    Great video Steve!
    My Dad would have loved this car!
    Though he loved the 396! But, I don’t think he’d turn down the 427! Black on Black!
    I remember him specifically mentioning that he’d love to have one! I was nine years old then, I still remember! I’m in my 60’s now! Happy Father’s Day pop! Miss you terribly!❤

    My first car was a 68 Camaro I bought from my sister in 1975. I raced it until the wheels fell off. In 1981 I bought a 69 Camaro that had a 6 cylinder originally. But was replaced with a 350 balanced and blueprinted. Awesome body and perfect interior.
    I miss the 68 the most.

    GM made the best looking and more importantly best quality muscle cars in the 60s. The 69 Camaro in any form is a great example.

    Nice Steve, good walk around, for the ultimate "belly button" car (everyone either has one, or wants one) LOL. I had a Chevy once, a 56 Belaire, I don't see many of those at cars shows but lots of these Camaros and their brethren! But never ever, not even once, have I ever seen one of mine, a 67 Mercury Cyclone GT, and only occasionally my 64 Ford Fairlane (you should do one of these sometime and talk about the amazing history of those as drag racing cars, the legendary Thunderbolt!!) And I have a 64 Comet Caliente, also seldom seen at shows, and "everyone" wants to buy it!! Both are red, of course! And don't even get me started on the real Ranchero (they will come out with a "new" one, LOL, this year), mine is a 1964-year car also!! LOL ;D

    This is THE Camaro to me and always will be! I had a very good condition 6 cyl. "69 for a few years in the mid '90's and had plans for all the upgrades you could want but money got tight and I let it go thinking I can always get another one later. Well, later has never come along "YET" and the prices have soared in the years since but it's always in the back of my mind to get another one and I hope it happens before the end.

      Some of the bigger classic car companies have financing available, so you don't have to plunk down the full amount, if you can swing it as a monthly payment. Thats how a lot of us old guys bought our first muscle cars back in the day. I recall my first Mercury Cyclone set me back about 104 bucks per month, I had a good job but was living at home, until my Uncles Sam offered me a "new one for free" for two years!! LOL ;D

    Not a SS hood, it's the optional cowl hood you could get with the Z/28 and RS and even the base Camaro if you paid extra for it, the SS hood had 2 styles of fake chrome ornaments, finned style that resemble finned aluminum valve covers with 67 and 68 and what was called the Ice Cube Tray style in 69 and the 68 Z/28 was the first year the Cowl Hood was introduced and offered as an option not standard, the vast majority of Cowl Hoods you will see on the first gen Camaros are after market people put on, many even fiberglass.

    I had a 1980 Camaro sitting on the same 15x8 rally rims wrapped in 255/60r15 Dunlops on the back.
    15x7 rally rims wrapped in 225/70r15 Coopers. Same centers and trim rings.
    It turned that turd into a head turner with them shoes on.

    69 is the holy grail for me and this tribute might be the boss of 69 street camaros second to a COPO for value but on the strip the odds would be even.

    There were cooperative Chevy dealers who would sell you a new 396 Camaro and a 427 short block crate motor and install the 427 at a discount in exchange for your unused 396 block. There were a lot more of these running around than COPO cars. At least one Chevy dealer later advertised in Hot Rod dealer installed anything, up to 454 Vegas.

    • @markg7030
      @markg7030 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think there would be discounts and who would want a pile of 396 engines that need heads and manifolds etc. They swapped out 396 for 427 engines, it's easier to sell a complete 396 than to source all the parts to make it run. The biggest dealers were Nickey, Yenko, Baldwin and Berger.

    No, this started life as a garden variety six-cylinder Camaro.
    We got the VIN, we win: 1 for Chevrolet, 2 for Camaro, 3 for six-cylinder, 37 for two door coupe, 9 for 1969 model year, N for Norwood, OH assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Norwood, OH closed in August 1987 and production shifted solely to Van Nuys, CA through the end of the 1992 model year. Production of F body cars was then moved to St. Therese, Quebec Canada for model years 1993 through 2002.
    With the tag, we can brag: ST69 for 1969 model year, 12437 for Chevrolet (1) Camaro (24) two door coupe (37), NOR for Norwood, OH assembly, 711 for Black standard interior trim, 76 76 for Daytona Yellow lower and upper exterior paint, X11 for Style Trim Group, and 03E for the fifth week of March 1969 production. No, that is not correct. The trim tag of 124 does NOT denote the car had a V8, only the 2nd and third VIN code digits do and in this case, the VIN for this car has "23", so that is for a six-cylinder car and "24" would be for a V8 car. So, this started life as a six-cylinder when it left Norwood in March 1969.
    It can be confusing, but ONLY the VIN code digits tell you if it was a V8 originally, NOT the trim tag digits. The trim tag is only what Fisher Body would have been concerned with and they did not really care if it was a six or an eight cylinder in most cases as that was the responsibility of the assembly side of the plant (often on the other side of the wall from the Fisher Body plant).

      Didn't he say 12437, not 12337?

    • @googleusergp
      @googleusergp ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joejackson9172 He read the trim tag, which doesn't tell you if it is a six or an eight cylinder equipped vehicle. Only the VIN tells you that, and the HOC website shows that this car was originally a six-cylinder vehicle. Mr. Magnante is incorrect to use the trim tag for the V8 reference.

    • @ChingusTheOneAndOnly
      @ChingusTheOneAndOnly ปีที่แล้ว +3

      302 was standard on the Z28’s , You are thinking of the ZL1 427 all aluminum engine , 69 of those were built along with 2 or 3 1969 Corvette’s.
