Chorus and bridge : Steven Wilson would be proud Rest of the song: Meshuggah would be proud I'm so proud to be a fan of this band, I love this music beyond comprehension
Is the song and the video about how technology has failed to fulfill its promise of bringing people closer together, and instead has made us less empathetic to each other? It would fit with the theme of Applause of a Distant Crowd.
I'm just now discovering Vola. I don't know how that is even possible. I've heard 3 songs and I'm mind blown. This is my new favorite band no question.
Bro right? I was instantly hooked. Half the time I hear a new band I like it's "I'll check em out more later." VOLA? Nahh I heard I think Smartfriend and then spent the next however long just binging all their shit. Shot straight into my top 3 immediately
We are exhilarated to present to you our brand new single ‘HEAD MOUNTED SIDEWAYS’. Produced by Asger Mygind and mixed & mastered by Jacob Hansen (Katatonia, Evergrey, Dizzy Mizz Lizzy among others), the song moves into new sonic territory with what is probably our most expansive production to date. To explore the song visually we reached out to the young, upcoming Finnish director duo Riivata Visuals, who built a world from scratch around the track and added their own dark and energetic twist. Stream & download the track 'Head Mounted Sideways' here: smarturl.it/Vola-MLG
Jacob Hansen is one of the best mixers ever for metal! He did a great job once again. I met him at ProgPower USA when his band Pyramaze played! He was so nice
That's it. We've always known, but now it's factual: VOLA are part of the big prog scene of our time, alongside Leprous, Haken and Caligula's Horse. This album is going to be HUGE.
Wow, you just listed by 3 favorite bands! Assuming we are probably similar in musical taste (I, too, really enjoy VOLA), I will add a few others I am hopeful will join that list as big names: Earthside, Ihlo, Soen, Rendezvous Point. (I'd also argue that probably TesseracT should be on this list!)
I feel that Vola needs waaaay more recognition.. their music in general is phenomenal and this album is absolutely pure gold that has to be heard till the furthest future
VOLA literally is the biggest underdog I know. has less than 10k subs, produces quality music like they have 10 million. Ive been loving your music for years, and I can't wait to see you guys blow up!
Probably the best produced prog song of the decade. Drummer is made of the darkest matter. F… he’s good. Bass sound ridiculous. Keys are eternal. And Mr. Mygind… phenomenal. Make more… lots more. 🙏
I had the life-time privilege to watch them live in São Paulo, Brazil. It was such a great and unique concert. Their sound quality in live performance is amazing!
There is some quality of a rare, few artists that know just how to get a frequency dialed in. It presents itself as audio but, in actuality, uses that medium as a trojan horse to get to something deeper, maybe even profound. Bjork was a master of this. I can't think of any other examples at the moment, probably because the hair on the back of my neck is still standing up. I truly appreciate the care that was taken in bringing these sounds together for us.
I knew it was going to be amazing, but how the hell? I mean, really? This song takes you on an emotional journey unlike any song ever written before it. It pushes you to the edge with those nasty opening riffs, then it holds you with the melodic chorus. This song is pure genius. You can hear the chemistry in the band.
Guys. After many many years of listening to prog, I have no idea idea how the hell I haven't known about you. I am ashamed of myself. This is pure awesomeness.
That. Bass. Tone. Seriously, this is great, like "Smartfriend" but more expansive and exciting, really, really excited for the record! Expecting to hear some some novelties too.
Honestly I'd love that tour. Gojira is my favorite group, no disrespect to VOLA(top 5, no question), but I feel like the high level musicianship, shared prog nature, but notable contrast in style would make for an amazing complete show.
Never thought you'd be able to mix pop with something as heavy as vildhjarta. But here it is, a truly volatile combination, beautifully contained within the palms of artisanal hands.
If you liked this, I have a strong suspicion you'll love Loathe. I jokingly call them Defthjarta haha. Their latest record 'I Let It In And It Took Everything' is extremely high on my best of list for this year. Highly recommended if you haven't heard of them!
I've been last year at a small metal festival here in Romania (ticket was like 20 euros), where Leprous + Tesseract + Vola played. The guy who invited all 3 of them at the same place is a genius
This whole album is a masterpiece. It’s been a long time since I was this happy about stumbling upon something. My best friend and I have been nerding out about every song since release. Thank you for the fantastic music!
This song has so much going for it. There's five different kinds of vocals(robot, strong chorus, soft bridge, scream, outro speaking voice), the electronic effects are off the wall(reminds me of Rammstein) and match perfectly with the other instruments even though they refuse to play anything simple. Also the chorus is one of the best I've ever heard. VOLA is going far.
I love this review. I was wondering why I found this song so captivating and you gave way to several reasons beyond what many may even realize is right in front of their eyes and ears. Mine included. I too absolutely love the chorus of this song!!!! Rammstein is also my favorite band so I appreciated that reference lol. Much love and respect friend.
que banda incrível, essa atmosfera industrial com esse vocal é algo divinamente lindo!!! ainda sonho em ver vocês no Brasil, assim como tivemos soen, leprous, haken e caligulas horse... venham o quanto antes!
The message, the lyrics, the journey, the synths, the vocoder, this f**king EPIC chorus... You guys are awesome, so many thank you for being part of humanity and for what you bring to our ears and hearts :-)
This song alone outshines everything they have done. Yes, their earlier materials were ethereal indeed, but this one blows aways everything in existence.
Oh how I love this unique sound and songwriting of 'Vola'...another brilliant song from them,groovy,ethereal,nostalgic,heavy..close your eyes and float.
This better come with a frickin album, i only discovered this band a few months back and it was like i was looking for this band to fill a void in myself music wise and then i found it. Played these guys too death. So happy for new songs! Thankyou VOLA i’m sure i won’t be let down.
VOLA, your album Applause of a Distant Crowd is currently, without exaggeration, my favourite album of all time. I could gush about it all day, but one of the things I love about it is it's variety, having heavy songs, mellow songs, songs that mix heaviness with mellowness, yet all giving a powerful feeling of absolute bliss and euphoria. Although I still really like Inmazes, it's not quite the absolute masterpiece that is Applause in my opinion. So I admit, I was a little bit worried when I saw the new single that you might have listened to the people who wanted you to go back to the heavy style of Inmazes and lose the magic of Applause. Listening to it now, and I am not disappointed in the slightest. It's quite a bit heavier than anything on Applause, but you haven't lost the dynamic songwriting that made that album great, and have recaptured the magic of that album, while still evolving and refining your sound further rather than trying to make the same album twice, and for that I applaud you (no pun intended) and could not be more hyped for your next album. Much love from Australia, and thank you for everything ❤️
Well I've found my new favourite VOLA song. This is absoultely next level. Perfect song structure. The melody is iconic of VOLAs identity and the band have really built on the heaviness of inmazes and the song writing skills of their latest record. If their new album is anything like this there will be absolutely no doubt that they will be at the forefront of the worlds modern prog scene. Incredible song. Well done lads!
Nothing like accidentally clicking on a video and not expecting such raw heaviness. The guitar and bass tone is superb. The vocals are amazing as well. Just made a new fan!
