Being a VOLA fan is the eternal struggle of not being able to decide which is catchier, the verse or the chorus. I made the “mistake” of listening to this at 4 am and it’s been the only thing playing in my head today 🙃 Good luck getting rid of this earworm everybody, I’ve been very unsuccessful on that matter.

I commented on These Black Claws as well. This band can transform your life if you really pay attention. I don't mean 2 minutes of your life. Months. This is some amazing quality that we haven't heard since the Dream Theatre days. The lyrics. The melodies. I want more of it every single day, I pray they give it to us. This is where I strive to be as a musician. They pulled me out of a hell they don't even know about and I'll be forever indebted.

Bro, I'm SOOO with you on this opinion. The last months have been quite the torture for myself, due to depression, creativity-block and a deep motivational black hole in my mind. That was basically the point, when I found "Napalm" by Vola in my recommendations. And boy, I tell you, that was a total game-changer for me. Since then, I have the constant urge to analyze and understand their sonical capacity. Vola is basically a merge between different favorite genres of mine and, yeah that sounds kinda dumb, their music simply makes me happy at the moment. And I'm thankful for that too!

    1. How do people not talk about this band more in the prog scene? They are still EXTREMELY underappreciated and not talked about among the current up and coming prog bands NEARLY enough.
    2. I am SO happy they are back to a heavier sound. I think this is the perfect balance between Inmazes (bordered on too heavy with not enough 'space' in the sound) and AoaDC (not enough heavy for me, personally - sounded like a different band almost!).

New fan here! I can't remember when I last listened to music of an artist on repeat this often. I especially like the incredibly effective key change here in this chorus.
I can remember listening to a song in my car last year on some random metal playlist on Spotify. I couldn't check the artist while driving and didn't have luck retrieving the playlist I listened to afterwards. I only thing I remember is that the song really caught my attention and pulled me in emotionally. It now turns out that song I listened to back then was "Starburn". Luckily algorithms pushed this song into my TH-cam playlist and I now had the change to (re-)discover you guys. :-)

This whole song is truly sad. Its literally about a child losing his innocence (straight lines) and no longer sees the world as he used to (symbolised by the cube he looks through). Instead he is slowly starts being consumed by darkness. Then at the end, the kid joins the darkness and is no longer tormented by it.

    • @AtlasCrafted
      @AtlasCrafted 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I see it differently.
The cube is his innocence. He sees everything as better though it. He protects it against the constant evil around him.

This is the first time I’ve really heard this song. And holy shit, it’s not going to be the last.
Literally everything about this is absolutely amazing, down to the vocals, drumming, the guitar playing, and the overall synth work and melody. I’m most definitely a fan now and will for sure be checking out the rest of your guys work, amazing job!

Also, there are screamed vocals in the back during the chorus that are absolutely amazing and make it even more intense. Really good song, I'm definitely listening to more from you guys soon ;)

VOLA are carrying on the prog torch beautifully, I'd say. Gojira is probably always going to be my favorite band, but VOLA has worked their way into my top 3 with ease. Mind you, Pink Floyd joins those two to round off my top 3, so I truly count VOLA as masters of their craft. Plus their music just scratches an itch I never knew I had.

One of the best things about this band is promotion of nuance and lack of self indulgence. They pack wonderful things in 5 minute songs. There is no need for a 15 minute exploration and needless fiddling and improvisation. That’s fine and dandy for some, but it doesn’t often age well. Hats off guys, great job capturing a cohesive musical experience that is fun and insightful!!

You guys have absolutely nailed the production on this one and I love it. I loved the last record, but the only thing that sometimes left me wanting was the emphasis in some of the shifts in dynamics between the verses and choruses. It felt like the very start to the choruses were robbed of their impact because of mix, with absolutely no reflection on the writing. Hence live they sound banging but on record I always felt it was missing a touch of umph. Glad to say that every song on the new record you've pre released sounds fucking stellar and when the choruses and heavier bridges come in they crack me in the chest the way they deserve to. On a completely subjective note, I'm loving the inclusion of more heaviness on this record, giving me an awesome evolution of what you built on Inmazes. All in all, I'm rambling but this is awesome and I can't wait for the record. Keep being different and releasing awesome music.

I would love too see some more of the modern melodic prog metal/metalcore like this, volumes, loathe, etc. Not every song has the melodies that I’m talking about but stuff like Happier and Feels Good by Volumes, Loathe by Loathe, and Stray the Skies and Straight Lines by Vola. Those songs all have that vibe of low tuned guitars with beautiful melodies.
Edit: The first song I know of that had that vibe was Neo Seoul by After the Burial and I have to give an honorable mention to Ichika Nito’s djent lofi and 9 string stuff since that also has that same vibe

God I’ve seen this bands name for the past few years in the prog circle but always just ignored it for some reason, just checking them out this week. My god I feel like a fool for my previous ignorance. But, the past 6 months have been the lowest point of my life, and it was NOW that I needed to discover this, not two years ago. Amazing what can pull us out of the mire and the timing in which we stumble upon said things.
