- This knitting lesson shows you how to do the 'knit 1 below' and 'purl 1 below' stitches, which simply involve doing a knit/purl stitch into the loop below the one you normally use.
Thanks for watching!

This was perfect! Thank you! I’ve only known how to do the knit stitch, and just recently learned the purl! But I found out I needed to know how to K1B for the fisherman’s stitch and with your help I’ve got it down! Thank you so much!
Great! Good luck with the fisherman's rib...it's a nice stitch that one :) Thanks for your comment
Thank you thank you thank you I have watched so many videos trying to work out this stitch but none of them made much sense, then I found yours and it made sense, you take your time, explain thing slowly and by opening up that stitch I could actually see what I was meant to be doing. Thank you 😊😊😊

THANK YOU!!!!
Thanks for watching :D
Ugh! Not sure what I am doing wrong...end up with big loops and yarn not secured on back of work. Had the stitch done got half way thru a project made a mistake started over not I can't seem to do stitch right! Help!!
Oh no! Unfortunately without seeing your work I can't say for sure, but there are a couple of ways you can go wrong with this stitch; the first is where you put the needle into the wrong stitch in the knitting to begin with, and the other is if you then pull the working yarn back through the wrong stitch. When I first tried this stitch I made the second mistake, where I pulled the yarn back through the stitch I would usually use in a 'normal' knit stitch . I hope you figure it out OK
I have the same problem,its a nightmare.
Do you have a video of the set up rows to this? I understand it when I watch the video, but when I try it after the cast on, and a k1,p1 row, I have a hard time finding the p1b at the beginning and end of that row.
Hi! I was knitting fisherman's rib, so this video should help you out:
th-cam.com/video/4JSVHccSktE/w-d-xo.html
@@RokoleeDIY Thank you. I know how to knit in the row below. It was the purl in the row below that I was struggling with. I think I have it now though. It seems easier in the round.
@@jamieboc491 Ah sorry I misunderstood...I'm glad you've sorted it out now :)
I know i have to do this (m1 with the row below) but how do i know if it's in the front or in the back ? My previous row was a purl (,on circular). Does that mean that the m1 must be a p1b ? (In the pattern it's k1, m1).
Hi! If your instructions don't specify, I would stick with what you are currently doing on that particular row. So if you're on a knit row currently, do a k1b, and if you're on a purl row currently, do a p1b. It really depends on the row you are currently on rather than the one before :)
Can you please do a video of this pattern?
Row 1: *P1, k1b, repeat from *across 16 sts, p1.
Row 2: *K1, p1b, repeat from *across 16 sts, p1.
Row 3: Same as Row 1.
Row 4: Same as Row 2.
Row 5: P1, k1b, p1, put next 5 sts on a cn and hold in front of work.
On the next 6 sts k1b, p1, k1b, p1, k1b, p1, go back to the 5 sts
on the cn and k1b, p1, k1b, p1, k1b, then p1, k1b, p1.
Rows 6, 8, 10: Same as Row 2.
Rows 7, 9: Same as Row 1.
I have no trouble with row 1 but figuring out where to put the needle
in row 2, 3, 4....HELP!
Hmm now that is a tricky one! I didn't think you could stack k1b or p1b (have them in the same place on subsequent rows), but it looks like this pattern wants you to.
Do you have a link to this pattern? Is it online, with a photo?
I had a little search and found this discussion:
forum.knittinghelp.com/t/staggered-brioche-rib/14576/3
Where this question has seemingly stumped everyone else too! I would double check that k1b in your pattern definitely means knit 1 below, but otherwise I'm afraid I can't be much help because I don't know. All of the patterns I've followed with k1b or p1b always staggered these stitches rather than stack them.
What I don't understand is why this stitch is wider than a regular K1 P1 ribbing
I guess the yarn has to travel further so there's more yarn involved in the stitch...making it bigger? Not sure
Question? It seems to me that when I do K1B it goes into the same open space as the stitch in the last row. There is the double wrap on the row before. So do I go into that same wrap/space as in the next row. What am I doing wrong?
I'm afraid I can't quite visualise what you are seeing. You are knitting a k1B and there's something in that same position on the previous row that is making it difficult? What stitch is directly under the k1B you're trying to do? Sorry I can't help you, maybe type a couple of the rows of the pattern you're following? Thanks
@@RokoleeDIY I figured it out!!! Read the directions several times and thought I had them in my head!! Guess not. Finally I reread the directions and realized I forgot the part about knitting a row after the K1B row! That made my job easier. Thank you so much for responding.
@@caroldiamond5270 Excellent! I'm glad you cracked the case :)
The problem with this stitch is when you make a mistake because it’s well nigh impossible to take it back a row. One mistake can be catastrophic. All these videos don’t show you how to correct any mistakes.
Noted for if I make another video about this :)
