how to make hot cross buns/fruit buns/spiced buns

  • recipe credit Gawa's kitchen
    ingredients
    4+1/2 cup Cake flour
    1 packet of instant yeast(1 tablespoon)
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/2 cup castor sugar
    2 teaspoon fine cinnamon
    2 teaspoon mix spice
    1+1/2 cup warm milk
    50g melted butter cooled
    1 egg
    1+1/2 cup fruit mix
    ps i used 1 cup
    knead to smooth elastic dough
    transfer to oiled bowl
    proof for 30-40 minutes or until double in size
    knock down and shape into buns
    white lines
    1/2 cup cake flour
    5 tablespoon water
    mix to stiff paste
    tip remember your buns will fim up upon standing that is due to butter content just place in microwave for few seconds wil softened again😊
    180 degrees oven
    let it rise again
    pipe lines or leave as is
    egg wash and bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until done.
    remember all ovens vary in heat
    remove from oven and brush with apricot jam
    or make a syrup by boiling
    3/4 cup sugar with 1 cup of water

    Looking out for a South African recipe. Adore these bun's. So here's this familiar accent all the way from my country. Even though it's way past Easter who cares. Hot cross bun's can be made anytime of the year. I'm living in Italy. Got all the ingredients to get started. Thanks for your recipe. ❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉

    4 and half cups flour
    1 pkt yeast
    1 tsp salt
    2 tsp cinnamon
    2 tsp mixed spice
    Half cup castor sugar
    1 and hLf cups of Luke warm milk
    50g marvello butter
    1 whole egg
    1 cup raisins
    Oil while kneading on surface
    Half cup cake flour and 5 tablespoon for the cross
    Brush melted apricot jam on top
    Egg wash before putting in oven

    Can you use millilitres and grams in your videos bcz I find that most cup sizes do differ I have 2 measuring cups the one is 250 ml and the other one is 235 ml that’s why sometimes I don’t get the right constancy

      I've always used cups and Also have different cups but if u want to convert u can always just punch into Google it always comes up 1 cup of flour 125g but 250 ml in a cup 1 cup sugar is 200g but 250ml in a cup and so fort

      Hi there, I'm not sure the confusion but there's a packet of yeast in the dough if u in South Africa u usually get the packets in any supermarket

      Could be from the jam coating but not sure shouldn't be hard,instead of jam coating u could make a simple syrup 2 parts sugar 1 part water like u would do for koesisters.

      I've never made it using All purpose flour so can't say but I'm sure it shouldn't be a problem.

    I want to try your recipe I’m in the US. you said mixed spice , cause I can’t find mixed spice like in the US . What spices do I mix together ?

      substitute for mixed spice in a recipe and don't want to make your own you can just use Pumpkin Pie Spice instead. Both are made up of similar spices.
