In 1970, as a high school kid I worked at Nickey Chevrolet (backwards K) in Chicago doing oil changes and other shop duties. Nickey had a very large, stand alone performance department with engine build room, parts dept, installation room. They had one old guy building both big and small blocks. He was a mean old guy but at any given time he had probably half dozen or more engines on stands in various stages of build. You see, at Nickey you could order Camaro, Nova, Corvette, Chevelle without any drivetrain. The train line runs right behind Nickey and they would have forklift take the brand new cars off the rail car and drop right there at the dealership. You could order the engine/trans/rearend combo pretty much how ever you wanted. But to make a long story just a bit longer. So as a result of my dad's kid (me) working at Nickey Chevrolet he bought the dealership owner's demo car which was a 1970 SS 454 LS6 TH400/3:55 posi axle Monte Carlo. Had 3500 miles on it. And as a high school kid with a brand new drivers license I did some serious street racing in the evening on the streets of Oak Park, Forest Park, River Forest, Lombard, Berwyn, Downers Grove. All over. Damn, at the time, that car was a beast. Wish I had that car today. Those were the "good 'ole" days. Not like it is now at all. Just thought I'd share that with you guys.
I'm glad to see the door rubber and it's original cracks. Not ruined, just used. Shows the true original nature and that it's driven...not parked to rot with shine. A fine example of truly appreciating a great car to drive.
Back in 1979, I owned (so I was told), a 1968 Nova SS, by Berger Chevrolet. 396 w/ M22, 3.73 gear. I was 17/18 yrs. old Man was it a beast. If I knew then, What I know now. LOL
If only I had of known these muscle cars would have been so valuable I would have certainly held on to my 1969 SS Camaro with 396 4speed dressed in garnet red w black vinyl top and a white interior...instead of training it in on a 1973 ford ltd...lol ps...i got 1200 dollars trade in for the car BUMMER
Being a Dealership in Michigan so close to Detroit head offices. Probably helped tremendously to order a car like this. Nothing beats having one of your top of the line Camaro`s driving around town and State for all to see.
Wow that’s about as good as it gets. This car is the textbook definition of a sleeper. Any one stupid enough to try this 69 Camaro I’m sure got their feelings hurt .
My Dad in 1966 ordered a Carryall. When he did he got it with the indust 327 and more. He had a contract with the dealer. In the end the dealer tried to break it because it cost them more for it then what he had paid them. In the end it went on to have over a million miles on the motor. Yes at 500000 he replaced rings and exhaust valves but bearings cam pistons and all where put back into it. We still have it but it has been parked for 15 years. It still sits with the original engine and all in it
Kevin all I can say is WOW that car is unbelievable pretty hard to believe someone gave it a thumbs down for me though it is one of the nicest Camaros I have ever seen👍
Great car, not a huge fan of the sea of green exterior/interior but what a beast! The sound out of that exhaust is hypnotizing and can make a grown man cry !
Start of video, Kevin looks like a giant !!! Caught me off guard,so funny!!! One of my favorite muscle cars. Love the look with the hid-aways!! Awesome!! 🇺🇸🤘☮️
Yes Kevin, I can dig it! That is an incredible car,.The looks are very smooth. The somewhat plain look without a ton of flashy decals is the look that I would have chosen as well. With the vinyl roof and subtle green it is a blast from the past. When you hear that car idle however, you know it is something special. Keep up the good work!
Love my Chevys , but never was fond of the 1st Gen Camaros . But , this one out of park " HOME RUN " ! Love the big block cars . I think that first burnout was the best one I have ever seen on Muscle Car Of The Week !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Always enjoy the show , my favorite part of Friday night .
Early 69 production car, narrower rear spoiler left over from 68 production. My 69 Z was a September production and had the same narrower spoiler over the 1/4 panels.
I knew a Guy in Kalamaozo who had a Canary Yellow RS COPO Camaro from Berger .. he sold it to antoher guy who recently sold the rolling chasis to a guy in TX
Wonderful car... that L72 427 could be modified to over 600 H.P. for use in the street ..and on the strip turn times in the upper 11 secondi range....just what every 20 year young man needed......
I love the RS cameo's the 1969 and the 1970 1/2 RS with the split bumper are my favorite cameos. Love that Fathom green on dark green Copo is that a green top or is it black I can't tell but that green is awesome
Great video, and gorgeous car. Not fond of the pinstripes or the vinyl roof, but it still looks good. What I don't understand is why Chevy did body-color front bumpers and chrome rear bumpers; that still looks a bit odd to me.
That's an Endura front bumper. Most 1st gens have chrome bumpers front and back. Most pro-touring or resto mods customs get done with body color bumpers front and back.
1969 Camaro's were one of my favorite cars from that era. Loved the Z28 in that color. Love those wheels and the RS grill & headlight covers. 427 is my kind of engine as i found out with my 67 Vette. Just have a hard time accepting an auto trans as part of the package. Gimmie a 4 speed and i'll live with the vinyl top and pin stripes.
never saw a rs or ss copo before, must be a pretty rare bird.pretty funny having to brake rev a horsepower monster for a burn-out, don't think line locks were a copo option huh? lol! love those smoke shows and I don't know why. I've blown many a tire doing them, but still do.go figure. thanks again guys! ☆☆☆
You will never see a SS COPO car as the COPO superseded the Super Sport , and is why they don't have the hockey stick stripes on the front fenders and doors .
That's a special high-upshift model Turbo 400 and you could leave it in drive and it would shift nice and hard at exactly 6500 rpm, it is an awesome automatic trans.
It has a 1968 rear spoiler, they were two inches narrower than the 1969 due to the wider body of the 1969. I have heard of this happening on some dealer installed cases.
@@bobbrinkerhoff3592 I think GM probably just used what they had on hand early in the production year but more likely it was dealer installed. I personally don’t like the 68 width on the 69, to me it just looks funny.
You mentioned L89 heads. Wasn't that only a 396 option for Camaro and Chevelle? Never saw a L89 427 in a Camaro or Chevelle is why I ask. I know it was available for the Corvette 67-69.
Early in the production run(late 1968 through part of 1969) if you ordered a spoiler, leftover 68 spoilers were installed on 69 camaros. The wider 69 spoiler was designed and installed later in the production run. This is an early production 1969 Camaro that was restored properly, with the spoiler it came with.
All the Chevy exhaust systems in 1969 were pretty crappy that's why headers made such a huge difference. Even the Corvette systems were terrible in 69 as they all had 2-inch pipes! Yes 2-inch pipes on everything, even big blocks and even the L88.
These cars originally were dreamed up by a man by the name of Pete Estes and he had nickname these cars hemi hunters and the original ones came with no chrome no radio some of them didn't even have a heater in them my father was a pink supervisor for 34 years at this factory where they were made I know lots more about these cars the list is too long to talk about enjoy and have a great day
When they painted the engines after they were built the exhaust manifolds were on the engine so there you go. Guess they figured most of the paint would burn off or you couldn't hardly see it anyway.

A Camaro you can see out of, what an idea!
This channel should have at least 10-times the subscribers. I mean they feature a new mouth watering, best of the best muscle car every week.
This channel needs its own cable channel !!!!!! Love it !!!
@@Richonetwo No kkidding!! This channel is incredible!!!
As they use to say back in 69 that Camaro is outta sight!
Kevin, you never fail to deliver, always top shelf, thanks
Wow, what a great car! If it only had a 4 speed. Nice burnouts!
That automatic was just as tough.
Five speed
I'll take the auto please.
Love the green and the RS package. The two rear Goodyears were special ordered with the COPO MB option which stood for melt both.
Man that chambered exhaust makes that Camaro sound like THUNDA!
Being a Dealership in Michigan so close to Detroit head offices. Probably helped tremendously to order a car like this. Nothing beats having one of your top of the line Camaro`s driving around town and State for all to see.
1969 was a very good year....I was born then! 😉😄😂
A Dodge Charger, Mustang and a Camaro....who could possibly complain! 😎
Ur forgetting a Chevelle, Nova, Duster, Cuda, Roadrunner, Daytona, 442, Cutlass, Belvedere GTX, Vette, GT500, skylark, and Riveira 455
Agreed. This is the pinnacle of Chevy engineering, performance and sheer iconic class. Just beautiful - and yes I'm biased! great video
Gotta love that chambered exhaust system!!! Beautiful car!
The second best burnout ever on the channel 🤩
I love the fathom green. Almost like the bullet mustang. This thing is gorgeous!!!
It’s got the result chamber pipes on it. That’s really neat. I love them chamber I 69. Camaro had them on it. Z 28.
What a BEAUTY and I am not a Forrest Green/Pine Green type of guy. What a work of art
Mine would have been hugger orange, but I can live with fathom green. 😁
Kevin
Great review
I definitely learned something
thank you
Fathom green is my favorite color option
Like that color! That’s one sweet camaro!
Soooo how about that HEATER!!! SMOKED THE HIDES!. Love this channel
Love the color and it does nice burnout too...
Wow! Lower production than a ZL1! Awesome video!
Holy grail car, unbelievable.
Nice burnout!
Nice chevy,my brother in law had a 67 that ran 11’s
Wow that’s about as good as it gets. This car is the textbook definition of a sleeper. Any one stupid enough to try this 69 Camaro I’m sure got their feelings hurt .
@* Juke Joint No a sleeper was a 4 door with BBC, Camaro need not apply.

Easily one of the finest original Camaros I've ever seen and heard. Though, L89 heads and a 4 speed would make it damn near perfect.
That 425 hp rating has to be a joke. Maybe it made that at 5000 rpm. THE Actual high hp Rating is closer to 500 hps.

Amazing ride!
All credit goes to Don Yenko. And vince piggins from Chevrolet performance division .They are the fathers of the COPO. Factory pipeline
Ok. You warmed the tires, lets see what it can do without stomping on the brake. If your spinning you aint winning. LOVE this car.
Mybest favorite if all 1st genCamaro
Now that's a burn-out! And exactly how a true Camaro is supposed to sound and git! Yeefrikkinha!!! Drive it like you stole it! ▪☆☆☆▪

white paint , black-top convertible , 427 engine, 4-speed, positraction !!!
Nice, a true Chevrolet Masterpiece but I would picked a different color that's all!
WOW!!!!!
They would peel the tires off..oh yeah!!
Timeless body style, no matter what package. They say the T400 was faster in the 1/4, but 4 speed was more fun too drive..
00:01 Looks like a Giant man standing beside a tiny car
There is one identical to this one around the Middletown, Ohio area.
Its a 4spd with dog dishes on it. All original with patina & dings.

Beautiful car....too bad they wired the brake lights wrong when they restored it.
smoking down the meats with about 1/3 throttle. I have very bad hips and lower back problems , so yes , I would check the TH400 box.
There are a ton of 427 Camaros for less than 40000$, some of them are less that 25000$.
Damn at 1:19 that's fast
All awesome and awe inspiring cars!!! Is " the brothers collection " something that can b visited?.. if so.... for the love of God WHERE ???
Never cared for Camaro's, however, this one demands respect even w/ the automatic trans. shame it's not a 4-speed.

Was that surcharge of $489 for the 427 on top of the cost of the 375 hp 396, or that over the cost of the base V8?
Almost as cool of my 69 GTO ram air!
A COPO Camaro with no huge, ugly bowtie on the grille? Sign me up for that! Modern Camaros also suffer from ugly bowtie syndrome, sadly
the camaro needed the aluminum block 427,, that should have been the 70 with the same body as the 69

Definitely an early 69 production car...built in late 68 using a 68 rear spoiler...or it wouldn't have one now.

I wonder if anyone ordered one with the 427 with 335 hp option and used it to tow their boat around ?
How many 69 Zl1 got the RS grille. I knew of one green one in canada it stayed stock yet made the show circuits in the mid-80s
I noticed on this car that the rear spoiler is a narrow 67 -68 version did the dealer install it or was it a factory miscue?
