I've talked to Marina Sirtis about Gargoyles and apparently she had a great time: "I got to work in my sweatpants, which was good, because they had the BEST craft services." 😂
Funny thing: someone here on YT mistaken him for voicing Deathstroke on a Batman animated movie. It was actually Thomas Gibson (Dharma & Greg, Criminal Minds).
God Jonathan is a good interview. I suppose years and years of cons and answering every conceivable question has made him good at it… but it strikes me that he’s just about the most personable guy on the planet. It’s any wonder the TNG cast have stayed friends for so long… they really did manage to find some of the greatest people in the industry and slap em together for that show.
Me too! I also watched that show when I was young. It was inspirational. I really like his voice - and only discovered who the actor was when I started watching Star Treck (recently, I wasn't a big TV watcher at all, for much of my life) and I noticed the voice - and learned it was Jonathan Frakes!
I grew up with TNG, am 38 and I still love it. I rewatch the whole thing star to finish every few years. This final season of Picard is gonna leave me in bits when it finishes…. Jonathan Frakes is a legend, the No. 1 line between Riker & Picard was 👌🏻
As a Star Trek:TNG and General Hospital fan, I’m loving this interview, for both Jonathan Frakes’ stories about his own work and his wife, Genie Francis
So good to see Jonathan Frakes again! I grew up with Star Trek, and have been watching the countless different shows and series that have come since! I am 71 now and can never seem to stop watching them! This interview was great to see! I wish you the best in all you do!
Love Jonathan Frakes, this was fantastic and could have easily listened to you two for 2-3 hours. I hope he does come back again, within a year or so! Also look forward to other possible Star Trek actors on your podcast!
I just finished listening to this episode and it was delightful. Jonathan definitely opened up and I definitely learned so much about him. It was sad to hear how his brother died. The stories that he told about his dad were very touching. I definitely learned something new about Sir Patrick Stewart. Who knew there was wrestling that happened on set. Definitely have him on again. Have a great day.
Mr Frakes most underrated work was as executive producer and director on Roswell - easily the most underrated WB show from the late 90s/early 00s. He even appeared on one episode.
Always loved how his natural humor comes through as Riker. You can tell he wants to simply burst out laughing but can't. I think most actors are full of themselves but Mr. Frakes seems to down to earth and genuine.
I've adored this man since I was in 8th grade, when my history teacher played North and South! He's such a genuine person and I love that he and Genie Francis are still going strong!
I so loved Jonathan Frakes' stories of meeting his wife and Patrick Swayze. That was a miniseries that was quite spectacular in the day. Thank you for this fun and engaging podcast!☺
WOW, that was such a great interview. Jonathan was so forthcoming and easy to listen to. He was the kind of guy you could listen to his stories for days. Can't wait to watch Picard. 💕
I first saw Frakes in the 1980's THE TWILIGHT ZONE episode "Can She Type?". This episode aired a few months before TNG was premiered. He is a legend in his own right!
The pot story was the best thing I’ve ever heard. What a warm genuine man, all the interviews I’ve watched here are great but the calm self-possessed Frakes is a joy to behold. You can see the playfulness he brought to Ryker still has that mischievous twinkle in his eye! 😂
I CAN NOT GET OVER HOW F*CKING HONEST THESE TWO ARE WITH ONE ANOTHER - IT"S GREAT!. Just two experienced people who worked hard talking shop. Frake and Rosenbaum are both examples of a "worker's actor". In it for the grind and the love of doing it and knowing their worth and weaknesses. Awesome.
That was such a great interview. Thanks Michael! Big thanks to Jonathan for agreeing to come onto the show. It’s really great hearing actors open up and tell their stories , and with such sincerity. .
I was raised on Next Gen. I particularly remember being sad down next to my dad and marveling at their make believe world. When my father passed of a heart attack, I rewatched from episode one. Man, I have to say this show really holds up where a lot of other from the same time just don't have the staying power. Frakes is a class act, can't wait to see you two speak again.
I'm making my way through the series now, cause I grew up watching it but I never saw it from beginning to end, only episodes here and there. I thought I wouldn't enjoy the first couple of seasons cause of how old it was and how it looked compared to the later seasons but, man, there were some REALLY good episodes in those earlier seasons.
Thank you Michael and Jonathan for sharing your personal stories about your loved ones. I appreciate the vulnerability and honesty you gave us in this interview. It brought me to tears.
What a guy!! Ok, so Nathan Fillion is still my favorite guest, but Jonathan is a very, very close second. Class act, top shelf!! These are the guys you want to sit on a boat with for 12 hours and then do it all over again the next day. I love that he drops the F bomb like a normal freaking person. I cannot tell you how much I would love to meet this guy and share ALL my ideas for books, shows and shorts. I have soooo many ideas and Number One seems like the guy who would listen, help out and mostly, shoot straight. Damn, what a guy!! Thx Michael. You are a rock star, so keep it up.
This has been such an enjoyable episode so far. I am learning so much about Jonathan. I watched him on Star Trek The Next Generation and enjoyed his character. Happy Valentine’s Day y’all.
Johnathan, as a Trek fan, this IS just like the opening of First Contact. Watched the first three episodes, and they're amazing. I've got THAT feeling again. Thanks to all of you!!!
I remember having a bedtime after MacGyver ended at 9pm on Mondays. After which my mother would put me to bed and go to bed herself. A few minutes later my father, unbeknownst to my mother, would open my bedroom door to let me know the coast was clear. For the entire seven seasons my father and I would watch The Next Generation, past my bedtime, where I fell in love for an optimistic view of the future. Years later, I told this story at a family reunion and my mother turned and slapped my father in the arm saying, "that's why he was so hard to wake up on Tuesday mornings!" Thank you Jonathan et al for the fond memories. And quite the calibration for a glass half full view of reality. That we, as humans, indeed play the most important role of what our future holds. I love you all so much. Cheers.
TNG was MY Star Trek. I was a teenager when it premiered. I will always have a soft spot for the show. Thank you for having Jonathan on! And Michael, I would listen to your wonderful voice read the phone book, definitely!
I met Mr Frakes at a convention and he was the most down to earth, nicest guy ever. He jumped down into the crowd after the panel and just smooshed. I got to talk to him for about half an hour and he never once made me feel he was being put upon. He genuinely likes talking to the fans.
Jonathan Frakes is such a big part of my childhood and life so he feels so familiar that I have a feeling like I'm listening to my uncle being on podcast 😂 He is such an easy going person and a genuine good guy! Great podcast!
I've only ever watched your shorts, and thought that's what I was getting, and here I am an hour and a quarter later, riveted to my seat! Have honestly never watched a single TH-cam video for this long, ever. Michael, Jonathan - thank-you for both being so open and regaling us with your amazing and personal stories.
Met Jonathan at an airport, and he was so kind. They say never meet your heroes, but I'm thankful to meet one of mine because he was just so great. Really great interview.
This was amazing, loved every minute of it. Crazy how down to earth, cool and personable Jonathan is. Season 3 of Picard has been nothing short of fantastic, enjoyed every episode so far, such a great send off of the TNG Crew.
WRATH OF KHAN will always be the best STAR TREK movie, but I think #2 is FIRST CONTACT, so I've always had a high regard for Mr. Frakes as a director. Great interview, definitely sounds like someone you could just hang out with and chat.
I love that he's like: Well, if this is a home, imma take off my shoes and put my feet on the table. Very much like how he'd swing his leg over a chair as Riker. I'm here, so I'll be comfortable. 💗
Love these shows I haven't listened watched these much but I'm now getting hooked loved Micheal on Smallville thought his interpretation of Lex was great could listen to Michael all day. Massive fan of Jonathan Frakes learned a lot about him that you would never guess
Wow Jonathan another awesome guest love these older guest and the stuff you guys talked about what a treat. I been so sick for almost a week, even with the Covid shot. I still got it really bad I feel like I am dying haven’t been sleep. Your podcast has been a big comfort just listening your voice. I have never missed an episode since you started your podcast Michael. Keep bringing them Micheal you Rock!!!
Michael, this interview is the perfect example of how your podcast humanizes and deconstructs some of the people who I previously only viewed as the roles that they played in some of my favorite TV shows. This was a joy to watch.
That's a great interview, thanks to share it! Mr. Frakes is so polite, humble, kind, professional... real. I love him. And it's thanks to him if star trek still alives its original and pure Roddenderry's inspiration and yes, I agreed, Data is the best character. Ever. Of any ST. Wow, that's a great show! (Greetings from Rome, Italy)
I was lucky enough to meet Mr. Frakes in person at Comiccon Montreal in 2014, along with many actors from the cast of TNG. I was lucky enough to arrive later in the day so there were no lines to get an autograph. I had a good 10 minute conversation with both him and Mr. Dorn. Not gonna lie, felt like pretty special moments for me. Great person to have a conversation with, well spoken and just great. Great episode!
I'm only half way through this episode, but I'd just like to say that First Contact was huge for me, what a movie. I hope he knows how much that movie still means to some of us. TNG was only on the BBC back then, English is not my native language, switched on the subtitles and that's basically how I learned English.
You have THE BEST GUESTS! Seriously now....this show is astounding. Whatever you're doing....keep on doing...keep these wheels, that roll in these amazing guests, well greased and maintained. You're talks are so fun and so serious....great show!
I did not expect him to be so chill 🤣,but I've never seen him interviews. Seems like a very solid just chill guy, this one of those ones that flew by and still want more. Also thank you for putting a spotlight on that prenuvo thing. Hopefully it will expand quickly because I think it will definitely be a game changer in medicine I hope and be affordable.
I saw the first and last Star Trek, i love them! What a podcast still full of humanity, so moving but with very funny anecdotes too,as you know so well to lead it, Michael 💙💔🥰 Thank you as well as Ryan !!
OMG. Loving every moment of this with THE Frakes himself. Between the TNG and North and South stories, I am in Heaven. You and this podcast are simply the best. No one else compares. Thank you Rosey ❤❤🙏🏻.
I'm only partially familiar with the Star Trek world, but I remember watching Jonathan in The Next Generation and then more recently in Picard, but I had no idea he directed too, and just how much he has directed, he has worked on everything. I thought this was a really lovely episode, I loved hearing him talk about his dad and his brother so sweetly and openly. I think the thing that came across the most for me about Jonathan was his warmth, I love the way he relaxes and takes his shoes off, so comfortable with himself and others, how he is curious and asks questions, and he seems to love to share the fondness and love he has for others, like the way he gently insisted on complimenting Michael, and sharing with him the nice things others had said. This was just a really lovely episode to listen to, and it has made me want to go and watch more Star Trek ❤ (Also, I'm not convinced he is 70 😄). Thank you Jonathan, and thank you Michael and Ryan
Jonathan Frakes might be my new favorite interview. It's a tough call between him, John Schneider, and John Glover. They're all great. Star Trek TNG and the various movies was something my stepfather and I bonded over when I was kid back in the 80s.
Mr Rosenbaum, I have to say I just found this podcast and it was a fantastic!! Thank you for being REAL with Johnathan Frakes. You and him were just really easy to listen to. I appreciiate the little ancedotes and stories you both told. Just by far one of my favorite podcast I will be going back and watching/listening to all of them now.
I love this so much! I always listen to the shows when I'm on my morning walks. I live near Seattle and it's freezing out here right now! when the show gets me emotional and I shed a tear? that shit is COLD! like my nose and eyes freeze immediately! stop making me cry bro!
Amazing!! What a guest!! So looking forward to this. Next mission Michael and Ryan - Poolhall Junkies reunion with Captain Chris Pike (Anson Mount)! Make it so!!!

This man has been in my life as Riker for 36 of my 42 years. TNG was my childhood. Great episode and man.
Kinda the same here (I turn 42 in a few weeks as of this post).
Likewise.
Same.
I'm 47. Star Trek TNG taught me how to act like an adult. So many life lessons.

The casual F-bombs are a great departure from his most notable character.

I met Mr Frakes at a convention and he was the most down to earth, nicest guy ever. He jumped down into the crowd after the panel and just smooshed. I got to talk to him for about half an hour and he never once made me feel he was being put upon. He genuinely likes talking to the fans.
Could listen to Frakes talk for hours. Such a beautiful voice in your ears :) Thank you for having him on AND inviting him back!!
Great seeing the inner workings of the industry and some heart felt discussion
I think it is awesome that these sponsors believe in your podcast.
I love it when the guests just it all go. What a great episode and guest.
My favourite Star Trek movie is the Phanton Menace.
First contact - the best ever trek movie.

First Contact with Jodie Foster was great, yeah!
Two of my favourite childhood heroes. Loved listening to this 😊
Great conversation, Mr Frakes is one od my favorite actor od my childhood, TNG and X-files were my favorite shows
One of best episodes. I hope you have him again.
This has been such a pleasure! Thanks for this one brother.
This is the only Podcast I listen to. Thank you for having Jonathan Frakes on he was a massive delight and my favorite episode so far!!!
One of the very best interviews that I have ever seen!
Have watched it at least four times already and watching it again today at 4am…
I saw the first and last Star Trek, i love them! What a podcast still full of humanity, so moving but with very funny anecdotes too,as you know so well to lead it, Michael 💙💔🥰 Thank you as well as Ryan !!
This was fantastic. I could listen two you guys talk forever.
OMG. Loving every moment of this with THE Frakes himself. Between the TNG and North and South stories, I am in Heaven. You and this podcast are simply the best. No one else compares. Thank you Rosey ❤❤🙏🏻.
I was a fan of Jonathan Frakes before, but after seeing him here being relaxed and conversational, I think that he’s a cool guy. He seems very humble.
You have the most interesting guests and really dive into things. Thanks to you and Jonathan for putting this together!
I grew up loving Riker on TNG. It's great to see how genuine of a person he appears to be.
I love listening to Jonathan talk. He always gives great interviews. He's so funny and informative. Thank you.
Wish you would have talked about his voice over work. Like Gargoyles. but that being said great interview as always Michael.
I was just watching “Beyond Belief:Fact or Fiction” with Jonathan Frakes. I realized how much I loved that grin of his!
This was a very enjoyable episode and very easy on the ear, you both seemed at ease in each other’s company😀
One of my favs! Frakes is such a significant part of my youth. Love seeing him here.
Jonathan Frakes might be my new favorite interview. It's a tough call between him, John Schneider, and John Glover. They're all great. Star Trek TNG and the various movies was something my stepfather and I bonded over when I was kid back in the 80s.
Well here's a suggestion, say your favorite interview was with John.
Fantastic show! Can't wait to see you bring on Brent! :D
My first TV crush…🤤
I could listen to him speak forever ❤
Jonathan Frakes is so cool ! One of my favourite episodes , lost one of my parents to Atlzheimers & and its soul destroying to watch the one you love fade away
I also lost my grandmother to Alzheimer's, and Dementia. Also my aunt, to cancer. And someone dear to me, lost their mom to cancer.
😞I totally understand
Oh my goodness that was soooooooooo enjoyable!😃
I’ve been a fan of his wife Genie Francis since 1979 when I was little. Hope you have her on as your guest in the future. I’m sure there are lots of Laura fans out there.☺️
So excited to listen/watch this!! Your podcast is the best Michael ❤ Thank you for all you do ❤️ Happy Valentine’s Day ❤️
