Some advice from someone who has been vegan for 7 years without having any health issues: if you're new to eating a vegan diet, I think it's really helpful to track your food for a week using an app like Cronometer. Lots of new vegans make the mistake of either eating mostly fruit and veg (which won't get you enough fat and protein unless you eat huge volumes of food), or eating a lot of processed vegan food, which can lead to unintentional overeating. Unfortunately, when people feel bad on a vegan diet, they often blame the lack of dairy/meat instead of putting in the work to track their food and figure out if they're undereating or missing essential nutrients. Another important thing to note is that not every vegan diet is a "whole foods plant based" diet, and you don't need to eat only whole plant foods to be vegan. Some processed vegan food is okay and can make it easier and more enjoyable to be vegan in the longterm.
Or you can just eat a balanced diet of whole foods, meat and vegetables and not deprive yourself of key brain nutrients in the name of an illogical ideology.
Yeah, sometimes people replace meat with veg and get no where near enough calories. It should be replaced with beans, and all else being equal people should eat a larger volume unless weight loss is a goal.
@@nomnomgamer9882 /okay before anyone says anything, I just really want to hear why you think it's an illogical ideology? I really don't want a hot heated debate, so please reply and tell me your reasoning before anyone turn this into a battle field

I noticed the veterans focused more on the types of nutrition they needed to keep in their diet vs the newbie who was just trying to make sure they were eating plant-based foods.
Yep, since like with most such diets, simply cutting out a portion denies them the nutrients they'd get from it, unlike omnivores, who if they're smart, know variety with moderation is the key.
@@VulpisFoxfire Where do you think animal meat gets it's nutrients? They eat plants and metabolize the nutrients within those grains. Or like with vitamin b12 are supplemented just like vegans. Dinner: whole wheat pasta, low salt tomato sauce, vegan meatballs, nutritional yeast.
Why are all of their meals so low calorie?? I've been vegan for 6 years too. I would've liked to see someone use normal vegan protein like tofu or veggie burgers/fake meat. There's no shame in it if it keeps you from eating animals!
With every meal they showed I was like, okay, where's the protein? (only the tofu scramb,e had a good amount of protein imo) Also Brandons mushroom bbq whatever that was, that meal lacked so much protein and he could really have made up for it in that meal if he had used tofu or tempeh or whatever. I really can't relate to how those vegans eat haha. Totally agree with what you're saying with the shame. People ask me why I want vegan burgers or whatever if I could just eat real burgers. They don't understand why we need substitutes. It's about the animals and the environment so I don't see anything wrong with wanting to recreate those non vegan things that someone used to eat but making them vegan. It doesn't make you any less of a vegan.

Having been vegetarian for several years in the past and now eating mostly pesco-vegetarian I would say the turning point from eating "whatever is made out of plants" into "oooh, this is delicious" was learning to use spice and be bold about it. Also I highly recommend steaming rather than roasting veggies to conserve the nutrients better and cooking your way around the world. Dried lentils and beans are often cheaper than canned versions and easy to make a big patch and freeze to portions to add to your cooking later for much needed protein.
I love this video! It is really fun and inspiring to see 3 different "levels" of vegans and how they approach their lifestyle. The new vegan is absolutely adorable, and she is already killing the vegan food game! And I think I am kind of in love with the intermediate vegan?
It's funny how in this video it looks like the longer you are vegan, the more "experienced" in cooking you get and you try more difficult dishes... which may be true during weekends or holidays but the truth is vegans who've been vegan for a long time and don't make their living out of cooking, their dishes get simpler as times goes by. It's great to experiment when you start out, look what fills you up, what's easy and fast to prepare on a daily basis and what meets all your caloric, macro AND micro nutrient needs. Don't be intimidated, usually the meals you prepare on a daily basis get more basic as time goes by :) Also, to the people who made the video, I love the initiative and I know that showing delicious food is important but we should also focus on health. For most people going vegan is hard because they don't end up meeting their caloric, macro and micro nutrient needs. It would've been awesome to show a breakdown of their meals as their whole day of eating because (and I might be wrong) I don't know if they are reaching their daily goals for macro and micro nutrients. However, seeing that info in the video would've been refreshing AND reasuring for people who might be interested in going vegan :)

Francesca Pessarelli the midwest is a big place, it’s just easy to point to it as the land of long empty corn fields since that’s what it looks like to the world lol. Living near indianapolis or chicago is much different than living in the middle of nowhere farmland in terms of what you can find near you. I’m pretty lucky, I live in some mid-size suburbs and we’ve seen a big uptick in alternative food options recently. A health food store even opened near me last year, and more than half the food there is vegan! It’s cool how things are developing, but during my childhood I definitely wouldn’t have been able to scratch my fake meat itch if I went vegan.
My favorite breakfast is avocado toast, smoothie, and or pancakes and you can make healthy oatmeal pancakes with a ripe 🍌, like .5 cup of oatmeal, almond milk, baking powder and vanilla then blend it up. Top with cinnamon and fruits, and its delicious, and a different way to eat oatmeal.
Same here, which is why I don't make food like that lol. I try to keep all my meals high protein and high fat with lot of veggies. Otherwise I just overeat.

The Daily Dozen app is SUPER helpful if you want to go the unprocessed route!!

Yep, since like with most such diets, simply cutting out a portion denies them the nutrients they'd get from it, unlike omnivores, who if they're smart, know variety with moderation is the key.

This actually makes me want to go back to vegan. The 6 year Vegan girl is showing protein filled dishes and that was why I had to quit being vegan, because I wasnt able to balance the protein and carbs. So looks like I'm going back. 🤗💕
Good luck 😊 I am worried about that too which is why I find it hard to transition from vegetarian to vegan 😕
that's great, and I find it great that you could see that the other two vegans (1week and 3 years) didn't include that much proteins in their meals.. it's always good to include legumes (beans, lentils, chick peas...) at lunch and dinner, or some tofu or tempeh, which are also very rich in proteins.
That's amazing! How are you doing with it this time around? 💕
@Kyra Vankriekinge I agree but I personally would be hungry within 1 hour with this amount, maybe it's just me.
YES GIRL YOU GOT THIS, LIVE THAT VEGAN LIFE
As a mediterranean the only shocking thing is the lack of oil... they seem scared of it lmao
Shinny Pinneaple it’s pretty typical of vegan diets it seems. I watch a lot of vegan people on TH-cam, and there are lots of “anti-oil” people, though not all of them are. My family is Greek so I find it strange to be anti-oil when EVOO is insanely healthy. But to each their own I guess
Shinny Pinneaple because there are no health benefits from any defined vegetable oils. It is just the fat and it spikes cholesterol
A lot of people are drawn to veganisim for health reasons and therefore avoid oil- not all vegans are like that though :)
@@Becky0494 I am vegan and eat a lot of olive oil with bread, tomatoes etc.
As a vegan myself I’m always shocked by the anti-oil sentiment. I use EVOO in most everything, couldn’t imagine cooking without it.
Here's what I eat in a day, as a vegan of 1.5 years who doesn't like to cook.
Breakfast: oatmeal, made with unsweetened almond milk and topped with fresh fruit and a tablespoon or two of natural pb. Always have coffee with it, usually black with a splash of almond milk or a latte with almond milk, no sugar.
Lunch: salad with beans, vegan dressing of choice, several servings of dairy free croutons.
Snack: cookies, fruit, or crackers and bean dip.
It doesn't make you any less of a vegan.
yeah, not going to lie i eat way more than these guys seem to, but i guess everyone is different?
Charlie Parker I eat a lot more too. And I’m not ashamed. Their diets seem really unattainable and unsatisfying. Really not happy with the way veganism is portrayed in the video cuz no one is going to be happy with such small portions.
What are you talking about?? Low calorie the amount of oil that was used in some of the meals add hundreds of calories. I agree it’s not a lot of protein however I don’t think all of them are low calorie.
May May yeah but for instance the one week vegan keeps saying that instead of oil you could use water or broth. That’s not very promising. And if Brandon hadn’t added chia seeds to his morning smoothie.... he makes his smoothie with water ffs
native english speakers pissed in the comments because they think the way they pronounce quinoa is the only correct way lol quinoa is pronounced kin-oah in a lot of languages (like portuguese! im from brazil and we pronounce like that too ♥️)
edit: guys i dont think there is a right way to pronounce it. there is a thing called regionalism, and it is about the changing of words pronunciation across regions, cultures and accents. it shows our diversity and its beautiful! we have to respect that. no need of arguing.
Also Spanish!!!
Even German 😬
lol..it should sound Quínoa..like in Spanish because Quinoa comes from the Peruvian Andean mountains..
a lot of languages pronounce it wrong you're right.
@@brians_beanwater8048 lol i hope you are kidding, quinoa is not a english word
They really did Brandon dirty by not correcting him on the quinoa thing 😂😂
😂 i love how he pronounced it im like hmmm must be a new kind of grain then
I look to the top left and see the word quinoa 😂
dish looks fire though 😁
um ...to be fair quinoa is native to my home and that's how it is pronounced. It's a Spanish word so actually he is pronouncing it correctly. You all are pronouncing it incorrectly
@@minad658 Tiene razon.
@@minad658 there's a genuinely good example of the same sorta thing.. ever heard of the German toy company Schleich? Well, Literally Every English speaker (British, Canadian, American, whatever ) mispronounces it.. you see, with this word it's based on how it looks _in our language_ Schleich is Actually pronounced "Shli-sch" Not the way every American or Australian(or similar English speaker does)we pronounce it: "SchLikch" (just watch 89angelfox or Chewwy, that's the pronunciation i'm talkin about ) Same thing with Quinoa.. it's language based, so Yeah they're both simultaneously right/wrong but it depends on the native language of the person saying the word.... TL;DR Neither will ever sound right in English either way

It’s been 6 days, Brandon should be included in the thumbnail. Vegan Black Men matter and representation matters!
I agree with you 1000% on the vegan black men matter but I think they didn’t include him as he was in the middle , like the do with the £1 to £1000 type of videos if you get me , like they don’t ever put the middle ones in the thumbnail as they want to show almost how extreme the gap is and adding the middle makes it less interesting if you get me
I agree.
sharon anderson with me or tiffany
Not every thing is about race. Just stop. They had both extremes represented in the thumbnail
@@2bit156 No not everything is about race however it would’ve had a positive impact to include a black man in the thumbnail.

Just don't eat like him please.
Things healthy people say
: “ massage the kale 🥬 “
It's funny how in this video it looks like the longer you are vegan, the more "experienced" in cooking you get and you try more difficult dishes... which may be true during weekends or holidays but the truth is vegans who've been vegan for a long time and don't make their living out of cooking, their dishes get simpler as times goes by. It's great to experiment when you start out, look what fills you up, what's easy and fast to prepare on a daily basis and what meets all your caloric, macro AND micro nutrient needs. Don't be intimidated, usually the meals you prepare on a daily basis get more basic as time goes by :)
Also, to the people who made the video, I love the initiative and I know that showing delicious food is important but we should also focus on health.
That doesn't make sense. No one in this video is vegan.
@@janieswanson2549 ?? What do you mean by that? Please explain further, because they are cooking vegan meals, they say they are vegan and even the title of the video implies they are vegan...

This is what I eat in a day as a vegan:
Breakfast: Toast.
Lunch: Carrots, Tomatos and cucumbers
Dinner: Tofu, quinoa, veggies.

@DaQuan Not really. Get some oil, put the tofu on the pan with the oil, fry it, eat it.

To the people commenting on his pronunciation of the word quinoa : this is how the indigenous people of Peru pronounce it, three syllables
Is he Peruvian?? If so that’s really cool!! So am I haha
nancyjunkie EXACTLY
Good to know!
I'm from Perú, we actually pronounce it KI-NUAH :)
im Bolivian (next to Peru) and we pronounce it like kin-wah
Just in case you need more lazy and cheap meal ideas:
Breakfast: green smoothie (just banana, spinach, peanut butter, and soymilk)
Lunch: stir-fried vegetables + chickpeas + rice
Dinner: a sandwich filled with whatever you have on the fridge
Snacks: carrots + hummus, any fruit or popcorn
@keto cycler I said it was lazy and cheap, not healthy lol.
@keto cycler soy milk is actually very good for u and loaded with protein..In Asia we have been drinking it for centuries and the women and men are slim but that’s because naturally we’re lactose intolerant. Soy milk is the best plant milk for nutrition and has all 9 amino acids. The only problematic thing in their breakfast option is peanut butter because over consumption of peanut butter leads to weight gain but it depends on your diet preferences. Its really rude for you to say that when their intention wasn’t to be healthy it was to be convenient and cheap
The way Brandon said quinoa ❤️
A vegan would know how to say that, right?! lol That was funny though!
Definitely gonna say kin-no-wa from now on

"you can find it even at trader joe's" *stares in poor midwesterner*
Gods same. When you’re a small town midwesterner and vegan influencers suggest meat and dairy alternatives that they can go pick up at a store in 5 minutes like it’s obvious that we should do it too. The “vegan alternatives” section at the 3 nearest grocery stores to me are 1 foot wide and half of them are avocado spreads and spring wraps -_-. Nutritional yeast? Never heard of her.
That's why I just eat a truly astonishing amount of chickpeas. Who needs a specific meat substitute when you have beans?
@@merrybright5732 I grew up in the midwest but had no problems finding vegan alternatives all over the place. I would buy tempeh, nutritional yeast, vegan cheese, yogurt, meat, ice cream, etc at Woodman's (wisconsin based) for super reasonable prices.
Francesca Pessarelli I mean the midwest has more sort of cities than people give it credit for. I don’t know how big your town was but I already described my circumstance. My dad lives in a completely rural area and they don’t even have a vegetarian section at the only grocery store within 30 minutes of the town center. Things have been getting better for sure, but there’s definitely people with no easy access to these things
Such a good concept. Everyone has a different process and still is figuring or having figured it out :)
