The GBA/DS era of castlevania games was amazing, every game that came out was great with different mechanics and monster designs (Excusing the reuse of some enemies) I wish we could have a revival of this formula of Castlevania games, hopefully Bloodstained's success will open Konami's eyes.
Symphony of the Night was a great game too. It feels like an actual console version of these (I know it's otherwise but, you get my point) unlike Harmony of Despair.
As much as I love Lament and COD I've been interested in what a 2D Igavania using PS2 hardware would've been like, basically zero hardware restrictions holding them back for graphics and audio (Symphony's graphics and audio are top notch but Yamane seemed to flex her muscle more for the PS2 entries, sprites and any 3D models wouldve looked better). At the same time it might've stolen from the GBA entries' thunder a bit, like too many similar games between handheld and console stealing each other's identity. They're controversial titles but the PS2 games had a lot of good mechanics and differentiated themselves compared to the rest of the series.
@@TheT3rr0rMask The reason the PS2 Castlevania's weren't in 2D was due to how successful the N64 titles were. This is one of the few Castlevania games that truly has a sinister environment. The music is, like, evil, the colors are nightmarish, and there is blood and devilish images everywhere.

For all it lacks when compared to Circle of the Moon, I loved Harmony of Dissonance for basically one reason. See, CotM came out in 2001. HoD came out in 2002. The GameBoy Advanced SP came out in 2003. That is to say, we didn't have lit screens when these games came out. CotM's graphics were so dark you couldn't see on a classic GBA without loads ambient light. (Not direct light. That screen was very reflective.) So, thank you Harmony of Dissonance for being... er... visible.
This game is incredible for a GBA title impo, I just got it with the advanced collection on switch!, few hours into it already and I think it’s my favorite castlevania game, this is so digestible and it’s not excruciatingly difficult, the controls are smooth everything runs excellent, the soundtrack is great, it’s not like some of the other castlevania titles that came out that sometimes feel clunky and painfully punishing in difficulty

Well the Vampire Killer whip is the weapon of choice for the Belmont family. Castlevania games like Symphony of the Night and the sorrow games don't have Belmonts as the main protagonist, so it doesn't matter that they don't use a whip.

A Google User That is not what he meant. It is possible to tell the player where to go while being subtle. The devs can place clues around the environement (or in upgrades) to envoke a memory of an area the player last visited, cluing them in as to where they need to go.
