I got one for my 1×8... long story short I got 3 of them now there's no comparison in the market for the Scalarworks mounts is that simple you really get what you pay for!
I was stuck between this mount and the Spuhr cantilever since it came in FDE for around the same price. Went with this one, the machining and craftsmanship is unreal.
Excellent review! I found you on reddit and I've been watching your content since then. As a gun nut living in a country where gun ownership is illegal, your reviews help me fill a gap in my hobby. Thanks for what you do!
I have a few adm mounts. And I finally snagged my 1.93” scalarworks mount and I am truly in love with it. Absolutely the finest example of what the very best quality can get you!
Purchased the improved Leap/08. Mounting it to K16i when it arrives. Thank you for your incredibly detailed and hyper professional videos. I really appreciate you and your videos. Thank you.
You know something? You are one of the only people I've noticed who gets sent products for review who doesn't actually do anything "shilly." You actually point out, demonstrate and show noticeable downsides that can't be ignored. Also, this thing has toolless attachment without sacrificing your zero with a compromised mount plus an autolevelling mechanic? Fuck yeah!
@@1olddirtroad it’s been awhile since this was posted. Since then I’ve discovered the Badger Ordnance 1.70 scope mount. This is the perfect height for me. It still allows a more heads up position while also being very comfortable when prone.
I wonder if scalarworks intentionally left off the screw slot so you couldn’t over tighten the mount. I would prefer to have torque specs and a slot but that’s just me.
From my understanding all the torque you need is in the finger strength. It's supposed to be able to mount and take off without tools and still be solid.
I have one of their aimpoint micro reddot mounts and if you get it tight enough not to wiggle on the 1913 rail its too tight to get off with your fingers.
They say that if you go as tight as your hand can get it that is 100% enough. No tools are needed and they likely want to keep people from using them. I Currently own 2 of their lower1/3 mounts for my aimpoints 3 of their 1.93” mounts for my aimpoints And 2 of their leap 1.93 30mm scope mounts. And they are all amazing. I did get one of my scope mounts replaced due to the cracking issue up on the top of the ring hinge. But they quickly replaced the mount without issue
I can tell you the aero mounts are light but not strong. They literally roll the scope over out of level as you torque the screws down and lastly the steel screws threaded into aluminum is foolish and will fail! Honestly you can get better mounts that are bomb proof for a little more. I’d suggest you go that route. Or just buy the scalarworks mount! I have them and they are fantastic literally the best out there bar none!
To be honest after i saw this 4 days back i ran out and bought one. Let me say they're hard to find in stock but I happen to check Primary Arms and they had one for my scope ring size (34mm) for my Razor Gen III 1x10. The leveling the scope out option in this is almost worth the price of it alone! The amount of time this saves cause I'm super anal about it being completely in the center (The bubbles when leveling). $438 dollars was well worth it. EXPENSIVE but absolutely worth it! To be honest I got a Condition One Max mount for it and used that mount for my 308 with this scope and the amount of time it takes to level it out and just screw things together is ridiculous. don't get me wrong I love Badger Ordnance mounts but Scalarworks takes the cake period!
Awesome mount!! I want one, but I see 4 minor issues : 1st is Cost $$$$$ 2nd is no slot for a way to get a repeatable torque setting. 3rd I’d like to see one or two extra pic slots to help lock up any possible forward and back movement. Finally 4th Again COST!! $400 is a lot for a scope mount!!!
It's wasn't engineered to have wrench flats. It was designed to be hand torqued down as hard as you can with your hands so it always returns to zero. The owner explains the design at shot show. People also tend to overtorque things, so they designed it to erase that from happening on the mount. & on the rings it's marked in bold 20in lbs so you can't mess it up but I am sure people still overtorque the rings and break their scopes.
Dang, those features are awesome but it’d be weird to have a scope mounted on it that has roughly the same price as the mount. Probably need a 2k scope just so it doesn’t look out of place lol
Nice review. I have a hard time trusting Scalarworks after a bad experience with one of their Leap PRO mounts. The top of the ring, where the clasp is joined ended up splitting while it was sitting in the safe last winter. They sent me a new one (after making me pay for shipping), but I now wonder how durable it is. The engineering is cool, but for me it’s too expensive to not be able to trust.
Do you have a high quality driver that using a proper torque driver you would never have an issue. Check out the fix-it sticks set. It really helps to do things precisely and properly
The Aero Precision Ultralight is only 3.37oz. At like $80 is there any reason to choose this mount over Aero? QD is nice but not for 5x the price. Scalarworks is obviously badass, but if I can get a lighter, cheaper mount from a reputable company - that makes sense to me
Your honestly correct. There comes a point where cost/performance plateaus and you have to question if the extra bells and whistles are worth it for you. For a simple barebones mount that's ultra lightweight. The Aero mount is unbeatable. When I get my hands on one for review. That'll be my exact argument
I own both the aero and the scalar works. I originally was in love with the aeros, but after having 3 of them and noticing some flaws in them and stripping the screws out of one, I could tell the higher end mounts definitely were stronger. If you have a nice rifle which isnt used and abused, the AERO is perfect. If it gets banged in and out of the safe and thrown in the back seat and on a rifle thats used for anything other than range days a few times a year id probably go with something more stout. My AERO mounts are strictly for my 22LRs now. Hope that helps.
Another thing worth noting is that when tightening the rings on the Aero mount it rotates the scope. So to combat this you have to mount the scope crooked, suck the screws tight, and hope that it times out as level.
@@CDOES The height is literally the only thing preventing me from buying. It has everything I want plus more. But the height killed it for me. Hopefully they'll make one.
Except the henges break and it’s not worth the hassle of returning for another one, and then having to re-zero your scope. If I pay $400 for a mount to put my ATACR on, t damn well better work forever. I didn’t even use it heavy on my URGI
I buy a lot of very expensive gear. But...lol...I'd have to be convinced that I somehow NEED a $400 mount; that a $150 mount just CAN'T do what I need it to do...
I get sick of these posers, claiming to give valid opinions and reviews on products that they don’t actually use enough to legitimately have an opinion. Its a decent mount. For non qd i prefer geissele, for qd, larue is the only option imo
@@jamesstephenson2346Larue is mediocre. It costs the same as this and has ZERO innovative features. This is much better.
As a non gun guy, watching these well made products makes me want to just buy it because its shows so much care and attention to details.
Absolutely! They did no play around with this mount.
That’s honestly cool that you’d buy something just for the sheer engineering masterpiece it is.

Why is this one worth more than double?
How does it hold zero

I wish they made a 1.7" mount. 1.5 is a tad to low and 1.9 is a tad to high.
