📓 24 Light-Years Lyrics
All that I need is to find you.
Grey swarms of ash blocking my view.
Sounds from your last celebration.
Sparkling and naive conversation.
I could leave this house, but I won’t.
There’s an echo that seems to live on.
24 footprints obtained.
24 light-years remain.
All of my sleep is behind you.
Paint me a dream I can pass through.
Move this table.
Change this label.
Is there something new?
Bleach this surface.
Pale and nervous.
Are you lonely too?

Vola isn't just about music. It's also an encounter with huge emotions from space. It is a great encounter with souls, heart, joy and sorrow. I love Vola. Once upon a time, no band made such a huge deal on me. I'm 56 years old. Absolutely great band.
I am completely inspired to learn to record my own music.
You prolly dont give a damn but does anyone know of a way to get back into an instagram account??
I stupidly forgot my password. I love any tips you can offer me!
@Eden Arlo instablaster =)
@Karter Ares I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
This has to be one of the most underrated bands I’ve ever heard of. If I ever get to see them live I’d probably shed a tear of joy lol.
Do it. I've seen them live twice so far and they are just as good live as they are in studio. You won't be disappointed!
I've seen them four times. A loud joy each time 👌
I just stumbled across them a month ago and have been listening to them more or less nonstop ever since. This band is revelatory.
@@HamsterWheelGaming Dude, you're my idol right now 😅 how Lucky, for real!
the rhythmic section really shines live, giving new life to the songs. On the albums, especially on applause, the melodic side is prevalent, but live it’s a different balance. They’re just an awesome, awesome band.
Adam is such a criminally underrated drummer, He always smashes the ball out the park with the most interesting and musicals grooves that no one else could write
Agreed. His vids are awesome
Can't wait for drum playtrough 🖖🏻😁
Agree and disagree. He is certainly criminally underrated and his playing is phenomenal. I wouldn't say he's the only drummer in the scene that could write something like this though. Some very very good drummers in the metal/prog scene.
Cannot WAIT for the drum play through. Hope it comes soon! It is insanely unique for sure, the layout of his kit alone allows for some variations in writing, and it shows well in this song.
@@NZSnipesGaming i think this Is really really close To the prog the more we could think.
I can barely deal with how pretty this song is...and that drum groove is incredibly unique. I am a sucker for deep space/deep ocean sounds, and that's exactly how this song sounds. So sooo beautiful. I have great faith in this band. I am so lucky to be listening to this..
I love your description. Yeah I get that too.
I love this comment. And I get it. This band is magic. The music is magic. And because you love this... you should dive deep into sleep token. Same vein. Checks all the boxes
Any recommendations for Space/Deep Ocean pilgrimage songs?
@@syrityflo5130 mostly soundtracks, Interstellar soundtrack of course, Dune soundtrack.
I feel the same way, Maria :) I love the way you wrote that.
“If I zoom in,” guitarist-singer Asger Mygind says. “The failure is born from unrequited love, grief, manipulative behavior and insecurity. Connecting it with the album title, one could view the characters portrayed in the lyrics as being witnesses to the dissolution of the bond they have created with people in their lives.”
What remarkable thought and aim, reflecting a situation relatable to many.. Thank you for such a beautiful song 🕯🖤
This band has been the best gift. People are still discovering them. I just pray these guys keep making music for all of us.
god this is so magical
This is pure gold! If this band doesn't break big now something's seriously wrong in this world. 💙
It's not going to happen. We should feel honoured to have discovered this kind of beautiful music but sadly it's not for the masses. It's not bubblegum radio friendly garbage after all.
@@lavillastrangiato1457 Yeah man!! Sad but realistic. Imagine a world where good music gets the credit it deserves lol.
They need to stay away from the major labels. They will try and make them change. Be nice of they get big enough to tour the world though... really need them here in America..
ask maluma, j balvin, bad bunny, and all that trash whats goin' on... omfg!
@@lavillastrangiato1457 Greatness is fed upon by all. I doubt most people are aware they exist.
I saw these guys in November in Boston with my son. They were amazing musically, but we're so nice and humble to us when we met them. My son is a huge fan and invited his old Mama to share his live Vola experience. I am grateful for the opportunity to get to know this band, their music and their kindness to their fans! Thank you VOLA for the experience of a lifetime!
I love this!
Vola, Leprous, and BTBAM should tour!
Would be a cool tour:)
I would shit myself. Can we also get Skyharbor on that ticket?
That would be an incredible lineup, holy shit
Wow awesome guys! You have that somber sound that reminds me of katatonia. Excellent song!
@@Zvasra and some TesseracT
there's not a single "just average" song on this album so far
this is definitely a 10/10 prog metal album and will stay that way for many many generations to come
Adam's drums on this are extra terrestrial
Honestly i dont know what the lyrics exactly mean, but this song makes me shed a tear everytime. Its simply beautiful.
The vocals kicking back in with the harmonies at 4:00 is just giving me goosebumps all over holy shit
Oh look, another 100%banger from Vola, color me surprised.
💙
How does this band keep getting better, how is that even possible....
true man simply cannot hold his tears when the chorus hits
If we can get a triple header tour with Vola, Sleep Token, and Spiritbox, my life would be complete.
Very good idea 😍
💯💯💯
No, you cut out that Sleep Token crap. Are you trying to ruin Vola concerts? Sleep Token is super boring.
There are countless bands that make a much better fit such as- Karmanjakah, The Contortionist, Last Chance to Reason, Katatonia, and many others.
Sleep Token is the worst thing to happen to metal since Baby Metal.
The best band in the djent space. These guys are actually original as fuck, and super refreshing!
Came from an ad in a Haken video. I don't use to click at song ads, but starting seconds were awesome and the whole song even greater. I'll definitely get into your music right now! New fan here.
My favourite single so far. Balanced and powerful at the same time. Witness is coming.
Man, if those lyrics don't hit you in the feels with the state of the world right now, you didn't spend the past year in quarantine with the rest of us...
VOLA are the sci-fi progmetal Gods. Period.
fantastic, restored my faith in music
Thank you Vola. God bless you
Found myself tearing up listening to this while driving to work... just perfect
Everytime Vola release a new song:
Day 1: "OK... I'll need another listens to really get what is really going on..."
Day 2: know every lyric, every riff, every part, and listen to it over and over and over again :-)
Can't wait for witness !! 🔥🔥🔥
This is the song that tipped me to buying the vinyl. Can’t wait to listen to this song with the lights off, a glass of whiskey, and the record glowing...
Me neither:) Nicolai, VOLA.
@@volaband cheers to that!
The first two singles are good but man there is something truly special about this one
I say again, WHO IS DOWNVOTING THIS? This band creates life-affirming music.
Trolls most likely. Always gotta be some asshole out there.
There's also the aspect of training the TH-cam algorithm. If you don't like the song, but still appreciate the creativity or art, you're still conditioned to thumbs down to prevent it from showing up in your recommendations.
Beautiful song!
- Daddy, what is the astronaut doing?
- He is picking up the space flower he has been searching for so long.
- But he is not happy!
- ...
This album is gonna be the GOAT
It is. :)
This song has really grown on me. At first I thought it was too simplistic and cheesy. But it says a lot when you catch yourself humming the melody of a song you "don't like" with a satisfied grin on your face. I only just now feel the deeper meaning behind this track. You did it again, Vola :)
This band just gets better with age. Cant wait for this album!!!
every single song so far is better than anything you've ever done and i already think every album you've done is amazing
it's legitimately unfair on other bands how good you guys are
I'm not crying you're crying....please come to ATL guys
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful!
The drums in this song are incredible. The song is pretty stunning as well which can be expected from the best prog band in the game!
Mastery is what this is called. Vola hasn't disappointed after all these years, unlike many bands have done.
I've been enchanted with the work of Anne Nørkjær Bang & Nicolai Mogensen since the beginning with you guys.
Best album of the decade already, and it's only 2021. And the album isn't even out yet. Damn.
You guys deserve everything good that comes your way. Keep up the great work \m/
I guess this is VOLA's Born in Winter.
EXACTLY my take.
Dude unreal how similar those two songs are
Nonsense. 24 Light Years has nothing in common with Born in Winter. It just has a similar music video.
@@patrickbalkany7989 they are nothing alike. Only the videos are similar.
@@patrickbalkany7989 i dont see similarity in sound
I'm all about this song, but I literally groove every time at 2:40. It's such a banger.
Thank God this showed up us an ad, with ads like this I would be extremely happy. I loved this!
This new album is gonna make VOLA blow up. They'll be one of the biggest names in prog/djent very soon
Just while listening to this for the first time I had the feeling that something special comes around with Witness and something really serious awaits to this guys after the realease. Their talent deserves to reach a larger audience. Thanks Vola!
Every hair standing on end. Feels like ecstasy is flowing through my veins. Wow. Electric. 🖤. Takes you away from this world for a small while ♥️
Just saw them in LA on Friday. Some the cleanest live production I've ever heard. Show was a banger and probably one of the livelier crowds ive seen at a CA show in some time.
i discovered vola through spotify only this year and i know all of their songs now as they are one of my fav bands.
This song inspired an alternate story for me.
0:00 - A man sits beside a hospital bed, hunched over, body silently shaking. Daylight pours in through a gap in darkened curtains. He's holding someone's hand, but it's clear to him and to us that their grip is no more.
0:21 - A humanoid machine sits at an old, decaying desk, multiple limbs working tirelessly on a blueprint of a small space shuttle. Its eyes are unwavering, frantically scouring the paper to make sure all the calculations are correct. We see traces of books about the stars.
0:44 - A man and woman stand atop a roof of a highrise somewhere in the city. The woman is looking through a telescope, surveying the stars; the constellations. She's looking for a particular constellation; we don't get to see which one it is, but when she finds it, she smiles and looks back to the man. The man, knowing nothing about the stars, but happy that the woman is enjoying herself, smiles.
1:07 - The machine is on a platform inside a dilapidated building. The sky is black; the eternal clouds obscure the cosmos. The machine working on the shuttle. We get scarce glimpses of the outside, hints of what the world has become.
1:22 - The woman returns to the telescope. The camera pans upward to the sky. We get a glimpse of the stars, streaks of light flying through the air. When it pans upward even further, it intersperses the scene of a rusted picture frame on a desk. Inside is an old photo of the man and woman. The machine's reflection comes into frame, fitting almost perfectly over the visage of the man.
1:35 - The machine is outside now, steadily dragging massive cables across the cracked earth. The camera cuts outward to show us that nothing else remains around it, just itself and its project. We get a reason to its goal: a blinking indicator on its arm. It's power is waning. Time is running out.
1:56 - More work on the shuttle. Welding, hammering, drilling. The machine grips each tool as tightly as the man grips the chair in the doctor's office after hearing the unfortunate news. The woman beside him is in shock. The tears well up, but never fall. We catch a fleeting moment of the man falling asleep in one moment, and the machine waking up the next.
2:16 - The shuttle is finished. After so much study and so much work, the project is complete. The machine steps back to give it a final once-over. Above, the clouds flash with thunder, just as they did on the night before the woman passed on.
2:40 - The machine has very little power left. With what remains, it struggles to climb aboard the shuttle and strap itself in. With only one shot, it can only hope that it all works. After doing a check of all the systems, it initiates the countdown and begins to launch the ship.
3:07 - The shuttle is off and into the sky. It clips part of the dilapidated building, causing damage to the thrusters. The machine can't afford to care; it just needs to complete its goal. The shuttle hits the clouds. We get an outside shot of the ship as lightning arcs all around it. The interior of the ship is shaking, as if its barely holding together. The machine grips the ends of its chair.
3:34 - We're in the hospital room. We see the woman in her bed; pale, thinner, having departed this world. For the first time outside of the photo, we see the man's face, and he's beginning to grieve. In the ship, we see a delicate hand come over the machine's own hard, metallic hand. The machine turns its head to see the woman sitting beside him, smiling. We see the machine's face, its eyes fixed in a vague expression; happiness, grief, it's hard to say. Their heads turn toward the window of the shuttle, toward the clouds.
4:01 - The shuttle breaks through the clouds and into the atmosphere. The machine can finally see the stars. As the cockpit of the ship begins to flash red, screens across the dash displaying combustion warnings and alerts for imminent destruction, the machine - having accepted what's coming - scans the skies one last time. In the final moments of the song, he finds the constellation the woman deemed her own and admires it the way the man never got to, right before the shuttle explodes, killing him.
There are details I don't want to give away, but I just want to say thanks for making music that inspires me to make stories like this. It's a part of a larger story I intend to share with my players in a TTRPG campaign some time in the future, but apart from that, this is just a very good song, and you're a very good band. Thanks again. Sorry if the story is bad, lmao.
Awesome story:)
After the first two Witness singles, I’m really excited for this to drop. Never stop making music, guys. You are artists of great impact.
I keep coming back to this over and over. Good lord, it's so good. So perfect. The combination of melody and technical prowess and that bridge.... THAT BRIDGE. Good God, man. So good. Thank you.
VOLA to prog metal is as Lord Huron is to folk: not enough know about them in their respective genres.
Love this music.
Please stop being so amazing. It makes me want to cry.
Simply one of the very best bands not only of the 21st century but of all time!
2:40 pure bliss
And VOLA continues to raise the expectations! Witness will be... fantastic! Cannot imagine any other outcome!
Asger might have possibly one of the most beautiful singing voices in modern rock/metal.
Pure perfection.
VOLA. Thanks for this song. Thanks for this album.
I discovered you guys very recently and cannot stop listening to all of your songs. But this song is simply something else, and brings me a little of peacefulness and joy in this very bad year I'm having. I haven't even watched the whole video yet because I literally start crying at some point. Just for the beauty of the music.
Not only my favorite song of the year, but also THE song that makes me feel good in these dark times for me. Thank you again. And I hope to see you one day!
I love this band, it makes me reflect a lot and it’s sentimental in a way. Totally one of the greatest
I just discovered VOLA today. Absolutely hooked on this band. Great niche to fill stylewise. I love days like this when I discover a special band.
I love being in this moment, when I have already heard the song (like, 15 times today so far), but the music video is yet to be revealed.
Vola and Erra releasing new songs on the same day? Absolute blessing
Seen Vola support Devin Townsend in Glasgow and became hooked. Love this band and seeing them again in November in Glasgow
drumming on this song is absolutely ascended
Whoever produced this album is a genius and needs to be protected at all costs.
15 seconds in, already awesome... instant like
Vola deserve to be giants!
I’m crying. VOLA you seriously make the greatest music, and we all appreciate your art and hard work on this beautiful heavy music!
Seriously though...why am I in tears?
THE FIRST TASTE WAS ENTER - INMAZES - CONTROLABLE- ALL THE SONGS HAVE THAT SPECIAL TOUCH
This is a beast of a song. Buying this album ASAP. And the drumming what a character. Adds such an airy element to the percussion that really carries this song over.
Genious!!! I'm out of my shoes right now... Great discovery
I've listened to this song countless times over the last couple of days... I'm still being blown away by it.
...Personal note...going through a bit of a rough patch in my life right now, and this is giving me so much joy, so I'm thankful for that! I'm loving these guys and I'm so glad I took the time to check them out! Looking forward to everything they do in the future!
The despair and loneliness of Ruby Pool with the hope and light of the end of Inmazes combine to make something new entirely. This is incredible.
The tags in the description are hilarious. Also, the drumming in this song is just incredible.
OK, well that's just stunning. You've got yourselves a new fan here.
Happy to hear that:)
My heart jumped when I saw the notification circle for the VOLA channel only to be teased to wait two days :'''[
Same.
Now is the time to return my friends
@@jordanjamesmusic7631 That build up to a space flight of emotion in a way only VOLA can deliver .
"Gutter Moon" is my favorite track on "Inmazes" and as it turns out this right here has to be "Gutter Moon 2.0" vibe-wise. So looking forward to the new album guys!!
The feels. Just all the feels ❤ So pumped for this album
Once in a while a Classic song comes along, VOLA has Arrived with this Masterpiece,
Listening 24-7
Stay Safe People
March 2021
The keyboard work here is amazing . It just fits so perfectly without being an overpowering element .
WOW WHAT!? I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!
The tastiest drums I've heard in a while. Another great song, can't wait for the album.
I m glad i didnt skip the ad
Damn, Spotify just randomly recommended me this band and I can't believe how amazing the songs are. So much melody in them, plus synths and guitars, love it. Sounds like they already toured in the USA last year, hope they come again in 2025! One more fan waiting for you in Austin!
Bro, like, how u gonna make a song that mixes Applause from a Distant Crowd, Homesick Machinery, and Inmazes.
I loved it.
Whether it's this version, Martin's stellar piano arrangement, or the recent remix by Artsiom Urban... for me personally this is the most beautiful song you guys have written.
On a personal note, 24 Light-Years is one of my 'lockdown songs', as I'm sure it is for many others. It's a very melancholy song, very resigned. I'm assuming that the '24 foot steps obtained' refers to a group of 12 close people, that at the time were very far away.
But contained within its first verse and chorus contains the hope of returning not just to being social again, but to be how I *know* I was before all of this. I don't like preferring solitude, choosing to distance myself from my loved ones and opportunities. I don't want that to be me. But I am, currently, and this song has helped me to come to terms with that, and reminds me that where I am now does not define where I'm going. Because I want more for me than what I am giving myself.
It builds and builds, going from a somber melancolic sound to this HUGE prog sound!
The wait for the upcoming record just got easier and harder at the same time.
Gorgeous, emotional song. The drummer blew my mind on this one
Today is my birthday. Have been trying to move from my house since last year, but something seems to keep me here. Too many past echo's and memories. This is the perfect song this morning from a perfect band. Thank you!
Wow. I really like this single. Especially drums and riff. Thanks VOLA. You made my day. Can't wait the album....
These new Vola singles are amazing!
Love It! Deeper and atmosferic. Amazing work on The drum and synth
I'm so freakin hyped for the new album
What a sleeper band. I am really starting to get into them and love the vibe that they have. I think after this album they’re going to start getting more recognition. They deserve it.
Kinda similar to Alien Shivers with its dreamy tone. Great vocals, drumming, guitar and synthwork. In any case, no one's gonna be complaining for sure 😁
This one has been stuck in my head for days now.
By far my favorite band for the last 2 years.
Thank you for everything, fellaz
If the singles keep coming at this pace we’ll have the full album by the end of April😜😂
Hyped once again guys🤘🏻🤘🏻
Man once the bridge hits it's just beautiful. Grinning from ear to ear. It's touching and triumphant all at once.
