo itself destabilized and was unfortunately ruined but I have my memory. Mr Frakes, if you read this you may remember me, I had a fully lighted by my own design that I showed you at the signing table and you signed the base for me. I really loved watching you all in action once again! It was like getting the 8th season of Next Gen we never got so thank you!
What a great big smile on my face seeing these guys fight against the current.. Just stopped by to say hi to my favourite podcast on the whole of the internet! All my love and hope to the best franchise ever to hit the tv, and now, the internet. You guys are welcome at my house forever!
All I can say is that the ""Shuttlepod Show"is one of favorites... You give your guests the ability to expand on things that are important to them, and have a damned good time doing it. Well done, all around, and it was a pleasure to see Jonathan Frakes at ease. Thank you for this.
Totally not related to STNG but I had to chuckle bout Jonathan telling stories of when his bride played Laura on General Hospital. My sister Laura looked very much Laura and in her late stage fluffy headedness our granny would confuse the two of them. She would call my mom almost every day after GH Laura got up to something as she was so worried my sister was in trouble. My Laura died a year ago and this was such a joyful reminder of them both, thank you. Also ,love what you are doing with these conversations, you seem to get your guests to share some wonderful private memories.
Dominic and Connor remind me a lot of Dominic Monaghan (Merry) and Billy Boyd (Pippin) and their continued antics/relationship after the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Like them, you two have continued, amazing chemistry together, and it's a joy to see.
Jonathan is just so genuine! I love this guy! Fortune enough to have met him twice! My family lives here in NEPA between Happy Valley and Bethlehem PA. Jonathan grew up here.....I have just lived here in the last 3rd of my life. I guess I just want to have the simplest connection to this man!
I came for the Star Trek talk, but I've stayed for the Industry insights. (I'm not in any acting or anything, I just enjoy learning behind the scenes talk)
Connor and Dominic were so completely amazing in Enterprise... I loved that series.. and wish it could have continued.. such great characters. Glad to be able to watch Connor and Dom use their amazing talent here to interview Trek actors.
@@ShuttlepodShow I'm sorry I unsubscribed. It was because of Terry Matalas who reminded me that you have to have faith to believe you can boldly go where no one has gone before. Star Trek is saved. Because it's Star Trek.
Thank goodness for this interview. I have come to appreciate Frakes more than I used to and understand him to be more thoughtful and mindful than the hard-nosed, officious and pretentious jerk the initial episodes presented him to be initially.

Thank you for the podcast and for sharing so many amazing stories about your life and career.
He is the real deal, and knows his work stands on its own.
These are my weekly acting notes - I can't thank you guys enough.
Love Frakes. His enthusiasm for everything he has worked on is always great.
So glad to see Jonathan Frakes on the show! Love his stories. Great interview! Thank you, Connor and Dom, Erica and Mark.
Enterprise got cancelled just as it started to get good. What a shame. Dominic and Connor were my 2 favourite actors! Great duo in the TV show.
100% facts. Enterprise was getting really good when they hastily canned it.
Enterprise deserves a movie.
Thank you Celeste! That’s awesome. We are glad you’re here!
Exactly my experience!
I’m still watching and omg Dominic please please let the guest finish
--and let the co-host finish.
Thanks Shuttle pod great yet again. Last scene of Picard you can see TNG cast literally are enjoying each others company it was great to see .
You guys are climbing up the ladder, here. When can we expect Scott Bakula and Patrick Stewart?
We are working on both. Can’t wait to announce it when scheduled.
You need Brooks too. We need a Captains panel! Make it so.
I'll bring the tea, earl-grey, hot.
@@ArthurDent_42 For Scott we need Ice tea....

Bless you Johnathan for gracing us with your presence 🙏
Johnathan Frakes is brilliant and I'm loving this interview BRAVO 👏 Shuttlepod Show ❤️🖖
Another wonderful show guys, well done.
Would be funnier if he'd be around as a ghost. A wraith, if you will.
personally i'd like them to do a set of TV movies and just retcon the last episode
The whole concept of Trip btw on Section 31 is pretty interesting because it shows how old that dept. is.
You guys keep getting better and better all the time! Incredible. The best Trek talk show ever.
Thank you. ❤
Thank you!
"Friends just shooting the shit" has got to be my favorite TH-cam genre.
We like it to! Thank you for stopping by!

Absolutely fantastic podcast. Glad I’ve found this, must say it’s the best for in depth interviews. I’m hooked. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Frakes is one of my all time favourites. Love how he says it like it is. Fantastic episode Shuttlepod crew.
Man i love this show so much. Everything about it is so well done! Much love you all
I'd never have guessed he struggled getting back into the character. Season 3 felt like he'd never stopped playing the character.
it felt ever better then in TNG, much more complete a performance and so much emotion. I loved every scene with riker... Also hilarious, especially the pacifist worf dynamic.
@@bigwoodfarmer he always has that sarcastic type of humor that I love because he manages to balance it so well that it doesn't seem egregious
@@bigwoodfarmer it definitely felt like all his years just made his Riker come across more fully formed. So wonderful to witness
Jonathan Frakes was a very cool & awesome guest on The Shuttlepod Show .
Like seeing an old friend, even though i've never met him
LOVE IT! Jonny Frakes is so much fun! Such a great show! Love you guys!
Just stumbled on this podcast, time to go backwards and catch up! Our family just started rewatching Enterprise just a couple weeks ago, still my favorite of the Trek shows!
Excellent! Welcome! Glad you found us!
I loved this show! It was great to listen to Jonathan Frakes. Thanks to you all!
So open and honest. Great interview.
Frakes is one of my favorite actors. From Star Trek to Beyond Belief
Same here, Jonathan Frakes is one my favorites!
And let's not forget that one Twilight Zone episode he was briefly in lol. I remember it being about a secretary, and she became a part of some fantasy where Frakes shows up at a bar like prince charming.
That freakin' Frakes gets funnier every time I see him.
Also, he just Riker Maneuver'd your entire Shuttlepod.
Every beginning actor or director should see these interviews. Especially with Jonathan Frakes explaining the highs and lows of his wonderful career. 😎🖖
Certainly Number One in my book! MrJonathan Frakes😍🖖 Spin-off should definitely have Riker in it!!! Thanks for another great show!
The phrase "Soong Family Singers" is gonna give me a giggle for a long time, Frakes.
i love you guys, all of you, thank you for doing these, every single episode is a gift.
Thanks for a great show, always looking forward to the next :)
Live Long and Prosper
I'm from the UK, I first saw Jonathan Frakes in a guest starring role on an episode of The Waltons on Channel 4 in the mid-Eighties. I thought he had an interesting look. When I saw him later in Encounter At Farpoint I remember thinking, "That's the guy from The Waltons!"
Frakes did a guest spot on "Quincy M.E." as a drug dealer who killed a woman and the only witness was a shut-in.
I remember seeing him on an episode of The Dukes of Hazzard in the early eighties. He was playing JD Hogg’s nephew. I think it was Jamie Lee Hogg.
So happy to see my fellow Lehigh Valley native and Penn State alum on the pod!
Did I just hear that Mr Burton is coming soon?
I've had a rough week and this just interview and announcement just made it all better.😅😊
Thanks guys!
PLEASE get Amanda Plummer on the show. Her acting was genius.
Such a stupid thing though, bring in a weird character for a finale. It could have been almost anyone from the last 30 years.
A - G R E E D!! That didn't work out how I envisioned it LOL but I so agree with you she is a treasure
She's a quality actress but the writing for her character was just awful. Like everything about Picard.
@@hannibalb8276 people say you can have any girl from Star Trek to be yours in the ribbon, everyone's like Bev einsign ro... I'm like, give me Robin lefler 🤩
I've got Reed and Tucker talking with number one about the librarians. Y'all I am in my nerd heaven 🤣
What a great big smile on my face
seeing these guys fight against the current..

Thank you Brandon!
Great channel. The effort to the fans from the star trek crews is unbeatable.
Enterprise had a perfect casting - the actors were spot on for the characters. Connor, Jolene and John were amazing in their role
Could not agree more. God, I wish they would have gone 7 seasons.
i loved star trek enterprise and especially malcolm reed and trip. i wish we had more of this series to watch.
We need a William Riker series
What makes this episode so cool is Franks openness to talking about what derailed his career, and how brutal the movie industry can be.
Hearing Dominic say he still has his original Thunderbirds toys brings my absolute joy. Fantastic!
We approve this message.
Love the interview! Thunderbirds was big in Canada when I was a kid.
I've never rewatched a season of anything until Picard season 3. Absolutely loved it.!!

Moby Dick was also in Wrath of Khan: "from hell's heart I stab at thee, for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee"
Yes. Kahn. Whilst the genesis device was overloading. Also the book is on the bookshelf in the housing structure at the beginning when Chekov and Captain Terrell are snooping around.
