Slap Shop is a masterpiece of Cinema. My wife saw it for the first time with me this past christmas in Florida. She loved it! That was probably the 15th time ive seen it. Yes, Slap Shot is the greatest hockey film ever. The two Carlson's and the Hanson did such a great job playing the Hanson Brother's. All three were great skaters.
I'd say it is the best sports movie ever......Broke so many rules back then and is sooooo incredibly popular all this time later as are the main characters.
Absolutely, Slap Shot and The Bad News Bears are the two greatest sports movies of all time, both from the 70's and both couldn't be made today (that's how you know they were so good 😂).
Met these guys at an autograph signing after a charity game in Seattle 20 some years ago. We were at the back of the line, and I was getting a little loaded. When we got to the table, I said "I found that machine that took your f'ing quarter" and put one on the table. Can't remember which one, but one said "I think it was Canadian, eh". Priceless moment I'll never forget. Thanks guys!
@@hulkhoganstights6596 It was a pretty amazing day, those guys were so friendly with everyone. They made an appearance during the game as ringers. Gretzky was a guest coach but didn't get to interact with him.
‘I’m listening to the f-king song’ was the highlight for me amongst all the highlights of this movie! Slap shot is my favorite sports movie. Thanks for the memories!
I love the part where the bus driver is beating the bus with a sledge hammer and they ask him "What are you doin?" And he driver says "IM MAKIN IT LOOK MEAN!!!"
Slapshot...My ultimate favorite movie...My hometown Hornepayne NW Ontario is where Goldie Goldthorpe grew up and played hockey...He was the inspiration for Ogie Ogilthorpe in the movie. Also a little known fact...It was the first American movie translated in french in Quebec. No doubt that Yvon Barrette/Denis Lemieux and Yvan Ponton/Jean-Guy Drouin had something to do with that...They would've say something like " If you do the translation in France like usual, It will sound totally stupid " In Quebec, Hockey is way stronger than religion 👍👍
This is awesome!!! So many memories of watching this flick over the years…. Its great to get a little history behind some of the scenes. Old time hockey never gets old!!!
When you talk about iconic movies immortalizing a time period and a sport, none ring as lovingly accurate as Slap Shot. Eddie Shore, old time hockey, for life.
I remember back in the 1990's, the Hansons came to Portland Maine as guests of the Portland Pirates and I thought they were gonna get thrown out of the building that night! Their antics were pushing the envelope but hysterical !
Steve - you’ve given so much to us fans over the years; the least we could do is support you through your tough time. No need to thank us ! I thank you for so many great memories. God Bless from Canada 🇨🇦
This movie will always have a special place in my heart. I was a little boy in the mid 80's when i saw it for the first time and fell in love with the sport instantly.
The Quebec adaptation is AWESOME! Curse words and all, it is a masterpiece this movie! I am only 26 years old but I grew up with my parents being staff during games in the local arena. When I found the VHS at 10, I would sneak it in my room to watch it with my friends, we had a blast swearing at each other like the Hansons!! Good memories!
My dad & I laughed throughout this movie. We were in tears it was so funny. My dad was a huge Montreal Canadians fan and used to see all of the greats play. When we moved to the US we went to a lot of Houston Aeros hockey games. Gordie, Mark and Marty Howe were all on the team. We saw Gordie score his 800th goal. Even though my dad saw the best teams in pro hockey he said a Houston Aeros - Winnipeg game was the best he had ever seen. The Aeros were down 4-1 with just over a minute to go and they ended up beating Winnipeg in the most excited game ever. My dad and I loved Slap Shot and especially the Hanson Brothers! They added to the hilarity! Another hilarious show we laughed all the way through was Blazing Saddles. Our stomachs actually hurt from laughing so much. Both those shows were masterpieces. This program is so great with Steve Carlson talking about the way things were. All the best to him!
When the ECHL formed Johnstown had one of the original franchises, The Chiefs. I went to many games. There is a junior hockey team that plays there now, Johnstown Tomahawks. Still a good time.
Some movies are overlooked when they come out. Some movies are like fine wine that get better with age. Slap Shot is one of those movies. Best wishes Steve!
As a huge fan of Slapshot, this was fantastic to see and hear about these actual filming locations. Thank you Steve! And best wishes to you for continued good health!

great movie.. i don't have the exact line but one of the funniest scenes ever was when the hanson brother told the ref to shutup during the anthem so he could hear the song . it just struck me as hysterical
That's the scene Steve talks about in the video where he said the actor playing the ref couldn't skate. You can even read Steve's lips when he says, "I'm listening to the f'n song".
I've seen this movie sooo many times and I still die laughing when the organist gets nailed with the puck. It was awesome to meet the trio at my local arena as a kid. Still have their signed photo on my wall
I remember the first time I saw the movie as a kid in my home country of Finland, it was in the late-1970's or early-1980's. Me, my brother, our dad and our friends gathered around the TV to watch the movie; we laughed out loud with tears in our eyes, it was so much fun! 😂 Our mom did not appreciate all the noise and screaming in our apartment building flat. Those moments will never return again but I am happy to have experienced them. So thanks again for all the wonderful memories of Slapshot, best regards! 🏒🏆🥊💥🇫🇮
Saw the Hanson brothers years ago at a Tampa Bay Lightning game when they were touring NHL Arenas. They had already done their schtick "water skiing" behind the Zamboni between periods. I went up to concession stand during next period and the Lightning rep was walking the three of them around the concourse to wherever it was they were supposed to go. I yelled over to them "HEY, I'll buy you guys a soda after the game" and right away they shot back "Yeah, but none of that stinkin' root beer". Funny stuff...

See Bennett Wolfe much? : ) ... You and the rest of the Hanson's posed for a pic with me when you guys came to the area for a charity game. So I’m watching the video with my parents. They grew up in johnstown. At the end during the movie trailer when Paul Newman comes up the middle woman is my aunt!!!! No one in the family ever knew. All these years. Great movie and great town.
Thank you for an incredible behind the scenes look at a classic! I still quote lines from it 40+ years later! And God bless you on your road to recovery! Way to go!!!!
I grew up in Rome. NY which is next to Utica NY and we used to go and see the Mohawk Valley Comets games. There is one scene in the movie where is was shot at the Utica War Memorial Auditorium. Slap Shot really captured what semi-pro hockey was like in the 70"s. It's now the Utica Comets and the place is the Adirondack Bank Center.
I've heard stories about how wild the old Comets games were. Glad the new Comets do pay homage to old Comets. My grandmother went to the filming at The Aud. She was a huge Paul Newman fan. For years, she only ever saw the edited version of the film and would call to tell us it was on tv. The first time she ever saw the unedited version, she frantically called us to tell us to turn it off haha.
The Comet games were really that off the wall. One time, when the Long Island Ducks came to Clinton to play the Comets, the fans were so mad at Long Island, they literally tipped their bus over
Kudos to Steve Carlson on a terrific job in the making of this Johnstown video. He is a great spokesman for Johnstown and a really nice energetic fellow. I played hockey in high school and in an old timers league 30 years ago. I hope Steve continues to do well and so happy to hear he’s in remission.
